Possible new clues in missing Morenci boys case

by Greg Pioterek
WNWO - Toledo., OH

Posted: 07.11.2011 at 8:23 AM

Police in Morenci, MI may have a few fresh clues into the disappearance of three missing Morenci boys. WNWO found out last week that they would be getting some help from a Shiawasee county search and rescue team, doing some training. Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks told WNWO, that the team wanted to help and train at the same time.

Snipped:

Michigan State Trooper Andrew Coohon said that items were found during the sweep, by the search and rescue team. However, Coohon cautions, it is to early to tell if they are related to the case. The items will be tested in Lansing for DNA.

It seems as though there is a conflict in statements from Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks and Michigan State Trooper Andrew Coohon.

Whatever the case may be, I do hope Alexander, Andrew and Tanner are found soon. ♥ ♥ ♥

Skelton case: Skelton continues to talk and change his story

Posted on July 18, 2011 by Valhall

John Skelton continues to grant interviews as he sits in a Lenawee county jail cell awaiting trial for his multiple charges surrounding the disappearance of his three small sons, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner. As you will recall at least twice since being arrested last year he has called news stations and given phone interviews. This time he agreed to a series of interviews with the Detroit Free Press at the jail.

John Skelton makes plea deal in Morenci disappearance of 3 young sons

12:40 PM, Jul. 28, 2011

Detroit Free Press - Detroit, MI

ADRIAN -- The Morenci man accused in the disappearance of his three sons pleaded no contest today to three counts of unlawful imprisonment today in Lenawee County Circuit Court.

John Skelton is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 15.

He could receive 15 years, which would be served concurrently, on the charges, his attorney John Glaser said today.

As part of the plea deal, Glaser said kidnapping and parental kidnapping charges have been dropped. If he had been convicted of kidnapping, Skelton could have faced up to life in prison.

Plea deal could work against dad in the case of his missing sons

By GINA DAMRON - Detroit Free Press
Bellingham Herald - Bellingham, WA

Thursday, Jul. 28, 2011

DETROIT Prosecutors struck a plea deal with a Morenci father Thursday in the disappearance of his three young sons, but that agreement doesn't preclude murder charges.

Legal experts say it was a prudent decision - by allowing John Skelton to plead no contest to unlawful imprisonment charges, he'll be sent to prison as law enforcement officials continue to build a murder case against him.

The Lenawee County prosecutor and Morenci police chief said in a statement Thursday that the agreement reflected what they believe a jury would have ultimately concluded. Under the plea deal, kidnapping and parental kidnapping charges were dropped.

MORENCI, MI (WTOL) - A plea bargain has been reached in the case of the missing three Morenci, Michigan boys.

In a surprise move, all existing charges were dropped Thursday against John Skelton regarding the disappearance of his sons Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner.

Lesser charges were filed instead. Skelton entered a No Contest plea and will be back in Lenawee County Circuit Court on September 15 for sentencing.

Updated: Skelton keeps his secrets in plea bargain over missing boys

ADRIAN, Mich. — Tanya Skelton wiped tears from her eyes but her ex-husband showed no emotion during a hearing Thursday in Lenawee County Circuit Court where he pleaded no contest to unlawful imprisonment of their three missing sons.

Judge Margaret M.S. Noe found the 39-year-old Morenci man guilty of the charges after reviewing reports by Michigan State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents on the search for the missing boys.

No new light was shed on the whereabouts of Andrew, 9, Alexander, 7, and Tanner, 5, who disappeared from John Skelton’s home on Thanksgiving Day.

Their location “has been and continues to be secret,” said Judge Margaret M.S. Noe.

The plea agreement dismisses kidnapping charges that carry maximum life prison terms. Skelton faces up to a 15-year prison term when he is sentenced Sept. 15. But the bargain preserves the prosecution’s right to bring murder charges if an ongoing homicide investigation bears fruit.

Family of 3 missing boys says it backs police

Dayton Daily News - Dayton, OH
by The Associated Press

Updated 9:41 PM Thursday, July 28, 2011

ADRIAN, Mich. — The family of three young missing southeastern Michigan boys reacted with understanding but disappointment Thursday after a plea deal for the man blamed in his sons' disappearance.

John Skelton pleaded no contest in Lenawee County Circuit Court Thursday to a charge of unlawful imprisonment.

In exchange, prosecutors dropped a charge of kidnapping in the Thanksgiving 2010 disappearance of Andrew, 9; Alexander, 7; and Tanner Skelton, 5.

"The family supports all the decisions made by law enforcement," family spokeswoman Kathye Herrera said in a statement released by the FBI. "There is a sense of discouragement that John will not get the sentence he deserves ... This will not be over until the boys are home."

Dad of three missing boys Googled 'how to break a neck' before kids vanished

Bizarre new details have emerged about the Michigan father who was the last to see his three sons before they disappeared last November.
In court, Judge Margaret Noe said she has read investigative reports by the FBI and state police, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Judge Noe said records show Skelton searched for information on how to break a neck about a week before the children vanished.

Mr Skelton also told authorities he wrapped each boy in a blanket, gave them a stuffed animal, placed them in his van and drove them away.

Maybe he heard on NG about KC looking up necking breaking and he really didn't believe you could find anything about it. I'm sure some of us googled some of the things KC had looked up, merely out of curiosity.

At least I hope that is the only reason.

Missing boys' fate haunts town of Morenci
As John Skelton faces sentencing, residents still seek answers to whereabouts

Doug Guthrie/ The Detroit News
Detroit, MI

Morenci— Residents of this Michigan-Ohio border town will get no relief from Thursday's sentencing of John Skelton, who has pleaded no contest to criminal charges related to the Thanksgiving disappearance of his three young sons.

Unless Skelton makes an unexpected statement in Adrian's Lenawee Circuit Court, the whereabouts of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton will remain a mystery. And Morenci will continue to be haunted by whether they are dead or alive.

"We've still got three beautiful little boys out there, and nobody knows exactly what happened to them," said Larry Sines, owner of the Maid for You cleaning service on Morenci's Main Street. "It's like an empty void in the pit of your stomach. You can't get it filled because this person, I can't even call him a dad, has turned things upside down."

Minister tells Action News about haunting conversation with John Skelton; fears children are dead

WXYZ - Detroit, MI

MORENCI, Mich. (WXYZ) - Three little boys from South-central Michigan have been missing since Thanksgiving of last year. Their father, 39-year-old John Skelton, who may have been the last person to see them before they disappeared, will be sentenced tomorrow in a Lenawee County courtroom for unlawful imprisonment.

He could get up to fifteen years on that charge, instead of the possible life sentence for the kidnapping charge he originally faced. His sons, Alexander, Andrew and Tanner are now considered homicide victims, despite the fact that no evidence of that crime has been found.

Judge gives Morenci dad 10-15 years in sons' disappearance

Doug Guthrie/ The Detroit News
Detroit, MI

Adrian— The father of three boys missing from their Morenci home since Thanksgiving was sentenced Thursday to a guideline-busting 10 to 15 years in prison under terms of a prosecutor's plea bargain that avoids trial on kidnapping but leaves open the possibility of murder charges if police are correct in believing John Skelton killed his sons.

Investigators say no credible trace of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton has been reported since they were last seen playing in the backyard of their Morenci home Nov. 25.

"It is my belief that justice may never be served in this case, that you should serve each and every day in prison that Andrew, Alexander and Tanner remain missing," Lenawee County Circuit Judge Margaret Noe told Skelton Thursday.

God willing a break will come and he will get charged with murder. Seeing how sick this guy really is maybe it is best this precious children are back in his arms. 10-15 years for missing boys' father
Sentence above standard; 'Justice may never be served,' judge says

Doug Guthrie/ The Detroit News
Detroit, MI

Adrian— The father of three boys missing from their Morenci home since Thanksgiving was sentenced Thursday to a guideline-busting 10-15 years behind bars after pleading no contest to their unlawful imprisonment.

But authorities warned that John Skelton — who has insisted since his arrest nine months ago that he gave his 9-, 7- and 5-year-old sons to a secret child protection organization — will be charged with murder and face life without parole if his sons are found dead.

"A lot can happen in the next 10 to 15 years," Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks said Thursday after Lenawee Circuit Judge Margaret Noe rejected a routine sentencing guideline recommendation calling for minimums of 31/2 to seven years.

Well, at least he will be in prison while they continue to look for these boys. I wish they would be found safe and sound, but I think that is almost impossible.

Sean Michael Phillips, John Skelton cases have similarities: both fathers accused of abducting their missing children

(UPDATE) In a Michigan town nearly 250 miles away from Ludington — where a 5-month-old baby girl has been missing since June — another community is searching for answers in a case similar to that of Sean Michael Phillips.

John Skelton, of Morenci — like Phillips — has been charged with unlawful imprisonment in connection with the disappearance of his three young sons.

Skelton was sentenced Thursday in Lenawee Circuit Court to 10 to 15 years in prison.

Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton went missing while in their father’s custody over the Thanksgiving holiday last year. John Skelton, who pleaded no contest to charges of unlawful imprisonment in their disappearance, was sentenced in September to 10-15 years in prison.

Missing boys' mom still hopeful they will return home alive

MORENCI, Mich. — One year ago, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, the mother of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton said they were talking about going to Ford Field in Detroit to watch the Hudson Tigers play for the state football championship.

The boys never got to go to the game.

The three Skelton brothers have been missing since Thanksgiving, when their father failed to return them to their mother, Tanya Zuvers, after a scheduled visitation.

They were last seen with their father, John Skelton, who was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to unlawfully imprisoning his sons. He claims he gave them to an underground organization to prevent Zuvers from having custody. The two were estranged at the time and have since been divorced.

Morenci keeps hopes alive

Doug Guthrie/ The Detroit News

Morenci — Tanya Zuvers refuses to speak of her three missing sons in the past tense.

In the year since the Thanksgiving disappearance of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton, hundreds of volunteers launched a futile search of this Michigan-Ohio border town and its vast surrounding farms, woods and waters.

Ten months later, their father, John Skelton, was sentenced to 10-15 years in prison after pleading no contest to unlawful imprisonment and steadfastly refusing to tell of their whereabouts.

Skelton said he gave his sons to a secret child-protection group, dreamed of them dead and did Internet research about neck-breaking. Because of those statements, Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks switched his missing-person search to a homicide investigation.

Morenci police seek tips on 3 missing brothers at 1-year anniversary

1:42 AM, Nov. 26, 2011

Detroit Free Press - Detroit, MI

Morenci police canvassed an intersection Friday, hoping to get new tips about three missing brothers who disappeared a year ago and to give information about the boys.

Police Chief Larry Weeks said officers made contact with about 129 vehicles early in the morning at the intersection of U.S.-127 and Morenci Road -- an area police believe the boys' father, John Skelton, was driving during the same hours a year earlier.

Vigilance urged on anniversary of Skelton boys’ disappearance

By David Panian

MORENCI, Mich. — One year ago, the search for the missing Skelton boys was just starting in Morenci. On Sunday afternoon, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner’s family and friends and scores of community members gathered to remind everyone to keep looking.

The event in the Morenci High School gym was a look back at the past year, a call to people to remain vigilant in the hope that the boys can be returned home and a public thank-you from the boys’ family to the community. Relatives and friends played roles in the hour-long program, which featured the reading of a poem written by one of the boys’ cousins and a song sung by a family friend. People were also directed to a new website, skeltonbrothers.org, to learn more about the search for the boys. T-shirts, car magnets and window clings were sold at cost to try to raise awareness and maybe find someone who has information about the boys.

“If you keep the word out, it’s just going to take the right person to see it, and that’s what it’s all about,” family friend Kathye Herrera said after the event.

Tanner, Alexander and Andrew Skelton have been missing since 11-26-10.

I check for updates ever so often but no news of them being found.

As the snow melts once again and spring emerges, I pray that some one will discover these three precious boys. It's past time to bring them home. afro afro afro

John Skelton, the Michigan father whose 3 boys went missing: Whatever happened to ...?

Published: Monday, July 30, 2012, 5:55 AM
Mark Gillispie, The Plain Dealer

Whatever happened to John Skelton, the Michigan father whose three young boys went missing in November 2010?

Skelton remains behind bars in a Michigan prison after pleading no contest to three counts of unlawful imprisonment in September 2011.

His three sons, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner, however, remain missing. Police in Morenci, Mich., long ago gave up hope that the three boys, who were 9, 7 and 5 years old, would be found alive.

Missing Morenci boys' relatives cling to hope 2 years later

By Christine Ferretti
The Detroit News

Morenci — Courtney Derby won't be convinced that her three younger brothers are forever gone.

The Skelton boys — Tanner, 7, Alexander, 9, and Andrew, 10 — made national news in 2010 when they vanished from this tiny rural town on Thanksgiving Day while in their father's care.

"People ask me, 'how do you still have hope?' Well, you never lose it," Derby, 21, said in a recent interview with The Detroit News.

"My heart just doesn't tell me they are gone."

Nearly two years later, media coverage of the boys' bizarre disappearance has waned, but the family isn't letting up in their efforts to locate them.

Posters circulate and a privately funded reward is more than $60,000. There are bumper stickers on cars and bracelets on wrists.

They are such adorable little boys. How anyone could harm a child let alone such agreeable little faces is beyond me.
I hope they ARE alive somewhere and are being cared for with all the love, hugs and kisses these little ones are entitled to.

Please let them be protected and found safe.
