New Hope for the Aging Disease " Progeria" in Children

Post by Guest on Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:31 am

I read this morning and was really happy that science is helping explain Progeria, the aging disease in kids giving them the average lifespan of about 13.

I believe that is more than half the battle in many diseases. Thankfully this disease isnt rampant and there are only 65 known cases.

I believe progress in any area of helping children that suffer from disease is greatly needed in many areas. Progeria is especially frightful and carries such an early death sentence. My little niece, 5, suffers from mitochondrial disease. There is no cure. It's unbelievable what this child goes through. But she carries on with a laugh and a smile, children are so brave and strong. We have no idea what the future holds for her. Many people take healthy babies/children for granted. My heart goes out to the loving parents of these children. It takes the strength of a mighty soldier to make sure they get first rate medical care. The daily struggles they experience just in caregiving is phenomenal.
