And Sitrick& Co. forgot to get this article scrubbed.

Snipped.

Bremner said Zahau was not alone in the mansion when Max had his accident. She said that two of the child's teenage siblings were present as well and that Zahau was in the shower at the time of the accident. Max's mother and Jonah Shacknai were divorced, and Zahau had recently divorced as well.

Bremner said investigators told her that the child had been conducting a trick known as "planking," or lying horizontally in unusual locations, around the staircase when he fell. Planking is a fad popularized with photographs and videos online.

I agree Tamta. This article tells a little more!

September 8, 2011 12:30 PM-

Snip- Shacknai hired a PR firm, Sitrick & Co., less than a week after Rebecca Zahau Nalepa's death. Executives at that agency have had a series of off-the-record conversations with reporters whom the agency believes have made mistakes in their coverage.

Media coverage has changed: A source close to the case told BNET that Rebecca told her family she believed Max, Shacknai's 6-year-old son, may have been "planking" on a stair rail before he suffered a fatal fall two days before she died. (Planking is a fad in which people photograph themselves lying face down in unusual locations.) USA Today initially published a story that included the planking reference, but that word was removed from later editions, as these images of Google's cache of two older versions of the story show:

Why was Paul Pfingst at the crime scene?

•September 8, 2011 12:30 PM-

Snip- On the day Rebecca's body was found, attorney Paul Pfingst, a former two-term district attorney in San Diego and now a local criminal defense attorney, showed up at the crime scene and claimed to represent an unknown member of the Shacknai family. When asked about Pfingst's role in the case, San Diego officials said they had not had contact with him. Pfingst did not return a message requesting comment.

Snip- Former San Diego County District Attorney Paul Pfingst visited the Coronado home Wednesday night. He said that the family had been cooperating fully with investigators and that he was asked to help them in that effort.

Well looks like JS would have been better off sending a Sitrick and Co rep to the mansion first instead of Pfingst....

Unfortunately PR success will encounter significant Constraint on their success in both JS and DSs efforts because just enough 'evidence' and possible leads (and women with designer hand bags witnessed on a property at a time when they should not have been acting odd) got out there and that did not even get close to being effectively explained away by LE efforts that has just created a festering environment for self destructive secrecy.

Attempting a cover up campaign under these conditions was an egregious tactical error and if this thing implodes- which the variables indicate that it could, it's going to be ugly.

Ultimate arrogance!

I did not realize how much information is in this MSM article!

September 8, 2011-

Snip- In the letter, Shacknai's lawyer told Bremner that her statements that he is rich and powerful enough to influence law enforcement officials' investigation of the deaths are "false" and "constitute defamation, per se." The letter claims that Shacknai "never once considered retaining an attorney" throughout the investigation and that "it is only now," because of Bremner's allegations, that he has had to do so. That statement stands in contradiction to Sheriff Bill Gore, who told the Sept. 2 press conference that Shacknai had lawyers present when his department briefed the family on their findings prior to their public release.

Who runs an investigation into a suspicious death for seven weeks and only accesses the phone records of the deceased just before the announcement that the person has died due to suicide because they received a phone message?

Who runs an investigation and determines suicide based on a phone message that the investigators did not even attempt to get the phone message record from the server until after they knew it was too late to access phone messages?

Who runs an investigation and makes a suicide determination based on the phone message without ever hearing that message?

Boat load of red flags? You betcha'!

Honestly.

Was there no 'higher ups' that were available that day to walk into that joker's office and get right in his face to say:

"For reals Gore?".

Did it ever occur to anyone that it would have been better to leave the investigation open longer and at least pretend like they were trying to deal with the evidence and develop believable public explanations?

Did Gore get the memo that he was probably going to be one of the first to fall on the sword?

Seems like this is an example of how not to deal with 'the dead girlfriend in billionaire boyfriend's mansion' situation.

Did I ever screw up...
Please cancel that "Boat Load of Red Flags"!

After reading further, it seems maybe the boat
has become a "River Barge of Red Flags"

This whole mess just boggles my mind.
How do all of these people manage to keep their
various stories straight and all the while the stories
don't match up, yet there just isn't enough evidence
to indicate foul play and no need to reopen the case.

At some point, surely this will come unglued at the
seams... But then we all thought the same of the
Kyron Horman case.
Money/powerful lawyers/possibly corrupt LE/silence..
All seems to come down to murderers never being
brought to justice.

Science doesn't lie, but BILL GORE does!! This is totally off topic, but does show how Gore just blatantly LIES TO THE PUBLIC! This is in regards to a citizen who was recently shot by a sheriff....

Officials for the San Diego Sheriffs Dept. said the bullet hit Orey in the arm, but members of her family insist the bullet actually hit her chest . They say that officials aren't telling the whole story about the incident or her injuries, according to KGTV-TV.

"You know what, you guys need to get your story straight," Dennis Morgan, Orey's father, told the station. "She wasn't shot in the arm, she was shot in the chest."

Kristin Arzaga-Morgan, Orey's sister-in-law, told the station that Orey made it through surgery early Monday to repair the wounds from the bullet that entered her chest, exited through her bicep and struck her pinky finger.

"Part of a bullet ricocheted off and hit her in the pinky, and they also had to do a little bit of repair to her pinky as well," she said.

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore insisted that Orey was not shot in the chest; just shot in the arm and that her pinky was "scratched," KGTV-TV reported.

So... no new investigation for Max:

"Rebuttal: Coronado PD
On September 2, 2011 – at a joint media briefing held at San Diego County Sheriff’s Headquarters – the Coronado Police Department presented its findings in the death investigation of Max Shacknai. The short-form version: Max’s death was an accident and not the result of foul play. An artist’s rendering commissioned by the CPD (see graphic) shows how the 6-year-old may have tumbled over the railing at the Spreckels mansion while roughhousing.

Dina Shacknai privately expressed misgivings about the investigation in meetings with CPD detectives in 2011. She claims that Max’s stated weight in the report – 57 pounds – was wildly off-the-mark; an important variable in calculating his momentum and center of gravity. (A May 2011 medical exam weighed him at 44 pounds.) She also says the figure in the rendering looks “too tall” to be her 3-foot-9-inch son.

Despite Dina’s objections, CPD Commander Tom Lawton stands by the report: “We contracted with a biometric professional, a consultant, to look at the biomechanics of the fall. We presented the most likely scenario of how the fall occurred.” He also dismisses the theory that Max might have been smothered, which gained traction after Max’s intensive care physician, Dr. Brad Peterson, observed evidence of suffocation. “The word ‘suffocation’ brings to mind somebody putting their hand over somebody else’s mouth,” Lawton says. “What it really means is loss of oxygen. And that could happen by striking one’s head and cracking one’s vertebrae [as Max’s autopsy indicated]. But to assume it was suffocation in the way the public sees it, as foul play, we found no evidence of that.”

Lawton maintains that Dina’s other forensic objections – the lack of chandelier-caused cuts on Max’s body, inconsistent statements made by Rebecca Zahau, etc. – all fit within the plausible framework of the report. “We’re very confident in the disposition of this case,” he says. “We understand that some Shacknai family members have questions. We’re respectful of [Dina’s] concerns and have talked to her many times. But we see it differently."

Has it escaped every effing reporter out there to ask Nina and Dina(Yes Dina, it's known that you were at Spreckles too that night) why it didn't occur to them in their quest for 'helpful information' to remove the ban placed upon Rebecca from visiting the hospital?

Why are we expected to regard as normal and appropriate the fact that these women (one publicly documented in another state as unstable) intentionally ostracized Rebecca and then defied civil behavior by putting themselves uninvited at late hours on the property where Rebecca lived?

It makes no sense and is the height of ridiculousness.

Girls, If you wanted to talk to Rebecca so badly, why didn't you ask her to come to the hospital????

Well they can think about that in jail I guess!

DS is still in the grieving process. She is in the early stages and the IF ONLY is part of the grieving. There are specific stages that MUST be gone through for acceptance of the loss or change that has impacted a person. The "blame game" is another part and she is heavy placing that at this time. Her belief in reincarnation MAY provide comfort at this time as a buffer to accepting her son's death especially if she did not believe in reincarnation prior to her son's death.

My message to DS: Blaming another might provide comfort to you but it will not bring your child back. Please get some counseling.

Excellent question and logical! DS/NR/JS could have easily stepped into a conference room and spoken privately with DS. Perhaps, even had a doctor present to discuss the issues RZ might have presented.

IMO, DS and JS already knew the truth. DS/NR did NOT go to the residence to "discover the truth" but to exact revenge upon a person they BELIEVED was at fault for the injuries MS had suffered.

BTW, IF they were so intent upon obtaining the "unspoken/unknown truth" why not ask the CPD to perform an investigation? Surely, they are the ones skilled, trained, and legally obligated to obtain that information as DS/NR do not have the authorities or the abilities?

It would have been an obvious reasonable request to ask Rebecca to the hospital to talk about Maxie's accident. Especially since she was coming to the hospital Tuesday evening with Adam to pick up Jonah and Howard. From reports, after dinner, everyone was at the hospital. Dina, Nina, Jonah and Adam. Instead, Rebecca was more useful just sitting in the hospital parking lot waiting for Adam. Nina or Dina could have questioned Rebecca at that time, while they knew she was at the hospital. Unless one or both were really not at the hospital.

They needed a CYA reason to be at the mansion......perhaps they were there for another purpose other than asking Rebecca what happened????????

I had not heard this. I did not know where AS went after the so-called meal at some unknown location. If the four of them were all gathered at the hospital it would have been an excellent time to organize events and alibis. None were at the hospital where MS lay critically ill and dying. He had been left alone. His Daddy had left; his Mommy had left; caring Auntie was not there in Mommy's place; Uncle was busy jacking off somewhere. But before leaving the hospital, Daddy supposedly called RZ to tell her how grave MS' condition was? That makes NO sense! NONE!!! They had more important things to do at that time, so it seems. Have to wonder just what would be more important? And that leads me to the ONE MAJOR event: RZ' death.

(Is it not interesting none of the four were together when RZ was found?)

I would think that CPD would have spoken to everyone who was staying at the G Ave property (and that includes Nina's son, who graduated from HS in 2010), as to the comings/goings of Nina and Dina.......I would also think that CPD would have pulled the camera video from the Coronado Toll Plaza to see when they left the island as well as returned.

@ Inparadise... WHY would CPD pull videos.. Sheeesh.. one death was an accident, the other a suicide. The Shacknai's nor the twins weren't suspected of anything.. no reason to track their whereabouts...

Accidental death. Suicide. CASE CLOSED...

I still wonder how fat some people's pockets are for
making every effort to end this whole matter.
As they say.. MONEY talks... I swear I can see

After Rebecca's body was found, they should have pulled the videos just to make sure that everybody was where they said they were when they said they were............LE shouldn't (and doesn't) take a person's word, they check out their "story"......oh, that is everyone except GORE.

In the beginning of this case, CPD appeared to be doing an actual investigation and leaving all options open. Suddenly, they became bumbling idiots! Have to wonder just what went on behind closed doors for that to have happened. I recall reading RZ' death was suspicious and someone was extremely "violent" in her death; I recall CPS going to the home after MS' accident. Then we end up with a body left uncovered on the lawn for HOURS???? In the hot summer sun??? That, IMO, was deliberately done to screw with a medical report and an autopsy. Prime objective. There was NO plausibility for leaving her like that. None! (Perhaps there was a hope fingerprints might degrade when left that long on a rapidly bloating corpse.)

Someday, the inevitable will happen. As it happens to each of us. It is called death. I can hope the same respect afforded to the body of RZ is visited upon EACH of the principals who caused her death and who left her uncovered in the sun. For hours.
Karma needs payment, IMO.

Hi Marica~~ EXACTLY Marica!!

Dina did not have the pull to cause people in Gore's position to cover for her. The delay seems to have begun pretty immediately. Dina only belongs to that caste dependent upon her association (marriage) to Jonah.

In other words, strings were pulled for one person, and one person only!!!

If Jonah did not know what happened at his house, and only that his son had been severely injured, and now Rebecca, his love, was laying bound, gagged and laying naked in the grass... would he not plead for the police to get to the bottom of this situation? Would he not have presssing questions in his mind keeping him from sleeping at night?

The suggestion of suicide has upset Zahau's family and friends, who said they do not believe she would have killed herself. They describe Zahau as intensely passionate about life. They said she was deeply committed to Shacknai's family and had a special relationship with Max.

"At first I thought he was her kid. He would hang on to her leg. The kid was really happy," Zahau's personal trainer, Scott Marquis, said. "He loved her. Totally loved her."

Marquis, who works a few blocks from the Shacknai mansion at Coronado's Hollywood Fitness, said he saw Zahau days before her death and nothing about her mood or demeanor signaled alarms.

"I know how someone is feeling the moment they walk through the door," Marquis said. "She seemed perfectly happy."

Marquis said Zahau came to the gym nearly every day when she was in town. He said she had been a member for more than a year and was consumed with fitness. Although she talked to him about training, it soon became clear she didn't need his assistance.

"She trained herself. . . . This woman was in shape, fit. She was at the top of her game. You could tell she lived a clean life," Marquis said.

He described Zahau as quiet and focused. He said she didn't initiate conversations, but when anyone greeted her, she would break into a dazzling smile.

Marquis said he was dumbfounded when he learned of Zahau's death. His sense of disbelief only heightened when the details emerged.

"It's just too crazy," he said, adding that violent death is anathema in the tiny beach community. "The only thing that happens in Coronado is a traffic ticket. Nothing happens here."

Marquis said the death continues to dominate conversations at the gym, especially among women who are convinced Zahau was murdered. They doubt a woman would commit suicide in such a manner, Marquis said.

He tends to agree, although he said nobody knows for sure, except maybe detectives.

Yes, this gym closed very suddenly. In fact, they were trying to get members to renew their memberships while at the same time, the equipment was being loaded up onto trucks.

Interesting way to get the gym to quiet down..

Any public statements as to reason for closing ?

Something to the effect that they were charging so little for membership, and didn't have enough members that they could no longer pay their expenses.......the owner was a really shady guy, so I don't know what the real truth is.

IMO, Dina began grieving way before Jonah physically moved out from 'their' home. She has been unable to move beyond the 'anger' stage. Hence the media blitz and accusations against Jonah and Rebecca. She never worked thru Jonah leaving her.

When she realized Rebecca and Max were developing a loving and meaningful connection, I believe she felt she was losing again. She allowed herself to be drawn into an eddy of hate, desperation and obsession where she would find it impossible to see her way out.

Thus, her agenda becoming public.

And she has no qualms who she destroys in her effort to obliterate Jonah.

She reminds me of this insane teacher I had back in fourth grade. She hated a couple boys who sat in the very back. They couldn't sneeze without getting slapped around. Most of the time the boys egged her on just to get the rise from her. Problem was, all of us sitting forward of the boys got smacked upside the head on her way to the boys. We'd lay our heads on the desktop and cover them with our arms. Crazy, crazy woman. She ended up in the rubber room.

I don't think Rebecca's family gonna lay down at all in Dina's mission to destroy Jonah.

Anyone have any thoughts how this may affect Dina Romano's agenda in filing a civil suit against Jonah Shacknai?

Is it necessary the ME change out Max's manner of death from accident to something else in order for her to have grounds to file?

Personally, I don't think Max's case will be reopened. Thus Max's case will remain on the books as an accident.

Is it necessary the ME change out Max's manner of death from accident to something else in order for her to have grounds to file?

Personally, I don't think Max's case will be reopened. Thus Max's case will remain on the books as an accident.

I don't think the manner has to change- even if she thinks she has her woman ex post facto, but will make getting a complaint accepted more difficult perhaps.

I don't see a re-opening happening either

I think behind a lot of this is trying to influence Nina's bad press due to speculation around her involvement in Rebecca's death and creating more negative press for Jonah on the way.
