Jurors in Keaton trial recommend death sentence

Posted: Jun 02, 2015 9:07 AM PST  Updated: Jun 02, 2015 2:41 PM PST

MOBILE, AL (WALA) - Heather Keaton could soon become the first woman from Mobile County every sentenced to the death penalty.
That was the jury's recommendation after deliberating for only 30 minutes Tuesday.

Keaton showed no emotion as the jury foreman read the decision.  11 jurors voted in favor of the death penalty,  and one juror voted for life without parole.  Only 10 votes were needed for the death penalty recommendation.

...The jury's decision is only a recommendation.  The judge will make the final decision when he hands down the sentence on August 20th.

So she is the first? Big deal. If she did not want to be the first she should not have tortured and violently killed those two little ones who trusted her! I think a slow death with anti freeze would be very appropriate for BOTH of them. Let it be a lesson for all time we will not tolerate this ill treatment of our most vulnerable.... our precious little ones. I could not believe it when I read how she treated these children. Pulling out the hair of the little girl? Burns? Stuffing in suitcases? Duct taping? Evil. Very evil.

Let them rot.

Alabama woman sentenced to death for children’s torture, murder
BY NINA GOLGOWSKI
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

"....An Alabama woman who helped barbarically torture and murder her common-law-husband's two small children has been sentenced to death.

Heather Leavell-Keaton was sentenced to die by lethal injection Thursday, six months after the children's father, John DeBlase, was handed the same sentence.

Keaton was found guilty of poisoning the children, Natalie, 5, and Chase, 3, with anti-freeze in their meals but it was the choking that ultimately killed them, the court heard.

After enduring months of being burned with cigarettes and hot candle wax, the oldest child was duct-taped and stuffed inside of a suitcase for 12 hours in March 2010...."
