Interesting portrayal of Adam Lanza... I don't believe it is him... no similarity in my eyes... but would hope that somewhere down the road we get a better/more recent picture...

This is another media outlet reporting irresponsibly. Did they consider the victims of stalking or domestic violence that have obtained a firearm to protect themselves or haven't obtained a firearm? No, they cared only about the attention they would receive and not how they could endanger the public.

Lash I totally agree. There are so many agendas in play it is difficult to find a way to find out the truth and a solution that will decrease the number of incidents. Completely a case of Media looking for their share of $$ from the tragedy.

Ten gun bills on Congress's first day
By Pete Kasperowicz - 01/04/13 09:44 AM ET

"By disarming qualified citizens and officials in schools we have created a dangerous situation for our children," Stockman said. "In the 22 years before enactment of 'gun free school zones' there were two mass school shootings.

"In the 22 years since enactment of 'gun free schools' there have been 10 mass school shootings," he added. "Not only has the bill utterly failed to protect our children it appears to have placed them in danger."

Illinois Dems advance ban on most modern firearms

By Barnini Chakraborty | Published January 03, 2013

Snip - Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups.

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”

A Senate committee approved two bills, one dealing with the weapons and the other with magazines. Democratic supporters could face a tough sell in the full Senate.

One measure would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them but would have to register them. The bill would allow semiautomatic weapons to be used at shooting ranges, but those facilities would be regulated.

Snip - Those pushing for enhanced restrictions say stricter rules are needed in the wake of a string of high-profile mass shootings -- most recently the deadly school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn had been trying earlier this year to pass new legislation in the wake of the Colorado movie theater shooting, but lawmakers are taking another crack at it.

Chicago has a very high rate of homicides by gun.
Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in nation.
DC is close behind.
Not working.

Who obeys gun laws?
Not the criminals, that is for sure!

For the most part, the mass shootings have started since the advent of limiting gun ownership. The Texas Bell Tower shootings was in the 1960s. Then we went many, many years. After the Brady Bill, limiting gun ownership, and with the proliferation of street gangs, the mass shootings have slowly increased. For the most part, they have been disgruntled employees "going postal" at their own places of business. That did not involve school shootings (Colorado (Columbine), Virginia (Virginia Tech), Connecticut (Sandy Hook) or the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting. Nor the shootings in Wisconsin. (Wisconsin was the hunter shooting and Sikh shooting.)

These mass shootings are small per centage of the shootings.

Illinois Update -

Democrats pull plug on gun, ammo bans

January 04, 2013 5:00 am • Kurt Erickson

SPRINGFIELD — There’s not enough support in the Illinois Senate to impose tough new restrictions on semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

In a setback for gun-control advocates in the wake of the killings of school children in Connecticut, the Illinois Senate was poised to adjourn Thursday without voting on two pieces of legislation aimed at limiting access to certain kinds of weapons and bullets.

Although the two proposals could emerge again when the legislature reconvenes next week, the lack of action shows the General Assembly remains divided on how to balance Second Amendment issues.

A spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, offered no timetable for when the gun safety proposals might surface again.

Sandy Hook Shooter Adam Lanza Wore Earplug

By DAVE ALTIMARI and JON LENDER | January 6, 2013

Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza armed himself with hundreds of bullets on Dec. 14 before he entered the Newtown school. But he also did one more thing.

He put in a pair of earplugs.

Investigators don't know whether the earplugs are significant to their probe, but they have speculated as to whether Lanza used them because it was a habit from shooting at gun ranges, or to muffle children's screams during his shooting rampage.

It is one more strange detail left behind by the strange, rail-thin 20-year-old.

"It's just weird [that he popped in earplugs] given what he was about to go do," a source said. "It's not like he had to worry about long-term protection of his hearing because he had to know he wasn't coming back out of the building."

As police wrap up at least the crime-scene portion of their investigation into Lanza's murderous spree that left 26 people dead in the school, including 20 first-graders, the earplugs are not the only evidence that shows Lanza might have carried habits either from the shooting range or the virtual world of video games into his real-world massacre.

Lanza changed magazines frequently as he fired his way through the first-grade classrooms of Lauren Rousseau and Victoria Soto, sometimes shooting as few as 15 shots from a 30-round magazine, sources said.

More than a week after the shooting, investigators were still finding bullets under doors and in carpets and walls in the school as they tried to match the casings to the magazines.

Investigators are aware that frequent reloading is common in violent video games because an experienced player knows never to enter a new building or room without a full magazine so as not to risk running out of bullets. This has led them to speculate privately that this might be a reason that he replaced magazines frequently.

Lash= investigators will be educated quickly imo from experts as to this not being a mystery, children with Autism and most Asperger's Syndrome kids are hyper sensitive to loud noise of any kind. Adam was a high functioning kid w/AS, he knew to protect his ears from the noise.

In some of the more severe autism classes I have visited of little one's, 4, 5, or 6 yrs. old, the florescent tubing had to be removed because the humming we hardly hear, is magnified to them and hurting their ears, their response was to hold their hands over their ears until the tubing was removed. In some of the classes, the children couldn't be taken into a gym to bounce balls because the echo of the empty space and balls bouncing hurt their ears.

imo, violent video games possibly played a major role in the murder of those at SH, of course it is RARELY ever mentioned because it takes the focus off guns, but with a game called "kindergarten killers," and we know from Adam's aunt sharing information that Adam stayed in the basement playing violent video games all day long, why in the world would this NOT be discussed in the conversation of possible motives as well as anger at his mother for possibly moving from the home across country and the possible placement of Adam in a program that would possibly help him, the guardianship she was seeking so she could make positive decisions for Adam.

Gun show sees record turnout; vendors running out of merchandise

About 20,000 attended the opening day of the weekend-long Rocky Mountain Gun Show Saturday. Typically, this gun show draws about 17,000 people throughout the entire weekend.

People wanted to get their hands on guns, high-powered rifles and ammunition. Long lines and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds waited to get inside the Southtowne Expo Center.

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=23636218&nid=148&title=gun-show-sees-

There are countless articles about record breaking attendance records across the US.

I read several articles on Biden's committee this weekend stating that the one hour meeting between Eric Holder, Napalitano, and Sebulius, went one hour over, ahhh, a one hour meeting went one hour over. wtf, I wouldn't have shared that bit of embarrassing information.

In their suggestions, there was not ONE suggestion of how to make school's safer from the mentally ill that steal guns from those already owned by member's in society.
Their suggestions of making it harder to pass a background check at gun shows and controlling the sale/buying of guns at Gun Shows, etc., seemed to be imo, one of their talking points.

Guns are going to always be available to society imo because they are big $$$$$ and Obama knows that. Biden's committee thinks if they could get Walmart, Academy Sports, etc. on board to support their idea of limiting gun shows, that would force purchaser's into their stores to by guns, they would get the business.

The problem is, Nancy Lanzer bought her guns legally, Adam stole the guns criminally, while battling a multitude of mental problems and murdering with stolen guns. Biden DOESN'T address the safety of our schools from not only guns but home made bombs, etc. I'd be surprised if one single thing was implemented to protect schools as it is barely talked about.

Reason for staying armed:

Georgia mom hides children, shoots intruder 5 times in face

" When the suspect went into the closet where the family was hiding ,the woman fired six bullets at the suspect, five of which hit alleged suspect Paul Ali Slater in the face and neck area.

“He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ala. sheriff thinks Newtown massacre a factor in teen's alleged plot to bomb classmates

An Alabama teenager teen who described himself as a white supremacist made journal entries about a plot to bomb classmates three days after the Newtown school massacre and began building small homemade explosives, a sheriff said Monday.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor told The Associated Press that he believed the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary was a factor because the first date in the boy's journal describing the plan was Dec. 17 — three days after the Connecticut killings.

Seventeen-year-old Derek Shrout is charged with attempted assault after authorities say he planned to use homemade explosives to attack fellow students at Russell County High School.

Art - Thank you for the details on Aspergers and their hyper sensitivity to noise. That is interesting. I wonder how Adam reacted to the noise the first time he went to the shooting range with his mother? I'm sure they wore protective ear covering. However, the noise at a range can still be loud even with protective ear covering (particularly indoor ranges).

I'm even wondering if Adam's interest in video games that involved shooting is why his mother thought to bring Adam to a real life range. She was allegedly trying to work on his social skills. Maybe the range was an attempt to get Adam to socialize?

In my opinion, safety in our schools will not be provided by implementing new gun control. If the government takes guns from citizens with registered firearms it leaves hundreds of thousands of unregistered firearms in the hands of criminals. The same with magazines that hold 30 rounds. If law abiding citizens turn in their weapons it leaves the criminals with all the weapons. Criminals are not going to turn over their weapons. How do you get criminals who already have an illegal firearm to turn in their weapon, you don't...they won't. The politicians are not just going after fully automatic guns and the 30 mags. Illinois is already suggesting a semiautomatic ban.

Gun shows are very popular. They include booths with vendors who hold a federal firearms license. Some allow private citizens to obtain a booth. FFL vendors already complete the appropriate background checks at these gun shows. Private citizens, do not. Maybe private citizens should not be allowed, but it would not stop private citizens from selling or trading outside of a gun show. Prohibiting gun shows will not stop a criminal from robbing a homeowner and stealing a gun nor will it stop the illegal trade of guns from other countries.

Walmart and Hollywood are in the Democratic Parties pockets. Video games, music videos and movies are not going to be censored. It would hurt too many of our politicians wallets. BUT, Walmart is a different story. I do think we will see some type of legislation. This being Obama's second term affects the decisions he makes because they will not have an impact on a presidential re-election.

Lash - I fully agree with your thoughts, the thing is, some Politicians jumped on Sandy Hook as a spring board to promote some Legislation about guns, though NOTHING has been addressed or will be imo, on mental illness or the lack of any protection schools provide to the innocent. imo, it is just about impossible to do or predict what criminals or mentally ill persons are going to do with stolen guns.

I did many gun shows w/my dad, they are very popular, swapping/trading/buying/accessories/ammo and my parent's had a federal fire arms license for their store. My parent's owned a gun store that my mom ran and my dad would unload guns he usually took in as trades from customers in their store that wanted to trade up to a newer model gun etc.

I too agree, there will be some type of legislation though I don't know what, there are so many factors involved, lobbyist, $$$$$, Political influence, etc. that will effect the outcome. I too agree prohibiting gun shows will not stop the illegal trade of guns, criminals will always have guns, they will just steal them. I can't imagine law abiding citizen's are ever going to turn in their guns, the public is buying more guns for fear of regulation, some States are suggesting the public turn in their guns, even compensating some but I read that has been disbanded.

Vice President Joe Biden's plan to curb gun violence falls on deaf ears in meeting with National Rifle Association

BY DAN FRIEDMAN | UPDATED: THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2013, 11:23 PM

Snip - - -

The National Rifle Association came out firing Thursday after meeting with Vice President Biden on curbing gun violence, calling the sitdown worthless and vowing to thwart new gun laws in Congress.

The politically powerful lobbying group issued a scathing statement accusing the White House of waging war on the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms.

“While claiming that no policy proposals would be ‘prejudged,’ this task force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners — honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans,” the NRA said. “It is unfortunate that this administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen.”

Snip - - -

"We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack” the Second Amendment rights of Americans to own guns, the NRA fumed.

Biden announced earlier Thursday that he will recommend a package of proposed bills and executive orders aimed at stemming shootings to President Obama next Tuesday.

Republican critics of the White House effort suggested that timeline shows Thursday meetings are solely for show.

The Vice President suggested proposals would include requiring universal background checks, a step he said goes beyond closing the "gun show loophole."

He also cited a ban on high capacity magazines and a rollback on restrictions on federal agencies ability to research gun violence.

"There has got to be some common ground, to not solve every problem but diminish the probability" of future events like the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., Biden said. "The image of "little 6-year-olds riddled... with bullet holes in their class" has motivated Americans, he noted.

Those remarks came at the start of meeting with hunting and outdoors' groups, one of three Biden held with different groups Thursday. The meeting was interrupted by news of a school shooting in California.

The NRA, which did not mention the Thursday shooting in its statement, has called for putting more guns in schools to deter potential gunman, and for a variety of steps, with the exception of any restrictions on access to guns and ammunition.

Biden also met with entertainment industry heavies to discuss ways to combat onscreen violence.

Attorney General Eric Holder met with retailers, including Wal-Mart, the nation's top gun-seller.

The White House has signaled interest in working with Wal-Mart on gun-control, but the retailer, which said it would not even send a representative Thursday meeting before backing down, has signaled little interest.

A Wal-Mart spokeswoman said Thursday that the group was not commenting on the meeting.

In my opinion - Guns are not causing the violence in our country! It is the people who use them to commit the violence. A person must pull the trigger to fire the gun. A gun does not fire on its own.

Vice President Biden Meets with Groups to Discuss Violence Prevention

Colleen Curtis | January 10, 2013

Right now, Vice President Biden is leading an effort to develop a new set of policies to reduce gun violence and prevent tragedies like the shooting in Newtown Conn.

Yesterday, as part of that work, the Vice President met with victims’ groups and gun safety organizations at the White House.

Following those meetings, the Vice President held conference calls with governors of both parties, and state and local elected leaders from across the United States. The Vice President listened to the unique perspectives of all the participants, and solicited their ideas and input on how to curb gun violence in this country. During the call, Mr. Biden reiterated the Administration’s commitment to this urgent issue and stressed that the problem requires immediate action.

Today, Vice President Biden will hold meetings with advocates for sportsmen and women and gun ownership groups. He will meet with representatives of the entertainment and video game industries this week as well.

Cabinet officials and White House senior staff are joining the Vice President in this important initiative. Secretary Duncan is meeting with representatives from parent, teacher, and education groups, and Secretary Sebelius is convening mental health and disability advocates. Senior White House will continue to hold meetings with a variety of stakeholders including medical groups, community organizations, child and family advocates, business owners, faith leaders, and others.

Later this month, the Vice President will present his recommendations to the President, who will then announce a concrete package of proposals he intends to pursue without delay.

Man who helped Sandy Hook kids is harassed by conspiracy theorists

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | 3 hrs ago

A man who found six children in his driveway in Newtown, Conn., after their teacher had been shot and killed in last month's school massacre has become the target of conspiracy theorists who believe the shootings were staged.

“I don’t know what to do,” Gene Rosen told Salon.com. “I’m getting hang-up calls, I’m getting some calls, I’m getting emails with, not direct threats, but accusations that I’m lying, that I’m a crisis actor, ‘How much am I being paid?'”

Rosen, a 69-year-old retired psychologist who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School where the shootings took place, says his inbox is filled with emails like this one:

How are all those little students doing? You know, the ones that showed up at your house after the ‘shooting’. What is the going rate for getting involved in a gov’t sponsored hoax anyway?

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -
Chesterfield County trained almost 100 volunteers Wednesday night on what to do in an active shooter situation.

The volunteers are already trained to help folks in a fire, during a robbery and now they know how to react or help if a shooter enters a Chesterfield office or school.

"You never think it can happen to you but it's happened too many times," said Anthony Squires. He's in charge of his neighborhood watch.

Teachers Line Up for Safety Training Classes, Janitors Get Guns

JANUARY 11, 2013 | 4:43 PM | BY IDA LIESZKOVSZKY

Last month’s school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School put teachers, principals, and other school staff on high alert. It also raised the question of how to prevent school shootings. Training school personel is at the top of the list of proposed solutions.

In Ohio, teachers who want training in how to deal with a school shooting have several options these days.

They can learn to shoot guns with the Buckeye Firearms Association, or they can opt for a gun-free training program courtesy of the Ohio Attorney General.

The firearms training has been so popular more than 1,000 teachers and other school personel have applied for just 24 spots, including teachers from out of state. And the gun-free safety training has had to add extra training dates.

Hundreds of Ohio teachers sign up for free firearms training

7:24 PM, Jan 2, 2013

Should teachers be armed inside the classroom? It's a debate that's been going on for years, but now ignited by the tragic school shootings in Connecticut.

The idea of arming teachers is hitting closer to home, as hundreds of Ohio teachers sign up for free firearm training courses. The Buckeye Firearms Association near Columbus announced last week, they'd offer free firearms training to teachers and administrators.

Within 10 days, they say more than 600 people applied and the number of applicants is growing. The courses are being offered for free, here in Ohio and in several other states.

In a statement to Channel 3, the Buckeye Firearms Association lawyer said the training is essential "because it gives them an option other than staying in place and hoping the gunman doesn't come into their classroom"

In Ohio, the law prohibits teachers and staff to carry guns in school. The only way around it is if the school board approves it.

Re: NEWTOWN CONN. SCHOOL SHOOTING

I've been reading some of these theories and watching some of the youtubes. I've been to sites Shocked that afterwards, I felt the need to clear my cookies & browsing history! I think the theories are insensitive to the families who lost loved ones, but I also think the initial reports that the media gave, a lot of which were later changed/corrected are to blame for people having so many questions on this tragedy now. Anyway, several things did stick out at me.
Supposedly the school had just recently installed a video surveillance system, and it just seems weird that they haven't released any portion of it. And I DON'T mean the actual shootings! I wouldn't want to see that at all! But you'd think they would at least release (to explain) the part where/how he actually gains access into the school. Or at the very least a still shot of him walking toward the door.
And as much media as was there that day, nowhere do we see more than that one small group of kids coming out of the school.
And that one girl who survived by playing dead, according to her pastor, she was the first child to run out of the school, and right into her mother's arms, where she tells her that she's ok, but all of her friends are dead. (I hope none of her classmates' parents were standing right next to her mom!) Where's the video or still shot of the girl running out, and reuniting with her mom?
So browsing these other sites caused me to come up with a few questions of my own, not conspiracies though.
I wish they would release whatever evidence they have sealed for 90 days so that maybe some of these questions would be answered and some of those theories can be laid to rest.

Julie - In my opinion, a lot of the details of this tragedy will be withheld from the public. Sadly, not for the sensitivity of the victims, but because this tragedy is being used by politicians to pass legislation.

Read President Obama's New, Proposed Executive Orders and Legislation on Guns

By David Weigel | Posted Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013

President Obama signs a series of executive orders about the administration's new gun law proposals as Vice President Biden and children who wrote letters to the White House about gun violence look on, on Wednesday in Washington, DC.

Here's the list, via the White House.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal
investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

And these are the legislative ideas -- i.e., the ones the president wants to push through Congress, starting with the more pliable Senate.

Require criminal background checks for all gun sales. (a.k.a. closing the "gun show loophole.")

Reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban.

Restore the 10-round limit on ammunition magazines.

Protect police by finishing the job of getting rid of armor-piercing bullets.

Give law enforcement additional tools to prevent and prosecute gun crime.

End the freeze on gun violence research.

Make our schools safer with more school resource officers and school counselors, safer climates, and better emergency response plans.

Help ensure that young people get the mental health treatment they need.

Ensure health insurance plans cover mental health benefits.

Discussing this with some others and here is what we thought:

Why not hire vets for our teachers?

These soldiers have patience, are able to make fast decisions, able to take directions without questioning the authorities, have military bearing and safety training which encompasses gun safety/ accuracy, etc.. Further, they are already trained and they are comfortable wearing sidearms.

I have long been a proponent of hiring more men in ALL the grades as their simply is not enough male influence for male modeling. Could be a healthy benefit for the school and the community.

Lash, sadly you're probably right. It's just too bad that the media screwed up with so many details as the news of this was coming out.

I'm not sure many vets would want to go get their teaching degrees.

I think the kids would be more comfortable with the young, maternal, female teacher in the classroom. I think I'm more comfortable with that too.

I might not mind a licensed, qualified, trained, background checked vet standing guard in the office though.

Re: NEWTOWN CONN. SCHOOL SHOOTING

Post by Julie on Thu Jan 17, 2013 3:50 pm

Unfortunately much confusion was born out of the media's enthusiasm to be the first to report this tragedy, which many of their inital reports were wrong, and later changed.

The people in Newtown have my deepest sympathies, for the loss of their loved ones, and for the chaos which is following such a horrific event.

There were many wrong reports. Let me see how many I can remember, based on the many threads and comments I've read lately. These were some of their initial reports / the follow ups that were provided:

His mom was a kindergarten teacher/ no, she wasn't.

He killed his mom at school/ it was at home.

His mom was a volunteer or teacher's aide / no she wasn't.

He shot the kindergarten class / it was first grade.

His girlfriend was unaccounted for, missing / he didn't have a girlfriend.

Shooter was Ryan / it was Adam.

One gunman dead, another one in the woods, (some sources hinted around to a 3rd shooter) / just one shooter - he's dead, the one in the woods wasn't a shooter - he was a dad coming to make gingerbread houses, not sure what was ever explained about the possible third guy.

Shooter had an altercation with the office the day before / no, he didn't.

He was wearing a mask / he wasn't wearing a mask.

He was buzzed in because the office recognized him / he shot his way in.

Number and types of weapons are still a question.

The Newtown Bee newspaper ran an article saying that Principal Hochsprung gave them an interview of what happened in the school / they retracted the story because it couldn't have been her, and they gave no explanation of who they talked to.

A name was given on the police scanner in response to the car's license plates / later explained that it was cross scanner traffic from another town.

According to some people, on the police scanner recordings, you hear someone say "Take the life of Adam". (I listened and it does sound like "life of Adam". So who said it and why?) / No official follow up explanation to this one.

According to one site, they can hear on the scanner recordings, (I did not listen to this one), LE saying twice that there were 18 victims in the school kitchen closet. / No follow up to this one either that I know of.

Whose facebook photo was that with his name? /They said he didn't have a FB.

They said they found "very good evidence" in the car and the home / they said shooter destroyed his computer, probably beyond being able to get any evidence from it.

So, putting aside the actual conspiracy theories floating around out there, there are still many, what I would consider, valid questions / missing details that it would be nice if someone in authority would clear up. How the heck did reporting on this awful tragedy get so messed up? Who were the people who gave the media some of these inital reports, and what was the basis for what they told them?

Bottom line......what is the official report?

I saw the headline, but didn't read the article, that in the Steubenville rape case, they set up a website to address the facts of the case. Maybe that's what they should do with this case.

Again, my deepest sympathies & condolences go out to the families of Newtown. I hate that they went through such an awful, unbelievable event.

Police deny that Lanza first visited high school

John Pirro

Published 10:10 pm, Thursday, January 3, 2013

snipped:

Rumors have persisted since shortly after the shootings that the 20-year-old gunman drove his black, 2010 Honda Civic to the high school sometime after 9 a.m., but left after seeing a police cruiser outside the building. The speculation has been widely fanned on the Internet in recent days.

"It's a rumor," said state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance. "There's no truth to it whatsoever that we have been made aware of."

Vance said a number of news reporters have asked him if Lanza had first gone to the high school, but investigators had no information indicating it was accurate.

"I've heard it from other reporters," Vance said, "but not from any of our people."

Families briefed on Sandy Hook shootings probe

State Police: Victims' families told little about gunman's mental state

Dirk Perrefort and John Pirro

Published 9:45 pm, Thursday, January 17, 2013

NEWTOWN -- State Police updated the families of the Sandy Hook shooting on the status of its investigation this week, but one parent expressed dismay afterward that authorities have declined to share information about what they know about the mental state of gunman Adam Lanza.

In the meantime, investigators have found it difficult to track down people who knew Lanza and could have insight into what provoked his murderous rampage, one law enforcement source said. The 20-year-old has been depicted as painfully shy and socially awkward by classmates and others who said they knew him.

"This individual was extremely isolated," said the official, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the investigation.

The briefing at Edmond Town Hall on Tuesday night lasted for about three hours. State Police and command staff were there, as well as mental health professionals. Some of the update focused on what authorities now believe happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School the morning of Dec. 14.

snipped:

Early in their investigation, State Police found a wealth of gaming material at the home Lanza shared with his mother, Nancy. Investigators have focused much of their probe on this area.

Records of the Internet service provider for the Lanza home on Yogananda Street have been subpoenaed, as authorities attempt to backtrack and find gaming websites or chatrooms visited by Adam Lanza.

Authorities also are attempting to reconstruct computer hard drives that Lanza attempted to destroy before or on the day of the shootings. That effort is proving arduous and may take months if not longer, the law enforcement source said.

Angela Carella: Grieving mothers who wanted the world to 'know the ugliness'

Updated 10:15 pm, Thursday, January 17, 2013

Five weeks after the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a remarkable story is emerging.

A journalist for the Jewish Daily Forward has reported that the mother of one of the slain children asked Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to view her son's body.

Veronique Pozner wanted Malloy to see what the bullets did to Noah, who was barely 6, the youngest Newtown victim.

snipped:

"I want people to know the ugliness of it so we don't talk about it abstractly, like these little angels just went to heaven," Pozner said. "No. They were butchered. They were brutalized."

Poll: Americans Angrier About Sandy Hook Shooting Than 9/11 Attacks

By By TOM RAUM and JENNIFER AGIESTA, Associated Press

January 16, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans were angrier about last month's horrific school shooting in Connecticut than they were about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

And more favor stricter gun laws now than did shortly after the shooting deaths of 32 people on the campus of Virginia Tech in April 2007.

Three-quarters of Americans said they reacted to the Connecticut massacre of with deep anger, higher than the 65 percent who said they felt that way in a poll from NORC at the University of Chicago after the 9/11 attacks. A majority, 54 percent, said they felt deeply ashamed that an event like Newtown could happen in the United States, well above the 40 percent who said they felt that way in the wake of the disaster that followed Hurricane Katrina and 35 percent who felt that way after the shootings at Virginia Tech.

Somewhere between December 14th and now, I realized I was having similar feelings as after 9/11. Life after both events would be very different, and we'd never be able to go back to life the way it was before both events.

I think 12/14 impacted me even more than 9/11, because I don't HAVE to get on an airplane. But my kids, my babies, HAVE to go to school, daily, and I'm the one sending them.

One of my sons actually cried and said he was afraid to go to school. I told him to ask Jesus to go with him to school everyday, and to stay with him at school. I told him Jesus would be sitting right there in the classroom next to him.

My opinion, heck with the people who don't want God in the schools. My sons and I asked Jesus to be with them in school, and to keep them and their school safe, and I believe that is exactly what He is going to do. Just because people don't want God in the schools, doesn't mean that He's not there.

7-Year-Old Takes Gun to Queens School

By WENDY RUDERMAN and CHRISTOPHER MAAG

Published: January 17, 2013

A handgun was found in the backpack of a 7-year-old student at a public elementary school in Queens on Thursday morning, New York City officials said, leading to a tense few hours as the school was placed on lockdown while the police made sure there was no danger.

snipped:

Earlier in the day, students at Wave Preparatory described a nervous few hours that began when the principal went on the intercom to say that the school was being locked down and that they were to remain in their classrooms.

snipped:

“I thought we were going to get killed,” said an 11-year-old in fifth grade. “We went to the back of the classroom. I hid with my friend behind some computers.”

snipped:

an 8-year-old third grader, said he hid under his teacher’s desk after the principal announced the lockdown.

snipped:

“They made us turn off the lights and hide behind the teacher’s desk. I almost cried. I was afraid we were going to get shot.”

Why not check the GPS so as to assure the people?
IMO, this is a rumor but the people NEED to be assured.
I hurt for the people of this community. It is terrible to live with such fears and speculations after all they have suffered and still hurting with. Sad

I agree, it's probably a rumor, but they really should clear some of these things up.

I feel really bad for them too. They've been through so much already, and then they have to deal with all of this too.

I've shot guns and the one time my earbuds were out, my head was ringing from the reverberation- it took me several moments to recollect myself and re-focus. It further goes to show how determined he was - he was an experienced shooter and knew the effects on concentration when the shots are not muffled.

Julie - I am sorry your son was afraid to go to school. I can't even imagine how the kids that survived this massacre felt going back to school or how their parents must have felt having to send them back.

Maybe more schools should upgrade their security systems too.

Companies donate security services to school where Newtown students were moved

Marino said he has since collected hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of equipment and other services. It's been enough to outfit the Monroe school with technology ranging from an intrusion detection system to a panic alarm, as well as to fully equip Newtown's five other schools.

"There has been an enormous outpouring of donations to beef up security," said Newtown Board of Education member Richard Gaines, calling Marino's effort to coordinate everything "incredibly generous."

Marino estimates the security upgrades at just the Monroe school are worth $113,000. He expects the upgrades at the other schools could be worth about the same amount.

"I feel obligated to try to do the best we can," he said, adding how no security system is foolproof. "I think if you can save a few lives, it's worth it."

Angela Carella: Grieving mothers who wanted the world to 'know the ugliness'

Published 5:37 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2013

Veronique Pozner

Five weeks after the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a remarkable story is emerging.

A journalist for the Jewish Daily Forward has reported that the mother of one of the slain children asked Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to view her son's body.

Veronique Pozner wanted Malloy to see what the bullets did to Noah, who was barely 6, the youngest Newtown victim.

In the casket, Noah's eyes were closed, his long lashes resting on his cheeks, Naomi Zeveloff reported in the Forward. The bottom half of his face was covered by a cloth. "There was no mouth left," Veronique Pozner told the newspaper. "His jaw was blown away."

In Noah's right hand she placed a clear stone with a white angel inside. She wanted to place one in his left hand, too, but that hand was gone.

Zeveloff asked Pozner why she wanted Malloy to see the damage. "I needed it to have a face for him," Pozner said. "If there is ever a piece of legislation that comes across his desk, I needed it to be real for him."

So at the Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home in Fairfield on Dec. 17, just before the start of Noah's service, Pozner took Malloy by the arm and led him to her son's open casket.

Officials: NM teen gunman kills 5 inside home

Updated 12:56 pm, Sunday, January 20, 2013

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A teenage boy fatally shot two adults and three children inside an Albuquerque home, authorities said Sunday.

The boy was arrested and booked on murder and other charges in connection with the shootings Saturday night, Bernalillo County sheriff's spokesman Aaron Williamson said.

The victims' identities haven't been released, and the boy's motive and connection to the five victims weren't immediately unknown. Williamson said investigators were trying to determine if the victims were related.

Investigators also were seeking to determine who owned several guns that were found at the home, one of which was a semi-automatic military-style rifle.

Sponsors Of Assault Weapons Ban Hope Newtown Shooting Changes Minds

CARRIE JOHNSON | January 25, 2013 2:49 AM

---Snip

Congressional Democrats appeared on Capitol Hill Thursday to push for a new ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

The bill's author, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, started her remarks with a roster of tragedy: "Columbine. Virginia Tech. Aurora. Tucson. Oak Creek. The common thread in these shootings is each gunman used a semiautomatic assault weapon or large-capacity ammunition magazine."

Her new proposal tries to do something about both. First, the bill would ban the sale or import of about 150 types of "military style" assault weapons, including the ones shooters used in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo. Second, the bill would prohibit ammunition-feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds.

And unlike a 1994 ban that expired after a decade, this proposal would have no sunset.

The proposal also includes a carve-out for 2,200 kinds of rifles used by hunters and sportsmen.

In Connecticut this week, Lt. Paul Vance told NPR that state police are preparing a huge report — hundreds of pages — on what happened and why. That report won't be released before June, and it could include redactions to cover birth dates and medical histories, for privacy reasons.

There are still plenty of investigative steps under way. For instance, the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., is still trying to rebuild and recover information from a hard drive Lanza smashed. And the medical examiner is doing some more work, perhaps toxicology tests and studies of Lanza's last meal, to see if they offer clues about his whereabouts in the day before the attack.

Lanza's mother, Nancy, who was shot in her bed the morning of Dec. 14, legally owned all the weapons her son used, including the Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle he used to shoot all of the victims in the Sandy Hook school. But it's not clear Nancy Lanza took lots of precautions to keep the weapons away from her son, who had been known to shoot them at local firing ranges, two sources told NPR. Nancy Lanza had no ties to the elementary school, despite early reporting to the contrary, state police say.

Feinstein said the American people need to speak up and lean on Congress.

That's why gun control advocates told NPR they're planning to bring families from Newtown to Washington next month to lobby on the same day as President Obama's State of the Union address.

Sandy Hook’s horror
hit close for Rep. Frey

By Macklin K. Reid on January 30, 2013

snipped:

“It’s definitely been changed,” Mr. Frey said. “I have two nieces and one nephew who attended Sandy Hook School. Dec. 13th, I attended the Sandy Hook Elementary holiday concert. My two nieces are in the chorus.

“And to think back, you know, the next day, the 14th, after the tragedy occurred, I couldn’t get the image off my mind. Here you had all these families, happy and video-taping and taking pictures,” he said. “Their world came crashing down.”

snipped:

The school where Mr. Frey saw his nieces singing in the Christmas concert isn’t a place he’s returned to.

“I haven’t been in the Sandy Hook School, but I know people who have —it’s been a life changing event for them,” Mr. Frey said.

“Even with the victims no longer in the school, I’m told, the damage in the walls, the ceiling…”
