Jane needs to read the reports of this story. She reported that Zahra was last seen, by anyone other than parents, on Sept. 25th. She was actually seen in the furniture store where she and her step-mom purchased a new mattress on Sept. 25th. It was not delivered till a couple days later.

Jane said why would they throw out a mattress and there is no report of it being replaced. The mattress that was taken from the Hickory home was the new mattress.

Adam Baker obviously logged into his myspace page yesterday after bonding out of jail. Profile picture is now a car, and set to private.

Zahra Baker case: Why is the mattress important?

Posted on October 27th, 2010 by Valhall

It is reported that investigators searching for missing and assumed deceased 10-year-old Zahra Baker have the mattress they were looking for at the Foothills Environmental Landfill. Apparently 4 days after they called off the search for the mattress employees at the landfill located it and investigators returned yesterday to retrieve it. The reason given by investigators for why the mattress was important, and the statements made by law enforcement since the mattress was recovered allude to needing to retrieve the mattress for DNA evidence. I’d like to look more carefully at these statements so we might be able to figure what the importance of the mattress might be.

CNN is reporting that the statement from law enforcement since the mattress was discovered was that they intend to do DNA testing to confirm the mattress is indeed Zahra’s. Okay, that makes sense and of course they have to do that. The Hickory Daily Record reports it slightly different. It states that Hickory police confrimed “This mattress possessed DNA evidence that will be tested in the future to confirm if it is involved with this investigation.” They go on to state “the nature of the evidence was not released.

Zahra Baker case: A review of yesterday’s activities

Posted on October 28th, 2010 by Valhall

In addition to landfill workers finding the mattress law enforcement believes was Zahra’s old mattress, apparently replaced for no good reason, yesterday the announcement came they had also found her prosthetic leg. While Hickory police are not yet stating it is hers, because they are waiting for confirmation of the serial number from the manufacturer, the odds that a child’s prosthetic leg would be found on the property that Elisa Baker previously lived at and NOT belong to Zahra would be something akin to astronomical.

Missing girl did not want to leave Australia
She was known for her enthusiasm and spirit despite fight with bone cancer

By Monte Mitchell | JOURNAL REPORTER
Published: October 31, 2010

This is the first of a two-part series examining the life of Zahra Baker, the Hickory girl who was first reported missing on Oct. 9 and who authorities believe is dead.

Giru, the former home of Zahra Baker, is a tiny Australian town that started as a railroad siding on the sugar line.

The Haughton River there draws people who fish for giant barramundi, and many of the houses are built on poles because of occasional flooding.

Above all, Giru is a sugar-mill town. Cane fields take over where backyards end, and the giant CSR Invicta Sugar Mill crushes 3 million tons of sugar cane each year.

The sugar mill was the reason Zahra’s family wound up in Giru, a town of less than 400 people in Queensland’s northwest edge.

She had some hard years there, fighting bone cancer first and then tumors in her lungs.

But Giru must have seemed like heaven to Zahra, compared to the hell she endured when her father brought to North Carolina to live with her new stepmother.

Millions of people in the United States and Australia have come to know 10-year-old Zahra’s freckled face and cute grin during the ongoing ordeal of her disappearance and presumed murder.

But even in the Giru years, before all this happened, Zahra was a bit of a celebrity because of the plucky spirit with which she met cancer.

Kim Wright, 44, of Giru, was sitting in a chair waiting for her head to be shaved four years ago at a cancer fundraiser when Zahra approached her. Zahra, then just 6 years old, was already a cancer survivor.

She took Wright’s hand and told her not to be scared.

That struck up a friendship.

When her health worsened, and Zahra was very sick and in a children’s hospital waiting to have her left leg amputated above the knee, she talked to Wright by telephone.

“It’s OK, because I’m going to be getting a Barbie leg so I don’t want you to be upset,” Zahra told Wright.

Full of life
A few months later in 2007, doctors found tumors in Zahra’s lungs.

Wendy Wieck, of Toowomba, in southeast Queensland, met Zahra when Zahra and Wieck’s daughter were both receiving treatment at the Royal Brisbane Children’s Hospital in 2007. Between rounds of chemotherapy, the two girls did their homework together and played.

Zahra adjusted to the loss of her lower leg.

“She was always hopping around on her crutches flat out through the ward and was always full of life, energy and always happy considering the illness she had been fighting,” Wieck said. “My husband and I used to marvel at the obvious love her dad and grandma had for her and how they had both put their lives on hold to help her with her treatments.”

Zahra’s father, Adam Baker, who is now 33, had moved to Giru in 2004 for a job at the Invicta mill, where his father and brother also got jobs. Adam’s mother, Karen Baker, looked after her granddaughter.

Adam Baker told friends that Zahra’s biological mother hadn’t been part of Zahra’s life since she was about 8 months old. Zahra was born in 2000 in Wagga Wagga, a town in New South Wales, midway between Australia’s two largest cities of Sydney and Melbourne.

The devotion showed by Adam Baker and Karen Baker in the hospital was rewarded with good news. The treatments had stopped the tumors in Zahra’s lungs. There was another price to pay, though. The treatments led to a partial hearing loss.

The community and Giru State School raised money for a wheelchair for Zahra, and for a laptop computer so she could do schoolwork from home.

Not long before she and her father left Australia to move to North Carolina with a woman he’d met online, Zahra wound up in the pages of the Townsville Bulletin. Townsville is a city of about 180,000 on the northeast coast of Australia about 35 miles from Giru.

“They don’t make them much tougher than little Zahra Baker,” reporter Jessica Johnston wrote on Sept. 22, 2008. “The eight-year-old Giru girl has overcome more challenges than most people would in a lifetime, but nothing could wipe the smile off the bubbly youngster’s face yesterday.”

The accompanying photo showed Zahra wearing a big helmet, perched on an armored vehicle of the Australian army and giving two thumbs up.

Her grandmother said Zahra’s face lit up when she saw the soldiers.

Police returning to Zahra Baker home
Investigators have evidence but no proven leads in 10-year-old's recent disappearance.

Searchers will continue looking for any clues in the disappearance of a 10-year-old Hickory girl this week. They are likely to return to the family's house, where they spent much of last week digging up the yard and sifting through piles of mulch.

Hickory Police Deputy Chief Clyde Deal said Sunday that searchers will probably return to Zahra Baker's house early today, and authorities will then decide where to focus for the rest of the week.

District Attorney Jay Gaither hasn't said if his office is preparing charges but has said he is consulting with the N.C. Attorney General's office and other prosecutors on the issue of prosecuting a murder if the victim's body isn't recovered.

"The absence of a body is not considered to be a bar to prosecution by my office," Gaither wrote recently in an e-mail.

Punishment was her routine

Monday, November 1, 2010

A vehicle drives up the hill in County Manor Estates in Hudson, where Zahra Baker's stepmother forced Zahra to walk up and down the hill as punishment. Zahra wore a prosthetic leg and walking on hills was painful. The Bakers lived in the first trailer on the left facing the hill.

HICKORY --
(Second of two parts)

MEDIA GENERAL NEWS SERVICE

Zahra Baker wanted a bicycle.

It was last spring when she lived with her father and stepmother, Adam and Elisa Baker, in Country Manor Estates, a trailer park in Hudson, a community in Caldwell County.

Neighbor Renee Bobbitt liked to watch her grandson and the other children play outside.

Zahra, the 10-year-old girl with the Australian accent, joined right in despite the prosthetic leg she used after her left leg was amputated above the knee due to bone cancer.

“You’d see her on the one good leg, and she’d hop as fast as they could run,” Bobbitt said.

But Elisa Baker, who the neighbors knew as Lisa, didn’t think Zahra had made enough progress on her prosthetic to deserve a bicycle.

“She told her the only way she’d get a bicycle is if she learned to run,” Bobbitt said.

The Bakers’ rented single-wide trailer was on a sloped road that ends in a cul-de-sac.
The cul-de-sac is a place where everybody knows what’s going on. Trailers are close, and people peer outside their curtains if a strange car drives in. People step outside to smoke and talk and watch the kids play.

Neighbors saw Lisa repeatedly making Zahra run up and down that hill. Sometimes it seemed to be for therapy; sometimes it was for punishment.

“I’ve seen her smack her a couple of times and (be) all up in her face because she wasn’t running,” Bobbitt said.

FYI...................

If you Google "Zahra Baker found"

don't click on the link for Jabber Lounge, it takes you to a site called topstuffmaster, that tries to do a security analysis on your computer.

If you end up on one of these do a Task Manager, which is your Control, Alt & Del keys at the same time.

This is absolutely disgusting. What kind of father would allow a stepmother to treat his child this way? Zahra had a prosthetic leg and the witch was repulsive enough to say Zahra couldn't have a bicycle until she learned how to run. Unreal. And now it looks like she has murdered Zahra. I hope Elisa rots in hell.

Prosthetic leg confirmed as Zahra's

Published: Nov. 1, 2010 at 8:20 PM

HICKORY, N.C., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A grand jury Monday indicted the stepmother of missing North Carolina 10-year-old Zahra Baker on a felony obstruction of justice charge.

The Catawba County grand jury handed up the one-count indictment charging Elisa Baker the same day Hickory police confirmed a prosthetic leg found last week belonged to Zahra, the Hickory Daily Record reported.

Zahra Baker's Story: An Indictment!

Posted: October 22, 2010 01:11 PM

Zahra Baker is a little girl who lived with her father and step-mother in Hickory, North Carolina. She is the picture of innocence, freckle-faced and smiling in every photo. She is a cancer survivor, loved by her friends and classmates. She is the proverbial "girl next door."

Thirteen days ago Zahra Baker was reported missing. No one knows what has happened to Zahra these past two weeks. But what we do know is that she has been for many months a victim of domestic abuse.

The headlines tell the tale of her disappearance and the search for clues for her abductor. It is a tragedy. It is tragic not only because the inquiry into her disappearance quickly became a homicide investigation; it is also tragic because of how she was treated while we know she was alive, and how we reacted.

Elisa Baker's indictment:

Excuse me if this is premature, but where is Adam Baker's indictment? Just my opinion! Seems everyone in the county knew what was going on and the horrific abuse Zahra suffered. Surely, he knew and if he didn't assist in her actual murder, he's involved in the cover up scheme. He allowed the abuse and turned a blind eye. He is not innocent, he should have protected his daughter. Shameful and disgusting. Rest in peace, Zahra. I hope they find her body today. Sad

Adam Baker Faces Shouting Neighbors At Hickory Home

Updated: 5:26 pm EDT November 2, 2010

HICKORY, N.C. -- Adam Baker, the father of missing 10-year-old Zahra Baker, is being evicted from his Hickory home.

Adam Baker was at the home, located on 21st Avenue NW, for about two hours on Tuesday. He and his attorney took photos of the backyard of the home, which investigators spent days digging through. Adam Baker’s attorney said taking the photos was “just part of the process.”

Adam Baker Returns To Hickory Home, Faces Shouting Neighbors

A crowd gathered at the home while Adam Baker was there, standing near the memorial that has been set up for Zahra, who was reported missing on Oct. 9. Some people began shouting at the girl’s father.

“You ought to be in jail,” one person said. “You ought to be hung.”

“I'm angry, extremely angry,” another person said. “He deserves to be locked up.”

Exclusive: Letters Say Zahra's Dad Did Something 'Horrifying'

David Lohr

(Nov. 2) -- Letters obtained exclusively by AOL News and believed to be written by Zahra Clare Baker's stepmother discuss the 10-year-old disabled girl's disappearance and say that her father, Adam, did something "kinda horrifying" with the young girl's remains.

"We really didn't kill her, but what he did after the fact is kinda horrifying," Elisa Baker wrote in letters to a crime memorabilia dealer. "[It] makes me scared of him. So I probably am gonna go ahead and file [for divorce]. I have lost my whole life anyway."

The letters were sent to Eric Gein, owner of Serial Killers Ink, one of the top-selling murderabilia websites, which frequently publishes letters and artwork from accused criminals. Gein told AOL News that he wrote to Baker in the Hickory, N.C., jail shortly after her arrest. He said he has received two very telling letters from her. He shared copies of both with AOL News.

"We really didn't kill her, but what he did after the fact is kinda horrifying," Elisa Baker wrote in letters to a crime memorabilia dealer. "[It] makes me scared of him. So I probably am gonna go ahead and file [for divorce]. I have lost my whole life anyway."

This disgusting monster crawled straight out of hell!!!

Hickory Deputy Chief of Police Clyde Deal acknowledged that the letters likely were written by Elisa Baker. "I think probably these letters were down at the jail," he said after AOL News showed them to him. "I am not a handwriting analyst, but I mean I wouldn't suspect that it didn't [come from her].

"Obviously not everything she speaks in there is true," he added, noting that the contents of the letter "sound much like the same stuff that she's spouting to some other people."

In the letters AOL News obtained, Baker described her life behind bars and some of the details that led to her incarceration.

"I'm going crazy in this cell," Baker wrote. "I have told the cops everything I know [a]bout what's happened to Zahra. They arrested Adam, but he got right back out. How fair is that? See I told you I have no support. I have never been so angry over stuff as I am right now. He knows what happened to Zahra, and yet I'm the one in here at least for now."

"If I hadn't admitted to that stupid note I [would] be out in three weeks but no, they kept pushing an[d] he did that too," Baker wrote, according to one of the letters.

It gets even more disgusting, repugnant, putrid! OMG... barf

"You wouldn't believe all the hate mail. People actually wanna kill me. ... My lawyers don't tell me all the world is saying but if it is anything like these letters [oh my God]," Baker said.

In regard to her stepdaughter, Baker had little to say other than reporting that the cops "know where she is and what he has done."

I'm glad she's reading her mail.

"I just wonder if Zahra hadn't survived Cancer an[d] been from Australia, if it would truly be like this. There are so many missing kids, but Zahra isn't missing," Baker wrote.

That's classic, now she's blaming Zahra.......typical of an abuser and child murderer. Beastly bitch, may you rot in hell. Evil or Very Mad

I'm horrified too kh. I hate to speculate on what happened, but it's not pleasant when you think about the cadaver dog hits that were reported.

Zahra Baker Case: Letters Apparently From Elisa Baker Say Husband Did Something 'Horrifying'
Cops Say Letters Make Claims Similar to What Elisa Baker Told Police

By LEE FERRAN
Nov. 3, 2010

In jailhouse letters apparently written by the stepmother of missing 10-year-old Zahra Baker, she claims that neither she nor her husband killed the disabled girl, but that Zahra's father did something "horrifying" after the girl was dead.

Police in Hickory, N.C., where Elisa Baker is being held on an obstruction of justice charge, said they had seen images of the letters but couldn't verify that she wrote them without looking at the originals.

Deputy Chief Clyde Deal told ABC News that the handwriting was "similar" to hers and the content matched some of what the woman has been telling police.

"I don't necessarily have any reason to doubt [that Elisa Baker wrote the letters], but I can't say that she did write them either," Deal said.

The letters, obtained by ABC News, appear to shift any blame from Elisa Baker to her husband Adam Baker.

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. – Hickory police say they found a bone while searching in Caldwell County and that bone could be connected to the Zahra Baker case. The bone will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s office in Chapel Hill for further examination.

Hickory police reported the find after spending part of Wednesday draining a pond near Christie Road and searching the woods near that pond. Neighbors say the area smells, because hunters dump deer carcasses there.

I don't like the sound of that wood chipper machine. Something's up with that, I think.
Sick!

I hope to God they didn't put her in the chipper. How horrifying would that be? If they did, I swear, there should be sweet justice & someone put those SOB's in there too!

Fysty, I hope they didn't too, but that statement Elisa made "he did something horrifying" gave me bad chills.

The lady who works at Smoker Friendly is on the Sawmills Rescue Squad, and she searched beside of Elisa's daughter during the early days of this case. They became friends and the daughter told her yesterday that part of the info Elisa gave to LE was that Zahra died in her sleep, but because of the bruises, Adam was afraid to report it so he used a chain saw and cut her up. She said parts were buried all over the yard and in the mulch piles, inside the walls and above the ceiling, and some parts were put through the chipper.

The girl at the store said, 'you know Elisa lied a lot, so her daughter doesn't know whether to believe her or not, but LE must, as they have dugged up the entire yard, removed whole sections of walls and sections of the ceiling.

I hope the bone they found is part of Zahra and then they can be charged with her murder. I don't believe she died in her sleep, unless she died from injuries she had received from these two monsters.

Wow, Mama, that is horrifying and it does match where LE has been searching. Thanks for the update, although it is very sad for Zahra.

Oh sweet Lord, poor Zahra. Elisa probably does throw some truths in her lies. The dogs hitting on the wood chipper was so disturbing. I kind of felt maybe they had done that then burned it. Beyond evil.

I don't believe she just up and died in her sleep either, look how strong this child was. Crying or Very sad

When the Baker's moved to Caldwell County from Australia they lived with Elisa's family, but when they didn't help with their part of the bills, they were asked to leave. They were told that Zahra could stay there until they had a place and was set up to take care of her. Elisa's family made sure Zahra kept her doctor appts as they tested her every month to see if the cancer in her lungs had returned.

The daughter said Zahra has not seen the doctor in a year. So, if she died in her sleep, it could have been the cancer did come back. She also said they didn't take her to the doctor because they were afraid the bruising would have been blamed on them.

Mama, what you said makes sense. But if the cancer did come back, poor Zahra would have been so weak at the end, and she was being forced to run up that hill? Outrageous!

That just sounds like a statement made to cover for Elisa's horrible treatment of Zahra. I don't believe for one second that Zahra died in her sleep. Not one second.

And I'm sorry... if they didn't cause the bruising, it wouldn't have ever even crossed their minds that someone would blame them for it. Again, that's just an excuse for neglecting Zahra.

I guess I should have added that to my statement, that I don't believe that she died in her sleep either, but IF she did, it could have been what Mama said, the cancer returned. But then they look like bigger monsters for making her run that hill. I think they're just CYAing themselves.

That makes them even more monstrous if Zahra was sick again. I hope to see Adam Baker arrested soon. There is a special place in hell waiting on these two pigs. I wish someone could get a hold of her and beat her ass in jail. Too bad they've got her in protective custody. Zahra wasn't protected.

Elisa writing all these letters blaming everyone else is beyond despicable. Poor me.......... barf

Dietrich says she gave Zahra's father custody of their daughter because she was suffering postnatal depression. She says she has spent years trying to track the girl down.

I don't know if I believe this or not. I would have to hear just how hard she tried to find Zahra.
