Emma Leigh Barker -- Found Deceased 3/18/09

Emma Barker ~ It's Been A Year ~ March 18, 2009 - March 18, 2010

by LCoastMom | March 18, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Last year at this time Stacey Barker had just celebrated her 24th Birthday. She had a full time job, a love of parties and a new man in her life. Unlike many young people her age, Stacey didn't live her life in FaceBook or MySpace - although she had an account, she seemed to use it sparingly. There were party pictures and photo's of Stacey, that would have made a nice portfolio. Count down messages to Brandon, regarding a Nascar weekend, the occasional; 'we should get together, soon' from old friends and 'Hi! How are you?' from potential new friends. Nothing that made Barker's MySpace account any different from thousands of other young girls who lived with their parents, while deciding what to do with the rest of their life.

Except for Emma, Barkers 18 month old daughter. Absolutely beautiful, the apple of her grandpa's eye and keeper of her uncle's heart. Emma had captured the whole family when she came into their lives on Sept 2, 2007. Every morning, Barker got up early and headed to work. Her mother, Sue worked the 3rd shift and her brother Nick, a full time college student arranged their schedules so Emma didn't go to day care. The happy toddler spent her day surrounded by those who loved her most.

Last March 17, the party-mama stayed out celebrating St. Paddy's Day at a local watering hole, with her boyfriend, Brendon, until the wee hours of the morn - March 18. Once she made it home, her head barely had time to hit the pillow before it was time to get up for another day at the office. When Stacey returned from work that afternoon, she fed Emma a Lunchable, for an early supper - while she and her mother had words about the late hours Barker had been keeping. Sue told her daughter, everyone was willingly making sacrifices for Emma except for her, she was no longer willing to keep Emma - so Stacey could run around half the night - Emma needed her mother. Not happy about her mother's decision, Barker told her brother Nick, she was going to take advantage of the nice weather and take Emma to the Lancaster Park, she put her daughter in her car seat and they headed out.

Almost eight hours would go by before she was heard from again. Barker's brother Nick, had spent part of the evening on his computer, messaging back and forth with a girl friend, who teased him about the pictures from his 21st Birthday Party. At 10:30 PM, Nick got an urgent message from his sister, calling from the Avenue S Park 'n Ride in Palmdale - saying she needed him. A second call went to the new man in her life, Brendon. They both showed up, finding Barker alone, half dressed, with bruises on her head and ribs, and appearing to be half - unconscious. Nick placed the 911 call, to report his 18 month old niece missing and an attack on his sister.

Post by Guest on Wed Mar 31, 2010 5:42 pm

I remember this precious little baby, and wondering if it was a "copy cat" of a young single mom who "related" to KC - but after everything that came out - I don't think that Emma's mother thought anything about kc while she did what she did - yes, there are many similarities between caylee's momma and Emma's momma, but there could be similarities drawn between virtually every murder. What have we done as a society by raising young mothers who murder their precious little babies??
The poem in the link you provided Snaz was so touching... how many little boys and girls can claim that poem as their life story?? TOO MANY....

Here's the poem tish referenced:

This was written by Emma's friend Tiffany Diamond:

I wrote a little poem, I hope you like it...DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR

TO ALL MY NEW FRIENDS, DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, I NO LONGER LIVE IN FEAR....

I AM NO LONGER IN FEAR OR PAIN, I AM HAPPY AND FREE THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE, SO DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, NO LONGER LIVING IN FEAR....

I DON'T BLAME THAT WOMAN, FOR I REALIZE SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO HEART OR SOULS, SO PLEASE DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, NO LONGER LIVING IN FEAR....

IT IS VERY PRETTY HERE, THE ANGELS ARE ALL AROUND, THE PEOPLE ARE SO GENTLE, PATIENT AND KIND, THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO BE, SO DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, NO LONGER LIVING IN FEAR....

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SAID OR DID, TO BE HERE AND NOT THERE, BUT THAT DOES NOT MATTER, FOR I AM NO LONGER IN PAIN OR FEAR... SO DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR...

THANK YOU TO ALL MY NEW FRIENDS, WHO CAME TO MY DEFENSE, YOU ARE LIKE THE ANGELS ALL AROUND ME, YOU ARE MY GUARDIAN FENCE, SO PLEASE DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, NO LONGER LIVING IN FEAR....

IT IS SO PRETTY HERE, NO MORE NEED FOR FEAR, I EVEN HAVE A FRIEND, WHO IS A LOT LIKE ME "HEY, CAYLEE COME HERE..." I JUST WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW DON'T CRY FOR ME, DON'T SHED A TEAR, I AM OK, NO LONGER IN FEAR...

I REALLY LIKE ALL THE WORK YOU ARE DOING TO KEEP MY MEMORY ALIVE, I JUST WISH THAT LADY LOVED ME, IN THE WAY ALL YOU DO, MAYBE THEN I WOULD BE THERE....IF SHE JUST GAVE ME A CHANCE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAY I AM SORRY MOMMY, I WILL BE GOOD NEXT TIME, I WON'T BE LOUD OR GET IN THE WAY, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A HUG AND SAY I LOVE YOU MOMMY

BUT SADLY THAT WILL NEVER BE, BUT I AM OK, I AM NO LONGER IN PAIN, NO LONGER LIVING IN FEAR......

EMMA

What a sad story, she had so many that loved her. Another innocent life taken at the hands of her mother. Yes, the poem is fitting for too many little ones. Sad

This article is from back in May, but newer than the other reports already posted. I am still looking for newer updates. This case seems to have been dropped by the media..... does anyone know anything about what has happened in the last few months? I did a search, but was unable to find anything newer than what is already posted.
This is another one of those cases that just breaks my heart.
Sad

An Elegy for Emma Leigh Barker

by Dr Robert Brignall in Crime, May 2, 2009

The truth is a rare commodity in this case of apparent infanticide.

On March 20, 2009, the dead body of a child was discovered in Sylmar, California, in tall grass near Interstate 5, also known as the Golden State Freeway. Investigators from the LA County Sheriff’s Department located the body with help from its mother, who had placed it there. Emma Leigh Barker had been all of 18 months old.

Now the mother, Stacey Barker, sits behind bars in lieu of a million dollars bail, charged with murder, assault on a child causing death, and child abuse. Emma Leigh showed no outward signs of trauma, and the autopsy results are being kept under wraps at the request of investigators. Yet the salient question is not how the tot was killed but why.

The Mother’s Kidnapping Story Quickly Falls Apart

Stacey Barker, a single mother in her early twenties, first spun a tale vaguely reminiscent of the Susan Smith case, except that Barker’s story had a shorter life span. According to Richard Winter of the LA Times, the Antelope Valley woman initially told investigators that on March 18, she and her child had spent that afternoon in Lancaster Park. As she was putting Emma in her car seat, Stacey claimed, she was struck from behind by an unseen assailant, knocking her unconscious. She came to at about 10:30 PM at a Palmdale parking lot miles from the park, ‘partially clothed,’ and her child was missing.

It is true that Stacey called her brother, who in turn called the Palmdale branch of the LA County Sheriff’s department at 11 PM. Stacey was treated at a hospital for some kind of head trauma. Then she was interviewed by investigators.

It is a common police interrogation practice to have a witness repeat his or her story, and Stacey’s tale folded under scrutiny. “Within a few hours, several inconsistencies developed,” said Lt. Pat Nelson. “After her third or fourth version of the events, we knew she wasn’t telling the truth, and we were able to determine what happened.” Stacey recanted the kidnapping story, admitted she was responsible for the girl’s death, but claimed it was an ’accident,’ and that thereafter she panicked, said investigator Sgt. Diane Hecht. Stacey then helped investigators locate the body.

There has been very little main stream media coverage on this case lately.

Katfish of Katfish Ponders has an excellent article posted a few days ago.

LCoastMom, a member here, and she was a strong supporter of "Justice for precious Emma Thompson," wrote an update regarding the Stacy Barker trial as a guest on Katfish Ponders.

Stacy Barker's trial should start soon; perhaps in May, 2011. It has been over 2 years since little 18 month old Emma Barker was murdered and I think it is past due for Stacy Barker's trial.

Per info on Katfish Ponders web site, LCoastMom and others will be attending some of Stacy Barker's trial which is in California of course. LCoastMom will be writing, as a guest on Katfish Ponders, info during the trial for the days she attends if I understand it correctly.

I am looking forward to LCoastMom's (and others) articles "live" from the Court House during Stacy's trial!

LCoastMom, I will never forget the comments you made on various media websites in Texas to show your support for justice for Emma Thompson! You are awesome!

I will post the Links, here at RC, to a few of the recent articles at Katfish Ponders.

Stacy Barker Murder Trial Set To Get Under Way? Will it be April or Will It Be May?

Stacey Barker is a 26 year old Quartz Hills, CA woman accused of killing her 18 month old daughter 2 years ago. During this time, friends of Katfish....Ponders have been attending the pretrial hearings and sharing what they see and hear. Once again I want to thank these caring women Toria, Ange, Tiffany Diamond, ANurse, and LeftCoastMom for taking time out of their busy lives to attend the hearings.

Anyone who has been following this case will understand the reason I wrote the title to this post as a question, there has been a lot of delays...trial dates set and postponed, failed plea deal negotiations, and more, more, more delays. I'm to the point that I won't believe this trial is happening until I know that a jury has been seated. What I want to do in this post is update you on some recent hearings and what we do know about the (alleged) upcoming trial. :)

Stacy Barker- It's Time To get This Trial Under Way- Guest Entry By LCoastMom

LCoastMom (LCM) is a friend of katfishponders and I'm pleased she has allowed me to bring this post here to share. LCM isn't from the Antelope Valley (AV), but she has made a point to attend a couple pre-trial hearings in this case and has plans to attend some of Stacey Barker's murder trial...whenever / wherever it finally starts. Look for future posts from LCoastMom here at Katfish...ponders once the trial starts. Tori and I will still be doing our collaboration too....between us we should have pretty good coverage. Check back for updates and trial coverage!

Emma, only 18 months old when she died, had just one Easter celebration. If she lived, Emma would now be 3 1/2. Old enough to go to church, if her family so wanted - in a cute new dress, with a bonnet, ruffled socks, little purse and matching shoes - old enough to have an Easter Egg Hunt - an Easter Basket with a chocolate bunny that would have melted into a fine mess and maybe a new stuffed toy to snuggle at night.

Post by LCoastMom on Tue Apr 26, 2011 5:56 pm

Snaz and Ann - Thank you - I didn't realize Emma had a thread here or I would have kept it up dated. Like our little angel Emma Thompson - Emma Leigh Barker just touched something in my heart - I have not been able to leave this case alone.

As a poster up thread wrote this case has many similarities to Caylee Marie Anthony, minus the public displays and the drama. A mother who lived with her parents and preferred parties and boys to child care, a disagreement over babysitting duties and a boyfriend who wasn't looking to settle down.

One of the odd quirks here was that before Emma's death, Stacey Barker (SB) was heard saying people shouldn't judge Casey Anthony without all the facts! Another is an inmate SB befriended - now known as Witness X, he will be sharing what she told him regarding Emma's murder.

DDA S Kelly Cromer has been a fierce warrior for our precious Emma Leigh. Twice PD Roberto Dager has requested a plea deal that would amount to minimal jail time for SB and twice Ms Cromer has declined. We who have taken this walk seeking Justice For Emma are beyond thrilled that the trial is starting soon.

Hi, LCoastMom!

I had to hunt for this thread. Because there has been no recent activity on this thread, it was not on the front page of Missing/Murdered.

I am so happy to hear that DDA S Kelly Cromer has been a fierce warrior for precious Emma Leigh Barker.

I think it is wonderful that you and others will be able to attend some or all of Stacy's trial. If I lived in the area, I would definitely attend the trial in support of justice for precious little Emma!

I am really looking forward to the articles you and Katfish will write regarding the trial proceedings. It is now my understanding that Toria (I think I have the name correct) will be attending the trial also and provide Katfish info since she does not like to write articles.

LCoastMom, thank you, Toria, and others (?), who will attend the trial, so very much for sharing info with those who are following this case!

Thanks for the beautiful picture of little Emma! What a beautiful child!

Hi, Julie!

You are welcome regarding the updates about this trial being attended by some from California and Katfish of Katfish Ponders web site (KP) covering this trial.

As articles are posted, during the trial, I will post the Link back to KP here if LCoastMom won't have time to do so. It is tough to attend a trial all day and especially if there is a long commute time to and from the Court House.

I wish InSesson (Tru-TV) would cover at least part of this trial.

Ann, have you used the search button on the top right of the page? I've used it many times when I've seen an article or update on a case but no one has posted on the thread in a long time. Sad that there's too many to fit on one page....... Sad

LOL, thanks Mama.....but I'm sure credit goes to J4A who probably set up that search button!! He's the smart one.

After reading more, it appears Stacey drove around with a deceased Emma Leigh in her car for hours. And, the night before her funeral it was more of a party that included beer pong. That is so distasteful considering they were going to be burying a baby the next day.

Julie and Piper, you're welcome! We'll try to post here or link back to KFP's.

Ann - Toria, Ange and TD have been to most of the hearings, ANurse has been to many too. It was like seeing old friends when I went to my first hearing and lunch with these ladies last fall - we went to the cemetery and visited lil Emma and spent the whole afternoon visiting there. It was a very emotional day. I made it back again in March, just before I left CA.

For the trial I'm planning on spending a few nights in Lancaster. It's 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way from my daughter's home and 10 hours from mine. So depending on how it works out I may break it up and spend a few nights with my DD and a few nights in Lancaster (not sure if I can stand being so close to my DGBaby and not spending some time with her too!)

This whole case has very much mirrored the events in Orlando, right down to "secret government agents" (NOT!) and a defense attorney who has tried to suppress everything, withheld possible witness statements and fought with the DA over everything, while keeping his client in Co lock-up for as long as possible - SB is now facing 25 years to Life in prison!

Tori was going to the Courthouse this morning - I'll pop back by later and let you know if the trial started or not....

I wonder why the media such as TV stations and newspapers in the area are not covering this trial. I think the case of the death of little Emma is newsworthy. Very strange!

The jury was seated by late Tuesday - opening statements this morning - followed by photos of Emma where SB left her lying in the weeds along Roxford Street & El Dorado Ave in Sylmar, this included a close up of Emma's face - after the DA made the decision not to show the jury autopsy photos.

SB's mother Sue Barker was on the stand the rest of the day - tomorrow she will be back for cross.

It was an emotional and exhausting day for Tori and the girls - I'll supply more details as they become available.

The AV Press has been covering the story (at least through Monday 4/25) it is a subscription only site at $6.25/week for 52 weeks - I refuse to pay for it! One of the local LA stations (CBS?) was planning on being there for trial, not sure what became of that.

You're so right, makes no sense that there has been no coverage - the press literally disappeared after Emma's funeral - they reappeared when SB was arrested then when back to their hidey-holes.

Thanks for checking in Ann!

That's exactly what I thought Piper - Ms Cromer went straight for the jugular.

Tori said she and the girls were crying in court, SB as usual just sat there. I know defendants are told to control their emotions in front of the jury, but how does a mother sit there while pictures of her lifeless, precious baby are displayed? Stone cold...

Re: Emma Leigh Barker -- Found Deceased 3/18/09

Post by LCoastMom on Fri Apr 29, 2011 11:03 am

I believe it was during opening statements that it was revealed that Emma had not a double dose of Dimetapp, but a triple dose in her system when she died. Ms Cromer said she believes that Emma was in the way of Stacey's social life and that is basically the reason she was mudered.

PD Dager said that Stacey lied and made up the cockamamie story out of fear of being seen as a bad mother and because she lived under her own controlling mother, after Emma died accidentally while Stacey played peek-a-boo with her (with a plastic baggie) not a murder, but a mistake!

Sue Barker spent Wednesday afternoon and Thursday on the stand, first answering the questions presented by DDA Kelly Cromer and later by Roberto Dager, under cross.

Mrs Barker admitted to Ms Cromer that she didn't want to testify against her daughter, but the reasons had little to nothing to do with Stacey herself. Mrs Barker has only seen her daughter one time in the last two years and only spoken to her on the phone one time. Ms Cromer asked if she didn't want to see Stacey - she replied of course I do, but I'm still angry with her. Tori and ANurse both pointed out that the only time Sue Barker looked in Stacey's direction was when she was asked if she was here in the Courtroom. In a day and a half of testimony Sue looked at Mr Dager, Ms Cromer and Judge Zackey - never once stealing a glance at her only daughter.

Ms Cromer presented Mrs Barker with the cookbook Blender Baby Food - she identified it as being the one Stacey used to make fresh baby food for Emma. Ms Cromer asked if she had handed the book over to investigators and if she did, where she found the book. She said she had given them the book and she had found it in Emma's bedroom.... (Odd place to be making baby food). Ms Cromer then walked over to the jury and pointed out that the book (a large paperback) appears to be brand new, with pristine pages that were still stuck together.

During Wednesday's testimony Ms Cromer asked Sue Barker if she had a fight with Stacey on March 18 prior to her leaving with Emma. Mrs Barker tried to down play the events of the afternoon and often had trouble remembering what had transpired.

Ms Cromer finally asked Mrs Barker what she did with Emma that afternoon and if she had fed her before Stacey left to take her to the park and if yes, what she had given her. Mrs Barker said they had been watching TV together, and she fed Emma a baby lunchable with meat, cheese and crackers. Ms Cromer followed with did you purchase the lunchable and if you did, where did you buy it. She replied that she had bought it, it came from Stater Bros. Ms Cromer then pointed out that Mrs Barker's memory is very good except where Stacey is concerned.

On Thursday when she was asked again if she remembered what the fight was about she conceded that it was a one time event due to Stacey not being home from work at the agreed upon hour. Ms Cromer had her read the transcript of the conversation she had with Det Nava - where she claimed they had been arguing frequently about the late nights and running around while the family cared for Emma.

Day 1 and 2 part two -

As the second day of testimony progressed Ms Cromer discussed Sue's interview with LE - Sue claimed she didn't know she was being recorded (didn't she see the tape recorder with mic in plan view on the table? she doesn't remember). One detail of the fight was that Sue told SB that she wanted her to move out, that she was done babysitting Emma so SB could run around and party. SB's response to this was that she couldn't please anyone, work, her mother, her boyfriend and Emma was always crying! Sue told detectives that she believed Stacey had committed the murder, she believed it was conspired between SB and BB and she thought SB went towards Long Beach with the plan on pinning the murder on Emma's daddy Anthony, Sue told Det Nava she wanted her to prove it!

As it turned out SB was not able to find out where Anthony was living, so she turned the car around in Lawndale. The story SB told LE of going to find Anthony to get money from him for an apartment was just that, Sue told the officers that SB had plenty of money including her $5,000 tax refund.

Sue told the court that she started locking her bedroom door when she slept because she was afraid that SB would murder her the same way she did Emma. SB went to stay at her grandfather's house before the funeral, she was still there in late April when LE showed up and took her into custody.

Ms Cromer asked about Stacey's behavior with boyfriends - apparently she falls fast and hard. She transforms herself into whatever she thinks the boy wants her to be. One example of this was in regards to a Hispanic boy Stacey dated - she dyed her hair black, shaved her eyebrows, drawing them back on and went to the tanning beds 5 times a week!

After meeting Witness X on the bus ride to the Courthouse SB fell into old habits, writing him 24 letters in just 1 month! SB wrote "romantic" stories, AKA porn. She told him how much she loved his tattoos and how she wanted to get some herself. She also told him she practiced telling her version of the crime, out loud in her jail cell and asked him to help her make up a better story that fit the known facts of the case!!! It should be pointed out that Witness X originally thought SB was wrongly accused but after talking with her on the bus for sometime he discovered the truth, from SB's own mouth. According to Witness X Emma was deceased before she ever left Lancaster that afternoon!

The dump scene photos of precious Emma attest to SB driving around for hours (5 to 6) with her body in the backseat of the car. Emma was in full rigor when SB took her out of the car seat and left her in 3 feet of weeds right off the Golden State FWY. (Ms Cromer said she left her there - not so someone would find the baby but so animals would get to her and destroy the evidence.)

As I mentioned previously SB has not shed tear one for her precious baby - her mother claims SB has always been a tomboy and has only cried ten times in her life!

The second witness was one of the LEOs who had seen SB at the PnR and followed her to the hospital because she claimed she had been attacked. She was found disrobed with one of her shoes in the back seat of the car and the other in the front. When asked what he observed about SB the thing that stood out was her clean manicured feet and hands - with no broken nails that one would expect to see after a vicious attack. (Ave S PnR is located yards from Lake Palmdale - right off the freeway - while it is paved it is also a dusty parking lot.)

He said SB never asked about the search for Emma, never even mentioned her name. She just complained about her aching head.

Something else that Ms Cromer brought up in opening was the "flurry of text messages" While driving to Lawndale and other parts yet unknown to us - SB was in frequent contact with BB - texting him that she and Emma were playing together at the park. In reality Emma was already deceased.

Next up - Brendan!

Many thanks to our friend Tori who after sitting in court all day was still up on the phone with me at 1130 last night. I wasn't taking notes so I hope I got this all right - we'll be talking again this weekend to get Friday's scoop - I'm sure it will be interesting...

Re: Emma Leigh Barker -- Found Deceased 3/18/09

Post by LCoastMom on Fri Apr 29, 2011 12:48 pm

Hi Julie we've only scratched the surface. One big difference is Sue Barker does not appear to be controlling in the least, but rather appears to be being controlled.

The reason she didn't want to testify is (she said) her husband will leave her if Stacey is convicted - the family blames her for being honest and candid with LE. She said SB had always been daddy's girl and she was usurped by Emma.

On cross Dager 'asked' her if she is an alcoholic and if she is on anti depressants. She admitted to both. He asked what she drinks and she said Cuervo Gold. Prior to Emma's death she would drink several shots up to a few times a week - now she drinks daily up to a fifth in an evening! Dager asked if she mixes alcohol with her medication and she admits she does - he replied "Don't you know that can kill you?"

Cromer asked why she is drinking, Sue replied she feels guilty for Emma's death.

IMO Sue Barker is one of the folks the DT threw under the bus. It's not SB's fault she made this mistake, in part it's due to her controlling mother. The woman who took care of Emma and worked the overnight shift so Emma didn't have to go to daycare. Sad

Poor woman - at this point, she and SB's brother Nick, are the two I feel sorry for out of this whole mess.

How on earth were you able to remember all that! I'm amazed! Cool

To Tori and ANurse sucker

This is one cold hearted girl. I don't think her crying only 10 times in her life has anything to do with being a tomboy, she's a sociapath. Sounds as if she was always center stage. What is so interesting to me is how she (and Casey Anthony) would jump over the moon for the love and attention of a boy, but have the darkest of hearts to be able to murder her own flesh and blood because she was interfering in her life. With no emotion, no remorse.

I feel sorry for Sue Barker as well. Her pain, misery and anger will cause her to drink herself to death. Apparently, there were many fights between Sue and Stacey over her being an irresponsible parent. There is nothing wrong with trying to get your daughter to straighten up. Never in a million years did this mother think Stacey would go that far to rid herself of the "problem". I believe Cindy Anthony feels the same way, IMO. I give Sue a lot of credit for being honest and candid and being able to say in court "I'm still angry at her"...it would be very difficult to accept the fact that your daughter murdered your grandchild in cold blood, but she has accepted the cold hard truth. Has the husband been in court?

Thank you so much for all of the updates, LCoastMom! I'm looking forward to your next report!

Hi, LCoastMom!

Thank you for your excellent report and special thanks to Tori for her awesome detailed info about the testimony. She takes very good notes.

The similarities between Stacey and Casey Anthony are remarkable. It sounds like Stacey is a sociopath. I think she has ice running through her veins. I can not believe that the sight of Emma's pics did not bring Stacey to tears. She must have ice running through her veins.

LCoastMom, when the first pic of Emma Thompson was shown during Abigail Young's trial in Houston, Young had an emotional outburst. All of the Emergency Room pics and autopsy pics were horrific. The Judge had to remove the jury until Young could regain her composure. In spite of Young's many lies, at least she showed some emotion when the pics were introduced into evidence.

Stacey must have been detached emotionally from precious little Emma. I can not believe she did not break down and cry. What a cold hearted bitc$!

She is like Casey. She will do whatever to "fit" right in with her latest boyfriend. I wonder if she had several groups of friends like Casey.

I hope Stacey, this cold hearted baby killer, is found guilty and sentenced to the maximum allowed by law.

I do feel sorry for Stacey's mother. It sounds like she was a wonderful grandmother. She even arranged her work schedule so little Emma would not have to go to daycare.

LCoastMom, thank you and Tori for sharing the trial testimony with us. I looked for main stream articles about the trial yesterday and could not find any! Your report is more detailed than a reporter's could ever be!

I look forward to your next report, LCM! Many thanks to you, Tori, whoever else will be attending the trial and Katfish.

If it was not for all of you, we would not know about the efforts of the State of California vs Stacey Barker . . .

This is what Tori wrote about her thoughts on Sue Barker:

I felt so sorry for her I could feel her pain and she looked like she was in a daze...this has taken a toll on her, Ange (Tori's daughter) commented that she felt like she just wanted to hug her and tell her it was NOT her fault, that she felt heartsick for this woman she did not know...a Husband that would leave her in her greatest pain for thoughts and words she said about her Daughter, A Daughter that had killed her only Grandchild, she is in great fear of losing her husband now...how sad she loses a Granddaughter, A Daughter and if SB is convicted because of her testimony she would also lose her Husband, because SB is a Daddy's girl and always has been..

Julie I didn't know how to work what we had observed or Sue Barker's emotional state into the very long day of testimony. Thank you for understanding.

I agree with all of your thoughts on SB. She is heartless - she destroyed the best thing she had ever done with her life and several other families as well.

Lancaster is a small but growing community. Our friends run into the Barker's in town and that has effected how we view certain members of the family. I have sympathy for all of them, as I could not imagine being in their shoes - but at this point I've seen and heard enough that aside from Emma, the majority of my sympathy goes to Emma's paternal family members, Sue and Nick.

During one of the last pretrial hearings, PD Dager remarked that he had a witness who he had not been able to locate. We know the attorneys are making a point when they drop these comments - on Thursday his reason was revealed when he saw Emma's paternal Gma in the gallery. He immediately called her out as a witness. She had to spend the day out of the Courtroom. (And yes he had her contact information the whole time!)

On Friday, she and Emma's daddy, Anthony took the stand. Out of respect for their wishes we are not referring to them by their last name.

A little background, Anthony and SB worked together at Country Wide (now BofA). They began dating shortly after SB started working there and she became pregnant with Emma rather quickly. Their ''relationship'' didn't last long and at some point during the pregnancy SB told him the baby wasn't his. After Emma was born SB did everything in her power to prevent Anthony and his family from having a relationship with Emma - most of his family didn't even meet Emma until her first Birthday.

According to a former friend, SB told Anthony he could only be in Emma's life if they were together. While we know the law was on his side, Anthony was dealing with substance abuse issues at the time. He now deals with the guilt of not doing enough while Emma was alive and it has all but destroyed him.

As Tori said, it was obvious that he is still kicking himself for not taking control of the situation and demanding visitation with Emma through the Courts sooner. Under questioning he said had the paperwork filled out and was waiting on his tax return to file the papers but he never got to do that because she was taken away from him forever!

OK I'll finish this after speaking with Tori, sometime this weekend.

Hi, LCoastMom!

Thank you for the update and special thanks to Tori and Ange for sharing their observations.

Stacey Barker not only took Emma from those who loved her, it seems she destroyed many family members in the process.

The Defense attorney seems like a bottom feeder to me.

Yep Ann, we agree, we call him Snidely Whiplash - this is the same Defense attorney who called us out in court; PD Dager motioned to the ladies with a nod of his head and called them: "These DUMB, STUPID, IDIOTIC, MORONIC PEOPLE. Blog on things they don't know or things they think they know. In an effort to turn people or potential jurors against my client."

http://my.nowpublic.com/world/public-defender-emma-barker-murder-trial-calls-women-morons

In reality we've been more than fair to his client and only stated things as our opinion or stated claims have been made by certain people.

I think what has really bothered him is we have been right over and over (or damn close to it), based on what had been revealed in court. We've also kept our months shut about plenty of things that have been overheard or even stated by people who are now on the witness list.

While I admire his passion for his job, even if it means sitting next to murderers; but IMO no one has the right to tear down victims in pubic and that seems to be his MO. Like Bozo in Orlando - there is just no defense for a murdered baby.

To LCoastMom Today at 1:55 pm:
~~~
LCoastMom, I read the article you wrote. The Link you provided in your 1:55 p.m. comment.
Excellent article! I was going to leave a comment to show my support for your efforts but at the bottom, it indicated that the article was over 3 months old and the comments were closed!
Sad
You, ToriA, ANurse, Katfish and others are awesome in your support for justice for precious little Emma Barker!
What a scumbag attorney to make those comments in open court about the ladies seeking justice for Emma! I bet that made all of you more determined than ever. It sounds like he does not want folks there to support justice for Emma. The audacity of that flea bag! It sounds like he is trying to intimidate the ladies attending the trial (and back then . . . the Hearings). Just my opinion!
Do you have a picture of him? A link to a pic of him?
Once again, thanks LCM for sharing the info about this trial with us. There is no main stream media trial coverage and we would have no idea that this case is currently in trial.
I think it is disgusting that the local CA media is not covering this trial. It is about justice for Emma.
If I get a chance tomorrow or the next few days, I will look up in Google archives and find some of the CA local media that covered this case as it unfolded. I am going to e-mail them and ask them why they are not covering this trial. I will also let them know that I think it is imperative that they cover this trial to bring awareness of the murder of an innocent, defenseless victim, Emma Barker.
Wasn't this case on Nancy Grace in the early days? If so, I will e-mail her and let her know about the trial of Stacey Barker. If she covered this case as it unfolded and there is no main stream media coverage now, her staff is probably unaware that Barker is currently on trial.
KABC, why are you not covering the trial of Stacey Barker? An innocent, defenseless 18 month old baby, Emma Barker, was murdered. I would think this trial would be a top story on your news every night.
This trial started April 27, 2011 and I have not seen any coverage from your station or any other CA media. I would think the murder of an 18 month old baby who was tossed on the side of the road like trash would be of great interest to your viewing audience.
KABC, please cover this trial. If this trial was in Houston, Tx, KTRK (ABC) would have a reporter at the trial everyday and have updated coverage of this important trial during all newscasts. I am an active advocate for child abuse and I think it is disgusting that CA media is not covering the horrific death of precious little Emma Barker!
Please cover this trial! It will bring awareness to child abuse and child murder! I hope you care enough to cover this trial starting Monday! Thank you, KABC.
~~~~~~

I will be sending KABC an e-mail and I will use some of the above info in my e-mail! I think it is disgusting that none of the main stream media is bringing attention to the horrific death of Emma. If it was not for LCoastMom, ToriA, ANurse, Katfish and others, we would not be aware of this trial. We would always wonder what ever happened to the State of California vs Stacey Barker and justice for precious little Emma! Sad

This is the only photo we've seen of him.... Yeah, if he thought he was going to scare this particular group of ladies away, it didn't work! tongue

Ann, a group of us at WebSleuths went on a media blitz - emailing various news sources in the early days. Most never even responded. The one bite we got was Nancy Grace. After many letters to her she dubbed SB smother mother and put Emma in the public eye for a few days. As noted in the link you read, Time Warner showed up with a camera that day - the only time since SB's first hearing. Coincidence? I doubt it.

Dager made a scene for them, calling us names, submitting a motion for a ban on media and bloggers and asking for a COV... that didn't work either!

Stacey Barker is going down, Justice for Emma Leigh is happening and we're going to be there to watch and share. Emma deserves that much.

Ann, thank you for supporting Emma!

Thank you, LCoastMom, for the pic of Stacey Barker's attorney.
What can I say? lol

Also, thank you for all of the info about your efforts (and WS) with the media? Have you all contacted the Nancy Grace Show to let her folks know that the trial has started?

I would think Nancy Grace would want to hop on this one.

Have you tried contacting Associated Press for the CA area? If they pick the story up then many media outlets will likely pick up the story.

They did an awesome job in the Emma Thompson case. The coverage beyond the Houston area was awesome. I worked the Texas media hard and it is safe to say Emma had media coverage throughout Texas and beyond. Even in Mexico!

I developed a very good relationship with many News Directors (the decision makers) and reporters in the Texas area in an effort to get Emma's name out there.

I did not have to stay on the Houston media. All Houston, Tx media (major TV stations, some Radio and the Houston Chronicle) covered Emma's story with dedication as her sad, tragic story unfolded.

Once again, thank you, Tori, ANurse in others for ensuring Emma's story is told by way of the trial and you are posting details of the trial.

I just sent an e-mail to KABC - Los Angeles, CA about covering the Stacey Barker trial. Instead of submitting my e-mail as a Question/Comment, I clicked on "News story tips." Maybe they will read it!

I included the Link to their article dated 4-18-11 about jury selection. I told them the trial started 4-27-11 and I would like to know why they thought it was newsworthy to air info about jury selection but they are not covering the trial.

I asked them to please cover the trial. I stated that the murder of 18 month old Emma and the fact that she was tossed on side of the road like trash is horrific and newsworthy.

I also stated that the coverage of this trial would bring awareness to child abuse/murder and if Stacey is found guilty, perhaps it will deter another mother from committing such a horrific crime.
