Cobb police: Much has changed about toddler’s death

Posted: 3:32 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014

The death of 22-month old Cooper Harris is not as simple as another kid being left in a hot car. Or at least that’s what Cobb County police are hinting at as their investigation continues.

~Snipped~

The emotional response is growing, and defense attorneys are weighing in about the death the child’s father called an accident.

“It seems like it's a rush to judgment in this situation. I think a lot more evidence could be developed before inflicting this on the family,” said defense attorney Kim Keheley Frye.

But Cobb County police say there was no rush in their investigation.

~Snipped~

Harris' bond hearing is set for 25 days from now on July 15.

The autopsy results may not arrive until next week.

Father Charged With Felony Murder in Son's Heat-Stroke Vehicle Death

ABCNews STEVE OSUNSAMI

Monday, June 23, 2014

A Georgia father has been charged with felony murder in the death of his 22-month-old son after the boy was left inside a mini-SUV for hours on a sweltering day.

The man's family claims it was an honest and tragic mistake. But police disagree - and Justin Ross Harris, 33, now faces heightened charges in Cooper's heat stroke death, a case that has drawn outrage from people who believe the man has already suffered enough.

~Snipped~

After searching Harris's office, police arrested the grieving father and charged him with felony murder and child endangerment.

~Snipped~

Cooper's death marked the second vehicle heat stroke death involving a child last week. A Florida man, Steven Lillie, faces aggravated manslaughter charges in the June 16 death of his 9-month-old daughter, Anna Marie.

In Harris' case, police feel strongly about the murder charge, ABC's Chief Legal Affairs Anchor Dan Abrams said.

"We don't know exactly what evidence they have, but they've executed a search warrant. And it's not uncommon for computer-related searches to yield information," Abrams said. "Whatever the evidence is, the authorities believed it warranted bringing charges very quickly."

Problems with the father telling first witnesses the child was supposedly choking when the child was already long dead....

" ...Eyewitness Edward Cockerham, 49, told MailOnline: ‘I was interviewed by the police last night and I told them I thought the guy was acting, he was really over-reacting to the situation.

'I know he had lost his baby but he was acting up more than he should have been. It seemed like acting to me. When he pulled in and people started asking him what had happened, he said that the baby had just started choking.

‘But the baby didn’t look like it had been choking, it looked like it had been sweating, like it had been in a swimming pool, his hair was all wet....."

" ... Artiyka also believes the baby had been dead for many hours before Harris pulled the child out of the car.

‘The baby was a grey/blue color, not its natural color. I know he was in the car seat but when the dad placed him on the ground his legs stayed in the same sitting position, as if he was laying on the ground with his knees up in the air stiff. It wasn’t natural....."

COOPER HARRIS CASE

Georgia man searched Internet for time it takes animals to die in hot car in days before toddler died in overheated SUV: report

An updated arrest warrant shows Justin Harris took his 22-month-old son, Cooper, to breakfast shortly before the little boy was left to die in a hot SUV. The warrant also indicates that Harris — who claimed he mistakenly left the child in the car after forgetting to drop him off at day care — went inside his SUV at least one other time during the day. He also searched his work computer for information on animals dying in hot cars.

A Georgia man searched the Internet for information on how long it takes an animal to die in a hot car in the days before his 22-month-old son died from overheating in a hot SUV, according to a report Wednesday.

Justin Harris, 33, took little Cooper to eat at a Chick-fil-A on his way to the Home Depot corporate office building where he worked in Cobb County the morning of June 18, according to an updated arrest warrant obtained by WAGA-TV in Atlanta.

Warrant: Man Returned to Hot SUV With Son Inside

MARIETTA, Ga. — Jun 25, 2014, 10:44 AM ET
By KATE BRUMBACK Associated Press

~Snipped~

Cobb County Police Chief John Houser said Wednesday that he understands tragic accidents happen, but evidence indicates a "more serious crime" has been committed. He didn't elaborate on what the evidence was.

"The chain of events that occurred in this case do not point toward simple negligence and evidence will be presented to support this allegation," Houser said in a message released by the department.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday that toxicology results are still pending but that it believes the cause of death was hyperthermia and the manner of death was homicide. Hyperthermia is a condition in which the temperature of the body spikes due to the heat.

The new warrant filed late Tuesday also downgrades one charge against Harris from first-degree child cruelty to second-degree child cruelty. First-degree cruelty to children requires that a person "willfully deprives the child necessary sustenance," while second-degree cruelty to children is caused by "criminal negligence" under Georgia law.

Apparently, these two think birth control is killing their children...

Murderers: Krissy Lynn Werntz and Jason Michael Hann.

" ... After police found the body of the first child, they found the body of their two month old son in a different storage unit located in Arizona. Police believe the baby died in Vermont and that Werntz and Hann, 39, trekked around the country with the remains in a plastic bin before renting the Arizona unit, Riverside County prosecutors said this week...."

" ....During the investigation, authorities also found the couple's third child, a 1-month-old boy, alive but suffering from a dozen broken ribs and retinal hemorrhaging -- signs of child abuse...."

Carly Scott Murder: Police Reclassify Missing Hawaii Woman's Case As Homicide

The Huffington Post | By Carla Herreria
Posted: 03/13/2014 2:04 pm EDT Updated: 03/13/2014 2:59 pm EDT

Carly "Charli" Scott, a pregnant woman who went missing on the Hawaiian island of Maui, is now being considered a murder victim by the Maui Police Department.

On March 7, MPD released the following statement:

The Missing Persons case involving Carly J. Scott has been re-classified as a "Homicide Investigation" by the Maui Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division. The family has been notified of the change in classification.

As the investigation is active and on-going, no further information will be released at this time.

The 27 year old reportedly went missing the night of Feb. 9, after helping her ex-boyfriend and the father of her unborn baby, Steven Capobianco, pull his car out of an area off the Hana Highway. Her mother filed a missing persons report the following day.

Days later, Scott's SUV was found stripped, turned over and torched at a remote surf spot known as "Jaws" in Peahi. During the initial investigation, several items identified as Scott's were also discovered, including a blanket and clothing, which Maui News Now reports, were located around 25 to 30 miles apart.

Mother and daughter saved from carjacking by strangers

A woman and her young daughter are safe this morning after strangers stopped a carjacking in San Diego, CBS News correspondent Bigad Shaban reports.

A carjacker broke into the driver's seat of their minivan and took the keys while the mother and daughter were still in the vehicle, but a group of bystanders jumped in to stop him.

Aaron Leaf shot it all on his cell phone.

"I see a guy in the backseat choking out the driver," Leaf said. "And there were a couple other people at the window that were grabbing the keys from him."

Seconds later, Ismael Hernandez was dragged from the vehicle and wrestled to the pavement.

"Get your ass down, get down," one of the good Samaritans yelled.

Intimate partner homicide, the media and the Baden-Clay case (Video)

July 16, 2014 - 12:05PM

Terry Goldsworthy

When Brisbane man Gerard Baden-Clay rang police to report his wife Allison missing on April 20, 2012, he set in motion a series of events that would lead to his arrest, trial and ultimately his conviction for her murder. He has been sentenced to life in prison.

But why did this particular domestic homicide case grab the attention of the media and the public? What made it different from the many other domestic homicides that occur? And how prevalent is intimate partner homicide in Australia?

Intimate partner homicide in Australia

Allison Baden-Clay. Photo: Queensland Times

In 2013, the National Homicide Monitoring program released data that showed that 36% (or 185) of all homicides in Australia between 2008 and 2010 were domestic-related.

Of those, 66% (122) were classified as being committed by an intimate partner. However, there has been a 16% decrease in domestic homicides since 2007-08. Unsurprisingly, 143 domestic homicides took place in a residential setting, most often the victim’s home.

The most common causes of death in domestic homicides were stab wounds (43%), beatings (36%), gunshot wounds (10%) and strangulation (9%). Of interest are the motives present in domestic homicides. In 49% of domestic homicides a domestic argument was the apparent motive. Other motives, to a far lesser extent, are jealousy (2%), money (1%) and termination of the relationship (5%).

Brisbane man Gerard Baden-Clay has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Allison, and sentenced to life in prison.

A Brisbane supreme court jury delivered the unanimous verdict just before noon on Tuesday, after deliberating for about 21 hours. The decision came on the 21st day of Baden-Clay's trial.

Baden-Clay clenched his jaw and closed his eyes as he learned his fate. A cheer from Allison's family erupted as the verdict was delivered.

Gerard Baden-Clay appeal likely: legal expert

Wife killer Gerard Baden-Clay will almost certainly appeal his conviction and sentence, a Queensland criminal law expert says.

Professor Heather Douglas from the University of Queensland says Baden-Clay's legal team will be poring over transcripts of his 21-day trial to find grounds for an appeal.

Baden-Clay has 30 days to lodge an appeal, or apply for grounds to seek an extension of time to lodge an appeal, following his life sentence on Tuesday for the murder of his wife Allison in 2012.

THE LISA TECHEL CASE

Iowa man convicted of killing pregnant wife

Published July 24, 2014  .  Associated Press

DAVENPORT, Iowa –  Jurors convicted an Iowa man Thursday of killing his pregnant wife after his third time on trial, rejecting his claims that an unknown intruder shot her while he was in the shower.

The jury found 23-year-old Seth Techel guilty of first-degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy. The former volunteer firefighter who once hoped for a long career in law enforcement now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

~Snipped~

Techel displayed no apparent emotion at the verdict, though his parents and grandfather hung their heads in the first row of the courtroom. Lisa Techel's father, sheriff's deputy Todd Caldwell, wiped away tears after all 12 jurors said they agreed with the guilty verdicts.

Techel is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 15.

~Snipped~

Jurors at two previous trials last year in Ottumwa and Mount Pleasant had been unable to reach a verdict. The third trial was moved to the Scott County Courthouse in Davenport, where relatives of the defendant and victim often packed the courtroom during the nine-day proceeding. Jurors this time deliberated about four hours over two days

USC students walk by blood on the sidewalk on Orchard Avenue between 29th and 30th streets near USC after an attack that killed a graduate student.

Four teenagers were arrested in Thursday's deadly attack on a USC graduate student as he walked home from a study group, with police saying the incident was one of at least two robberies the group attempted that day..

Xinran Ji, a 24-year-old graduate student from China, was allegedly hit on the head with a baseball bat by at least one of the suspects, according to two law enforcement sources. Detectives are probing whether other weapons were also used, the sources said. The suspects range in age from 16 to 19.

"He was literally beaten to death," said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith. "I don't know why a group of young people would go on a crime spree as terrible as this."

Despite his injury, Ji managed to make it back to his 30th Street apartment, where his body was found around 7 a.m. by a roommate. Detectives followed a bloody trail from his home to where they believe he was attacked, near 29th Street and Orchard Avenue.

Australian parents of Thai surrogate twin say they feared losing both babies

Reuters   2 hours ago

SYDNEY (Reuters) - The Australian biological parents of twins caught up in a surrogacy scandal in Thailand wanted both babies but the surrogate mother threatened to involve the police and they feared she would keep both children, they said on Sunday.

David and Wendy Farnell were speaking publicly for the first time since the story broke more than a week ago of 7-month-old baby Gammy, who has Down's syndrome and is being cared for by his surrogate mother in Thailand.

The couple told Australian television they felt they had little choice but to leave Thailand with Gammy's healthy sister.

"We wanted to bring him with us," David Farnell, 56, told the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes program.

~Snipped~

The case has drawn international attention to the lack of regulation of international surrogacy and sparked calls in Australia for an overhaul of laws to cut the number of couples traveling abroad for surrogates.

Public outrage intensified last week when it became known that David Farnell was jailed in 1997 for sex offences involving three girls aged under 13.

"I have been convicted of child sex offences and I hang my head in shame for that," he told 60 Minutes, adding that he had reformed and was no longer a risk to children.

As commercial surrogacy is outlawed in Australia many couples turn to clinics in Thailand and India.

(In my opinion, they are lying, they didn't want the little boy because he has down syndrome and he also has a very serious heart condition. I hope the little boy can remain with the surrogate mother, she has been taking care of him and seems to really care.)

I have been following this too, AD.
I agree with your observations.
I was appalled to read of his convictions.
IMO, he wanted a child at hand.... his own.

" ... ..... The Farnells said they were angry that the agency had not told them about the boy's condition until too late in the pregnancy to safely abort.

They said they want the baby. ....."

Seems they are only interested now due to the negative publicity.
Maybe, the worst fears are now there.... they have to be in violation of surrogacy laws in at least Australia. And the negative publicity of his sex crimes have exposed him.

Baby Gammy’s parents, David and Wendy Farnell, win no fans after 60 Minutes interview (Video)

STAFF WRITERS and WIRES  •  News Corp Australia Network  •  August 11, 2014 10:43AM

SOCIAL media has fired up with criticism of the biological parents of baby Gammy, following their interview with 60 Minutes, which aired last night.

The interview with convicted child sex offender David Farnell and his wife Wendy did not do the couple any favours with many Australians expressing outrage and disgust at their decision to leave baby Gammy behind.

During the interview with Tara Brown the Farnells said they did not abandon baby Gammy because the newborn had Down syndrome.

Baby Gammy: Australian David Farnell says twin sister '100 per cent safe' despite child sex convictions

Updated 11 August 2014, 11:13 AEST

The convicted child sex offender at the centre of an international surrogacy controversy says baby Gammy's twin sister will be "100 per cent" safe in his care.

~Snipped~

The West Australian couple brought Gammy's healthy twin sister home from Thailand, but deny abandoning the boy.

Amid a furore over the case it was revealed Mr Farnell had 22 child sex convictions, including unlawful and indecent dealing with girls as young as seven when he was in his 20s.

~Snipped~

Western Australia's Department for Child Protection has launched an investigation into the safety of Gammy's seven-month-old sister.

"She will be 100 per cent safe because I know I would do everything in the world to protect my little girl," Mr Farnell said, when asked if he could guarantee the safety of Gammy's twin.

"I can understand why people would be concerned. But honestly ... I'm not going to harm my little girl."

Anna Nicole Smith:
Estate of her late husband, J. Howard Marshall

" ...A federal judge has ended the last chance for Dannielynn Birkhead — better known as the daughter of Anna Nicole Smith — to collect tens of millions of dollars from the estate of E. Pierce Marshall, the son of Anna Nicole’s billionaire husband, J. Howard Marshall II. ..."

" .... Carter noted he was “one of the few remaining observers still alive” after nearly 20 years of litigation, which included a precedent-setting ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court, and he said the record shows Marshall and his lawyers had “a distinct disinterest in rules or ethics.” But Birkhead’s lawyers failed to provide sufficient evidence of actual damages for him to award sanctions, the judge said....."

“....All of us who knew Pierce wish he was here with us to see the outcome of this case,” said G. Eric Brunstad, Jr., a Dechert partner and attorney for the Marshall family. “Pierce was a conscientious and honest man of great integrity. The family is in complete agreement with Judge Carter that it is time to put an end to this litigation.....”

" ....Pierce died in 2006. His estate is still tangled in a dispute with the Internal Revenue Service over more than $100 million in taxes the government says it is owed because of questionable estate-planning moves. That case, too, involves a potentially precedent-setting question of whether the heirs can be forced to pay tax penalties that J. Howard incurred by making excessive gifts during his lifetime, which had the effect of making him insolvent....."

" ... ...."Time spent litigating the relationship between Vickie Lynn and J. Howard has extended for nearly five times the length of their relationship and nearly twenty times the length of their marriage. It is neither reasonable nor practical to go forward," the judge said in his ruling. He noted that it was the last surviving piece of decades of litigation.

"The American taxpayer has supported the burden of this litigation for many years, and it is time for this suit to no longer 'drag its weary length before the Court,'" Carter concluded, quoting a Supreme Court decision in the case that itself quoted Charles Dickens' "Bleak House."

She mentions Scared Monkeys site, Cyril Wecht (who she has written books with) and Ann Rule...
She talked of several cases including the Jessica Lunds for case of Florida. The little girl buried alive; has Jessica's law named for her.
She also discussed Natalie Holloway, the "willing victim", JonBenet case, etc. Bunch of evidence most of us are not aware of.

Joran van der Sloot goes on hunger strike to protest prison switch

Published August 27, 2014   ·  FoxNews.com

January 13, 2012: Dutch citizen Joran Van der Sloot walks inside the courtroom during the reading of his verdict, in the Lurigancho prison in Lima.Reuters

Joran van der Sloot -- the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway – has gone on a hunger strike to protest his transfer to a maximum security jail in Peru.

Peruvian prison spokeswoman Janeth Sanchez told The Associated Press that the 27-year-old Dutchman was moved Sunday to Challapalca, located high in the Andes near the Bolivian border. He previously was held at a prison north of Lima.

Authorities said van der Sloot -- who is serving a 28-year term for murdering Stephany Flores in 2010 -- was moved because he threatened to kill the warden of the Piedras Gordas prison, where he was imprisoned.

~Snipped~

Guards at Piedras Gordas said van der Sloot became agitated after they took away a mobile phone that he smuggled into his cell, but van der Sloot claims the warden gave him the device as “a set-up.”

Going to share this in its entirety as I feel it would cheapen it to shorten it. Please go to the fb link to see the injuries this child had.:

AVALYNN OQUENDO
Mississippi

~Let Your Light Shine~ with Lynne Oquendo

On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, Lacey Harris was called go come pick up her daughter at Arlington Elementary School in Pascagoula, Mississippi, because AvaLynn had been injured in an accident. The sight Lacey found when she got to Ava's school was a parents' nightmare: her face swollen, cut, and bruised beyond recognition.

Lacey rushed Ava to the family pediatrician, who burst into tears upon seeing the Ava's battered visage. Fortunately, the doctor determined that it is unlikely that Ava would have any permanent physical damage. Mental and emotional damage is another story altogether.

AvaLynn informed Lacey that she was assaulted by another student: that she was kicked repeatedly in the face until she fell off of the slide on the school's playground. The school informed Lacey were no teachers present when the incident occurred, and because of that, no one could prove whether or not another student had harmed Ava.

After days of Lacey, friends, and family members reaching out to local news stations and to Facebook and other social media bodies, the school finally released a statement: AvaLynn was injured as the result of an accident, one that involved no other children. Although a police report was filed, Pascagoula Police Department states that they are not investigating the situation.

The school basically claims that Ava injured herself, as all the photos depicting her injuries will debunk. The local PD claims that there has been no criminal act, which the injury photos also disprove.

So now we've taken this to Facebook, asking everyone out there to please share this page, to please share AvaLynn's story. We need this to reach as many people as possible so that this little girl will not go without justice. Please share this with your friends, your relatives, and all your local news outlets. Please help us get the answers and the justice that our little angel deserves.

Florida Man Kills His Daughter and 6 Grandchildren in Murder-Suicide

By Associated Press  09/19/2014 AT 07:30 AM EDT

A man who spent time in prison a decade ago for the shooting death of his young son killed six of his grandchildren, including an infant, as well as his adult daughter and himself in a rampage at a home in Florida that authorities said they had been called to in the past.

The shooter, 51-year-old Don Spirit, called 911 Thursday afternoon to say he might harm himself or others, Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz said at a news conference. When a deputy arrived, Spirit committed suicide and authorities then found the seven gunshot victims "all over on the property," Schultz said.

Arkansas Real Estate Agent Beverly Carter Targeted Because She Was 'Woman That Worked Alone' (Video)

By MARK MOONEY and MEGHAN KENEALLY

Good Morning America

The man accused of kidnapping and killing Arkansas real estate agent Beverly Carter said today she was targeted because she was "a woman that worked alone."

Arron Lewis, who remains in police custody, is the sole suspect in the grandmother's murder, law enforcement officials said today. He entered a not guilty plea earlier this morning on charges of capital murder, robbery and kidnapping and is being held on $1 million bail.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation though Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Capt. Simon Haynes said that Lewis "was a stranger to her" who investigators believe saw her as "a target of opportunity." Haynes said that Carter met with Lewis at the empty home because she believed he was a prospective buyer.

Both bodies were found wearing diapers and one-piece infant outfits in closets in the Blackstone home, Assistant District Attorney John Bradley said during a bail hearing for Erika Murray in Uxbridge District Court.

Boy, 10, charged in killing of woman, 90, in Pennsylvania

EAST STROUDSBURG Pa. (Reuters) - A 10-year-old boy was held without bail on Tuesday after being charged as an adult in the killing of a 90-year-old woman who was held down with a walking stick and beaten at her caretaker's Pennsylvania home.

... The boy, Tristen Kurilla, said he pinned Novak down on her bed with a walking stick on her throat and punched her “numerous times,” after she yelled at him, according to court papers.

“I killed that lady,” the boy said, the court paper states.

“Were you trying to kill her?” a trooper asked.

“No, I was only trying to hurt her,” the boy replied, according to the criminal complaint.

Over 80 children an hour....
This is the former FBU director speaking out on the evil organizations child snatching in US.
(My figures are from his comments @ 20:00 mark.)
