Pi, do you have a link to the article where she was found safe? I would love to read it too.

Thank God she was found, and I wish her the best.

Hey, mama! I receive e-mail alerts from NCMEC as I volunteer in their Poster Partner Program. NCMEC sends e-mails for recoveries as well as missing. Below is a copy of my e-mail from them: (It is also posted here: http://charleyproject.org/resolved.html scroll down the page to approx. the 8th recovery. There are other recoveries listed there - mostly deceased or parental, but this one was the longest missing.) I can't find any news articles about Maria yet, but will keep looking Very Happy )

Okay, I was mistaken in my previous comment. This girl had been missing for way more than 4 years. A post on Websleuths states that a friend of the family took her and she was probably in Mexico the whole time.

Janet Carina Munoz
Munoz, 12, disappeared from Fresno, California on April 27, 1993. Her case was classified as a non-family abduction. Munoz was found safe in July 2011.

Non-Family Abduction from Orange Grove, California since April 27, 1993

Age: 12 -- Height: 5'0" -- Weight: 100 lbs -- Hair Color: Brown -- Eye Color: Brown

Janeth's left ear has a deformity known as Cauliflower ear.

Janeth was abducted on April 27, 1993 by Federico Alvarado. Photos and vital statistics for Alvarado are currently unavailable, but he was approximately 19 - 22 years old in 1993. They may have traveled out of state or they may have traveled to Mexico.

It seems to be the norm to not have anything in the news when a missing person is found. There are no articles about these two cases anywhere.

Maybe the idea is to give the family privacy and allow them to move on with their lives. It would be nice, though, to hear what happened. It could lead to other recoveries if people knew what to look for.
