LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A search of Brandon Scott Lavergne's home in the investigation of Mickey Shunick's death uncovered the driver's license of a Texas woman whose whereabouts remain unknown. That's according to a review of a case file released Monday.
...
The Advocate reports (bit.ly ROGhxD) detectives found the wallet and driver's license of Madeline Aumiller in a search of Lavergne's home on July 5. Amiller's brother told authorities his sister last accessed her bank account in April.

Trying to find info on Madeline Aumiller.
Here are some links/info:

Obit for father. States he was buried in Texarkana in 2009. Dau is from Louisiana back then. Father was into oil. Owned Kandy Oil Co. (Perp reportedly worked on oil rigs.) Possible father (Frank) brother (Rodney Lewis Aumiller):
http://www.natchezdemocrat.com/2009/09/15/frank-aumiller-jr/

End of this story states TWO wallets were found. One for a male, the other a female. They were related persons:

" The man who owned the wallet died of natural causes in 2009. The woman who owned the second wallet had not accessed her bank account for six to eight weeks, her brother told police, and he had not heard from her for some time.

She has ties to Lafayette, but police could not find a connection with Lavergne, the report states."

Lavergne's friends aided Shunick probe
4:00 AM, Oct 16, 2012

Clipped---

" On May 19, hours after he allegedly shot Shunick to death, a male friend of Lavergne's from New Orleans drove Lavergne to Ochsner Medical Center for treatment of stab wounds.

Lavergne told police Shunick fought him twice, stabbing him with his own knife before he shot her.
--- Good for her! She had enough power and training to inflict injury upon him which, IMO, led to his arrest.

The friend said Lavergne told him two friends in Lafayette stabbed him and he drove to New Orleans for medical treatment because he didn't want to get them in trouble.

"Records showed that he arrived with blood saturated band aids covering wounds that were no longer bleeding," an investigator wrote.

The friend told police the center console of Lavergne's truck was covered with blood.

Lavergne was released from Ochsner May 20. He took photographs of his injuries with his cell phone while at the hospital.

Sometime after 5 p.m. May 20, Lavergne put the bloody shirt he was wearing at the time of the stabbing into a Dumpster at the Acadia Parish business of his fiancee's father."
--- Did he think it was "safe" or was he trying to implicate another? Bet he turned that family against him real quick!

Ah! The girl's father caught on!

"That man visited the Lafayette Police Department on May 29 to report suspicions that Lavergne might be involved in Shunick's disappearance, the report states."

" The documents show Lavergne's half-sister in Conroe, Texas, told police she drove him on May 30 to a remote location in San Jacinto County, Texas, where he burned his truck. The truck was found May 31 on Hues Road in Shepherd, Texas."

" The cell phone number of Shunick's mother was found written on an envelope in the truck Lavergne was driving when he was arrested July 5, according to the report."

??????????????????
Conroe TX: Isn't this the area where many persons have gone missing or been found dead? There is that corridor of missing and dead there in TX and IIRC, Conroe is part/near it.

Perp's sister assisted by following him to the truck burn area to give him a ride home. She never entered the truck. Her 12 yo son, however, had accompanied her for the ride police interviewed him as he WAS in the truck!

Pages 10-11 are horrendous. They are the account of a woman who had known the perp since childhood. When she started dating a neighbor of his, he became a stalker and worse. Then, one day, Lisa Pate was murdered--- another story. Shortly after, the childhood acquaintace of the perp was riding in a car with him following the neighbor, her boyfriend. The perp forced her car into the other car; the boy friend crashed and was was killed. She was hospitalized for 3 months. The perp had told others he had cut the brake lines of the boy friend's car.

And the body of Lisa Pate was found behind the boyfriend's home.

This is from the investigation. PDF files. 31 pages.

"Shy" is now deemed by the professional mental health community as a PD -- a developmental personality disorder. It used to be considered "cute" and now they are realizing that it represents a social detachment and inability to socially acclamate. It's also one of the traits they look for in spectrum autism or even adult Aspergers Syndrome.

This may be a repeat. I found the journal writings to be of interest.

Brandon Scott Lavergne in his journal: 'I became the darkness'

1:21 AM, Oct 17, 2012

"I started breaking into houses at 12 until I was 20. I must have robbed over 200 houses in 8 years," Lavergne wrote. He said he did many bad things, "from beating up people, to selling drugs, to murder.

"I was a horrible person," he added, "And I did all that because I hated myself and couldn't stand to live. I just wanted to die."

In another letter to his wife, Lavergne wrote of his love for her and the child she carried for him, a daughter born while he was in prison.

"I promise I will not hit our children," Lavergne wrote. "I remember well the pain and anger I felt when my dad hit me. I pray for the sins of my father not to be passed on to me and our children. I want it to end with me."

Lavergne wrote of being sorry about sexually assaulting the teen, wishing he could take it back, being unable to understand why he hurt someone who was a friend and did nothing to hurt him."

" But the letter turned darker as he reminded his wife that he never hit her without first telling her at least 10 times to leave him alone.

"I warned you what I would do if you didn't stop," he wrote."

Sigh. He's a very good writer; I'll give him that. That's ALL the credit I'll give him, though. Lots of people had horrid things done to them throughout their lives and did not become rapists and murderers.

His writings about when he hit his wife are especially interesting, as I am familiar with spousal abuse in a most personal way. Unlike my ex-husband, he "warned" his wife about pushing his buttons (whatever; still no excuse). However, much like my ex-husband, he was willing to exhibit enough restraint that he could later surmise that his actions were not his own fault and that I'd pushed him to it (ahh...proof that he CAN control his own actions). He can sure quote Scripture well, too...a lot like my ex. Places the blame on himself (theoretically), but says the woman pushed him to it. Says he wants to die and quotes Scripture about his need for God and his unworthiness, saying that if only GOD would remove these things from him, he'd be capable of being a decent man. So, he's admitting that he's a monster...but blaming his father, his wife AND God for making him one (boy, oh boy, have I heard that load of crap more times than I can stand to recall). Cry me a freakin' river. He's so pathetic, it's sickening.

Brandon Scott Lavergne's confession details Mickey Shunick murder

Post by Stolat on Fri Oct 26, 2012 1:35 pm

The 1st hand confession has been released to the media for the first time.

I would almost dismiss this story as BS except for the fact that she indeed was never found to be sexually assaulted and her sister testified that she did have drugs on her that day. I'm guessing the police checked out all these facts and the forensics of where the bike was hit and what part of the road before accepting the confession as part of the deal. So sad -- she died fighting, which is commendable...but then the question becomes did she die fighting? Was there a chance she could have survived without one?

Lavergne now seeks to overturn guilty pleas

January 9, 2013
Written by Claire Taylor

(Edited audio of Brandon Lavergne in a police car Aug. 7, 2012 showing invwstigator where he hit and shot Mickey Shunick)

Convicted killer Brandon Scott Lavergne wants the court to throw out his guilty pleas in the killings of Mickey Shunick and last year and the earlier slaying of Lisa Pate, a Lafayette Parish woman whose body was found near Church Point in 1999.

The Advertiser has learned that at the heart of that motion is the fact that Lavergne maintained throughout his talks with police — including his taped confession — that he accidentally struck university coed Mickey Shunick's bicycle and never intended to kill her.

That assertion is supported by recordings obtained by The Daily Advertiser.

Lavergne, serving a life sentence in the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, filed documents in December asking 15th Judicial District Judge Herman Clause to overturn his guilty pleas, claiming numerous errors on the part of his court-appointed attorneys, prosecutors and police.

Clause rejected the request Jan. 2 on a technicality and
returned them to Lavergne for resubmission

Wow. So he doesn't like the punishment now and wants to negotiate? No Too bad! And if he had accidentally struck and killed someone, he would not leave the scene of the crime, fleeing as if he had done something wrong; and, he would have LEFT THE BODY not taken it away to be HIDDEN away; and he would NOT have taken a bike and DUMPED it in hopes it would NEVER BE FOUND.

Nah. Let him rot. beer

BTW, video shows he TRAILED HER! Finger

.......?

Didn't Lavergne agree to his sentence after admitting to the killings of Mickey Schunick AND Lisa Pate? shifty

Didn't Lavergne lead the investigators to the body of Mickey Schunick in exchange for a plea deal? shifty

Was there some type of error on the side of the prosecution that may allow this reprobate to walk freely amongst us?

For society's sake, I hope not! awe

District Judge Denies Brandon Scott Lavergne's Claims

by Tonya LaCoste

Posted: Mar 12, 2013 1:57 PM
Updated: Mar 12, 2013 1:57 PM

A state district judge has denied convicted killer Brandon Scott Lavergne's request to withdraw his guilty plea.

In one of his claims, Lavergne argues items--such as his cell phone, computers, clothes, documents, and a sword--taken during the investigation should be returned to him. He says they're not contraband and they're no longer needed as evidence, but 15th Judical District Judge Herman Clause denied his request based on Lavergne's application to withdraw his guilty plea. "Thus the possibility of renewed prosecution of the case and the defendant going to trial for these crimes remains," Clause noted in his order. He added, "In that situation, the seized property may be needed as evidence."

Lavergne is serving two life sentences for killing Pate and Mickey Shunick and avoided the death penalty in exchange for confessions and telling investigators the location of Shunick's body.

Judge Clause denied all four of Lavergne's post conviction relief claims. Lavergne argues lack of jurisdiction in the Lisa Pate case and an illegal indictment, denied due process and the right to a fair trial, torture and coercion, and ineffective attorneys.

Stumbled on this old article but wanted to share:
clipped---

" Is it possible Brandon is responsible for his Uncle's death in 1999?

It is a little confusing to follow the below info, so keep in mind you may have to read it a couple of times. :-) AND once again, I am NOT saying that Brandon is responsible for any other killings and I am aware that he has not even had a trial yet, so he is an alleged killer.

Claire Gianfala, (the woman that has been telling the media that BSL stalked her) Ellis Slocum and Kevin Atchinson were in a traffic accident on June 19, 1999 that resulted in Kevin Atchinson's death. Kevin Atchinson was suppose to be driving per the police report.

Lisa Pate's body was found under the floor boards of the house that Kevin Atchinson lived in, but please note that Lisa reportedly died of asphyxiation on July 3, 1999 and Kevin had died June 19, 1999. Lisa Pate, per police, was murdered by Brandon.

Leander "Black" Venable is Brandon's uncle. Black Venable, 65, was a butcher and he was found murdered in his home on March 1, 1999. I cannot find anything on this case and cannot verify it was a murder or not. "

Cracking the case
Lavergne finally opened up about Shunick during interrogation, according to videotapes obtained by The Daily Advertiser

May 19, 2013 7:55 AM

The Daily Advertiser - Lafayette, LA

The day he was arrested, Brandon Scott Lavergne was initially relaxed and joking with investigators.

He thought he was being questioned about altering his driver’s license to hide the fact that he was a registered sex offender, but after an hour or so, it became clear that investigators wanted to know about the disappearance of university student Mickey Shunick.

“Where were you on May 19?” then-Lt. Jack Lightfoot of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office asked.

Lavergne said he didn’t remember. Investigators continued to press until finally they recounted a phony tale he had told family and friends about being stabbed at a New Orleans gas station.

It was then that Lavergne stopped talking.

A videotaped recording of the interrogation, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Advertiser through the state’s open records law, shows how quickly Lavergne’s temperament changed during questioning.

“It was a considerable difference in his personality, which is to be expected,” Lightfoot, now a captain, said recently. “I think there was more shock on his part than anything. And he pretty much didn’t want to have a whole lot to say after that.”

Lavergne was still reserved when Lightfoot spoke to him a second time. By the third interrogation, he began to open up.

Remembering Mickey
One year after disappearance, Shunick still touches hearts in the community

May 19, 2013 2:17 AM

Written by:
Amanda McElfresh, Megan Wyatt and Claire Taylor

The Daily Advertiser - Lafayette, LA

The photos of Mickey Shunick still sit in the offices of Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft and Det. Stephen Bajat.

The details of the case — the daily routine of the Shunick task force, the way they learned of Shunick’s disappearance exactly one year ago today — are still fresh in their minds.

Bajat still gets a chill when he talks about arresting Brandon Scott Lavergne, the man who later confessed to Shunick’s disappearance and murder.

“We just kept saying, ‘It’s our job to bring her home,’” said Bajat, who led the special Shunick task force that investigated her disappearance and death. “We knew there was some foul play early on. We had our hopes that maybe she was kept alive, but we’re kind of realists. We were hoping for the best but we thought the worst had happened. Regardless, we still came in and trucked forward.

“Our goal was to bring her back to her family. We weren’t going to stop.”

Today, the pain is still fresh for those who knew the university student, and for a Lafayette community stunned by the abduction and killing. One year later, the case is still etched in the memories of those involved.

“It’s the most impacting case I’ve had,” said former Assistant District Attorney Keith Stutes, who was the lead prosecutor in the case. “I’ve had other cases that were emotional. This case I had a hard time to be able to talk without a wavy voice...She was just going home. She was just trying to get home and had she been about three minutes faster or he’d been about three minutes slower, she’d be home now.

“That’s how cruel fate can be sometimes.”

Acadiana killer Lavergne suing for being portrayed as a 'sick, twisted, murderer'

Jun. 29, 2013 11:13 AM

LAFAYETTE — Brandon S. Lavergne, the convicted killer of two women, is filing a flurry of lawsuits from his solitary prison cell at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola claiming he’s been wrongly portrayed as a “sick, twisted, murderer,” The Advocate of Baton Rouge reports in Saturday's editions

This past week the man who is serving two life sentences after confessing to the killings filed 12 federal lawsuits against those he claims have wronged and persecuted him, the newspaper reports.

According to The Advocate:

The targets of Lavergne’s hand-written lawsuits, which are peppered with misspellings, include the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, his ex-wife, "Dateline NBC" and a former prison cellmate.

Ok. So he is NOT sick or twisted. So he actively knew what he was doing. So he admits to being of sound mind and choosing to murder Mickey and Lisa, et al. Good! That leaves him as being evil. I can accept him as being evil. He carefully planned and executed those plans for the abductions and murders of at least two individuals. He methodically hid the bodies and attempted his cover stories; he drove hundreds of miles (in Mickey's murder) to burn his vehicle so DNA and other evidence would not be found; he planted a false police report on a stolen vehicle, he lied to medical authorities re his own injuries. He purchased a vehicle to match the truck he had owned, torched, and used in the murder; and the "newer" acquisition was of the exact same make, model and year despite it NOT being a new vehicle.

And he KNOWINGLY did this in an attempt to cover-up the murder of Mickey. He admits he is NOT "Sick or twisted" so that leaves us with BL being COGNITIVE, AWARE, and ACTIVELY CHOOSING these murders. And that means he is EVIL.

Torch him. Society does not need to coddle evil-minded persons.

Lavergne allowed to pursue civil lawsuits as a pauper

Jul. 22, 2013 6:15 PM

A federal judge has declared that convicted killer Brandon Lavergne is indigent, allowing the prison inmate to proceed as a pauper with a string of more than 20 civil lawsuits he filed recently, including one against The Daily Advertiser’s parent company and investigative reporter Claire Taylor.

U.S. Magistrate C. Michael Hill issued an order Monday that Lavergne would be allowed to proceed with his suit against Taylor and the Advertiser Media Network, which includes The Daily Advertiser, Daily World and other publications.

“It is the opinion of the court that petitioner does not have sufficient funds to pay a filing fee,” according to the judge’s order.

Pauper

In forma pauperis

(in form-ah paw-purr-iss) Latin for "in the form of a pauper." A party to a lawsuit who cannot afford the court costs and fees can ask that they be waived (forgiven) in order to proceed "in forma pauperis."

Stumbled on this and wanted to share.
Possibility he is involved in many more killings?

Thursday, July 19, 2012
Will more victims be found connected to the alleged killer of Mickey Shunick?

So, I decided to look at my Missing Texas Forty for any females that went missing around 1995 to 2000, which would put Lavergne around 20 years old and from April 2008, when he was let out of jail, till now. If you remember, I was searching for a common denominator for all these missing people when I originally wrote the story and what I came up with was they were all walking except for one. Not one of them has been reported on a bicycle, but Pate was not riding a bicycle and Micky was. I only listed women regardless of age. wrote:

And Police also told the Independent that items retrieved from Lavergne’s home after his July 5 arrest were bloodied pictures he took of himself showing the injuries he sustained May 19, and an undisclosed number of women’s IDs. One of those IDs belonged to Madeline Aumiller, 50, according to KATC. When police shoed up at Lavergne's home to search they found Madeline's wallet with her ID along with her father's wallet and ID. He died in 2009. Her brother verified that said she had been living with Scott Lavergne until he asked her to move out. According to her brother he realized she was missing in April 2012 and found that she had not accessed her bank account since March 2012. Madeline was from Beaumont wrote:

Victims' rights advocate Lynne Marino dies at 78

"....Marino's daughter, Pam Kinamore, is believed to have been one of the seven women killed by accused serial killer Derrick Todd Lee between 1998 and 2003. Kinamore vanished in July 2002, and four days later her body was found under Interstate 10 at Whiskey Bay.

Kinamore became an almost daily-presence on television newscasts across Louisiana during the investigation of her daughter's disappearance and the court case involving Lee. She rarely, if ever, missed a court hearing dealing with cases involving Lee, who remains on death row while his case is under appeal to the Louisiana Supreme Court...."

"....Marino became active in the group Victims and Citizens Against Crime and in addition to her own daughter's case, Marino also would frequently help cast a light on similar cases, including the murder of Lafayette-area college student Mickey Shunick...."
