Aaron Hernandez's probable cause hearing delayed (Video)

By ERIKA NIEDOWSKI / Associated Press / July 24, 2013

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts judge Wednesday gave prosecutors more time to present evidence to a grand jury in their case against former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez was in court for what was supposed to be a probable cause hearing, but prosecutors said the grand jury is still considering the evidence against him.

Judge Daniel O'Shea rescheduled the probable cause hearing for Aug. 22, after considering defense objections to a delay. Hernandez will be held without bail until then.

~Snipped~

Bristol County Assistant District Attorney William McCauley said additional evidence includes boxes of ammunition found at a condominium Hernandez leased and a magazine clip for a .45-caliber Glock in a Hummer registered to him. Police say Lloyd was killed with a .45-caliber gun. McCauley said the box had Hernandez’s fingerprints on it.

Hernandez attorney James Sultan objected to the delay, saying his client has already been jailed for four weeks and that the district attorney could have waited to bring charges, but chose to go ahead last month.

Also Wednesday, O'Shea ruled in favor of media organizations including The Associated Press and ordered the release of two arrest warrants and other search warrants and materials that have been impounded. They'll be released at 3 p.m. Thursday if no one appeals.

2012 case bores in on Aaron Hernandez

Suffolk grand jury hearing evidence on fatal shooting of pair in Boston

By Maria Cramer | Globe Staff | July 24, 2013

Prosecutors have begun making the case to a Suffolk County grand jury that former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez should be charged in the shooting death of two men on a South End street last July, according to two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

“The case against Hernandez appears to be strengthening,” one of the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The proceedings are conducted behind closed doors, so details of the case against Hernandez are unknown. But the fact that the case has gone to a grand jury indicates that the investigation of the killing of two Cape Verdean immigrants is now more narrowly focused on Hernandez. Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu were shot early on July 16, 2012, in the South End when someone in a sport utility vehicle with Rhode Island license plates pulled up next to their car and began firing.

Uncle of Aaron Hernandez killed in moped crash

AP / August 4, 2013

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — The uncle of murder suspect and former NFL star Aaron Hernandez has been killed in a moped crash in Connecticut.

Bristol police identified the victim of the early Saturday morning crash as Robert Valentine of Bristol.

In an interview with The Boston Globe, Patrick Valentine said he and Robert Valentine are the brothers of Terri Hernandez, Aaron Hernandez’s mother.

It was the second recent fatal accident involving a Hernandez relative. Thaddeus Singleton III of Bristol was killed when the car he was driving slammed into a country club building on June 30. He was married to Hernandez’s cousin.

Aaron Hernandez's Uncle Dies in Moped Crash

BY BRIAN JOSEPHS | AUG 4, 2013 | 1:01 am

One of the more memorable images of the craziness surrounding Aaron Hernandez earlier this summer was the silver SUV that was being towed from Aaron Hernandez's uncle's home because of its suspected connection to a double murder. It's a shame his uncle caught some attention under such circumstances, and on Saturday, he made headlines for even more tragic conditions. Robert Valentine died from head injuries after being thrown from his moped when he struck a curve.

The strange part about this accident is that Valentine is the second person close to the investigation to die from a vehicular incident. Thaddeus Singleton, a person police were aiming to question, died on June 30 from a car crash. It's weird, but on the other hand we can't imagine what Terri Hernandez must be going through after losing her brother and possibly her son (Aaron) to imprisonment.

Hernandez Cousin Held In Contempt Of Mass. Grand Jury

By JENNY WILSON, jenwilson@courant.com
The Hartford Courant
7:25 p.m. EDT, August 8, 2013

A cousin of Aaron Hernandez is being held at a correctional facility in Massachusetts after she refused to testify in front of a grand jury convened in the former New England Patriot's murder case.

Tanya Cummings-Singleton, 37, was deemed in contempt of the grand jury she was subpoenaed to appear before, a source familiar with the investigation said. She has been in custody since Aug. 1, according to a spokesman for South Bay House of Correction in Suffolk County.

The grand jury in Fall River, Mass., has been investigating Hernandez's role in the June 17 shooting death of Odin Lloyd. A probable cause hearing for the former Patriots tight end from Bristol, who was arrested in late June and charged with first-degree murder, is scheduled for Aug. 22, unless the grand jury indicts him before that date. Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter, whose office is prosecuting the case, signaled during a press conference last month that he expects an indictment by then.

Fiancée of Aaron Hernandez eyed in newly released court documents

Shavanna Jenkins seen on surveillance removing item from home

UPDATED 7:59 AM EDT Aug 11, 2013

BRISTOL, Conn. —Investigators searching for the gun used to kill a semi-pro football player are looking into whether former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez asked his girlfriend to get rid of the weapon shortly after the victim's body was found about a mile from his home.

The Bristol Press reported Friday that search warrants for a Bristol storage facility suggest Hernandez may have instructed Shayanna Jenkins to take a gun safe or lock box out of his home in North Attleboro the day after the body of Odin Lloyd was discovered.

The warrants claim that Jenkins was seen on surveillance video footage carrying a rigid object the size of a lock box or safe out of the house and into the yard, before loading it into her sister's car. She allegedly asked to use the vehicle to go to the bank and returned home about 35 minutes later without the object.

Search in pond for gun used in Odin Lloyd murder comes to an end

Posted by Josh Alper on August 14, 2013, 10:00 AM EDT

Authorities in Bristol, Connecticut spent the last week searching a pond for the gun they believe was used to kill Odin Lloyd, but their search has come to an end without the evidence they hoped to retrieve.

The pond is near the previously searched Pine Lake and both bodies of water are two miles from the home of the uncle of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who has been charged with murder. Two other suspects charged in the crime, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, stayed at the home and Ortiz was arrested there.

“No evidence was recovered and, at the present time, no more dives are planned,” Lt. Kevin Morrell of the Bristol Police Department said, via UPI.com.

Police: Gun found in woman's car linked to double killing, Aaron Hernandez probe

By Laura Dolan and Susan Candiotti, CNN
August 20, 2013 -- Updated 1436 GMT (2236 HKT)

Aaron Hernadez hearing

(CNN) -- A gun found during a traffic accident investigation two months ago has been linked to a 2012 double slaying that police are investigating in connection with Aaron Hernandez, law enforcement sources said Tuesday.

After a June 21 four-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Jailene Diaz-Ramos, 19, was taken to a hospital. During a search of her vehicle -- which is customary when a car is towed from a crash scene -- Massachusetts State Police found a firearm and several rounds of ammunition, according to the incident report.

The gun's ballistics match the markings on the bullets found after two men were killed outside a Boston bar last year, two law enforcement sources said.

By Tracy Connor, Staff Writer, NBC News

A Massachusetts grand jury has indicted ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez on a first-degree murder charge in the June shooting death of his friend Odin Lloyd.

Murder and weapons charges against Hernandez — and indictments against two other people connected to him — were announced one hour before the former New England Patriots star made a brief appearance in Attleboro District Court.

Hernandez, who is being held without bail, wore a dark suit and white shirt, with his wrists shackled in front of him. He will be arraigned in Superior Court next Wednesday or later, prosecutors said.

NFLPA Files Grievance Over Workout Bonus Owed to Aaron Hernandez

by NESN Staff on Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 8:26PM

As was initially rumored last week, the NFL Players Association has officially filed a grievance against the New England Patriots.

The NFLPA is using the grievance in an attempt to collect an $82,000 workout bonus that former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez earned while he was still a part of the organization. Hernandez was cut by the team shortly after his arrest on murder charges in June, and the bonus, which was scheduled for Aug. 1, was never paid.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported news of the grievance, which the NFLPA confirmed in a statement to Albert Breer of the NFL Network

Authorities charged that Jenkins, Hernandez's fiancee, lied to investigators during their work. While Sutter did not provide specific information about the basis of the indictment, prosecutors have said in the past that both women made "overt attempts" to mislead or misdirect the investigation. Jenkins remains free, but could be summoned for arraignment.

Singleton, Hernandez's cousin, was previously indicted on a charge of contempt. According to the Hartford Courant, Singleton drove to Georgia with Ernest Wallace, another individual involved in the case, after the shooting, and then purchased a bus ticket for Wallace from Georgia to Florida.

Fall River Superior Court has not announced arraignment dates for either Singleton or Jenkins.

Aaron Hernandez prosecutors seek judge’s recusal in pre-trial hearing

Assistant District Attorney William McCauley announced in court that he planned to file a motion asking Judge Susan Garsh to give up the case. Garsh will hear the motion to recuse on Oct. 21.

BY KEVIN ARMSTRONG / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Prosecutors in the Aaron Hernandez murder case want the judge to recuse herself.

Assistant District Attorney William McCauley announced in court Wednesday that he planned to file a motion asking Judge Susan Garsh to step aside due to her history with McCauley from the 2010 murder trial of George Duarte. In the motion, McCauley, the lead prosecutor, asserted that the prosecution “does not believe that Judge Garsh can be free of bias against the Commonwealth.” A memorandum in support of the motion noted “a well-known and publicly documented history of antagonism — a history that has, in the past, generated broad public comment and concern” between Garsh and McCauley.

Prosecutors added, “The risk of prejudice here is simply so great that failing to take action now, while a remedy is still possible, would amount to a signal failure to discharge our public duty.”

Jenkins admitted disposing of box

KEVIN VAUGHAN

Updated Oct 15, 2013 9:57 PM ET

The fiancée of former football star Aaron Hernandez admitted before a grand jury that she removed a box from their home the day after Odin Lloyd was killed — a box that prosecutors believe contained the murder weapon — and tossed it into a dumpster.

But although Shayanna Jenkins admitted that Hernandez had instructed her to get rid of the box, she declined repeatedly to tell grand jurors exactly where she took it when questioned about the location of the dumpster — and, therefore, committed perjury, a prosecutor asserted Tuesday at her arraignment.

“She was asked what she did to the item that Mr. Hernandez instructed her to get rid of; she repeatedly told the grand jury that she couldn’t remember, she didn’t know, she’d thrown it in a dumpster, and she couldn’t tell anybody where it was,” Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg said at Jenkins’ arraignment as he argued that she should be jailed and forced to post a $5,000 bail.

But Jenkins’s attorney, Janice Bassil, accused prosecutors of overly aggressive tactics and said that she testified truthfully about some details that she honestly could not recall.

Judge rejects motion to remove her from Aaron Hernandez murder case

A judge on Monday rejected a motion by prosecutors to remove her from the Aaron Hernandez murder trial.

Assistant District Attorney William McCauley had clashed with Bristol County Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh in the past and sought her recusal, saying she has displayed chronic bias against prosecutors and the government, an allegation Garsh bluntly dismissed.

“I harbor no bias against the Commonwealth or against First Assistant District Attorney William McCauley or against the defendant,’’ Garsh said in court Monday.  “... A person aware of all the facts and circumstances would not question my impartiality."

A subpoena does not mean Pouncey is being charged with anything. It is simply a written command ordering someone whom law enforcement officials believe can be a key witness in a case to appear in court.

Aaron Hernandez fiancee’s perjury case needs to be explained in more detail, judge rules

By Travis Andersen and Martin Finucane, Globe Staff (Video)

November 6, 2013

FALL RIVER — A Bristol Superior Court judge today ordered prosecutors to be more specific about their perjury case against the fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, who faces a charge of murder.

Defense attorneys questioned the government’s case against Shayanna Jenkins, who pleaded not guilty in mid-October and was released on her own recognizance.

“I have no idea, frankly, what they consider to be perjury,” said Jenkins’s attorney, Janice Bassil.

Judge E. Susan Garsh asked prosecutors whether they believed that everything Jenkins told a grand jury investigating the murder was false. Prosecutor William McCauley responded by saying, “That’s a hard question to answer.”

Prosecutors Must Detail How Aaron Hernandez’s Girlfriend Committed Perjury

November 6, 2013 5:10 PM

FALL RIVER, Mass. (CBS/AP) — The girlfriend of Aaron Hernandez appeared in court Wednesday, charged with perjury in connection with the murder case against the former New England Patriot.

Lawyers for Shayanna Jenkins asked the state to pinpoint where in the 200-page Grad Jury testimony, Jenkins allegedly committed perjury.

The judge ruled the prosecution must specify what Jenkins said.

The prosecution has until December 2 to come up with the particulars.

Aaron Hernandez pleads Fifth for lawsuit alleging he shot friend in face

By Jeff Black, Staff Writer, NBC News

Aaron Hernandez won’t respond to accusations that he shot a friend in the face after a night out at a Miami strip club, his lawyers said in court papers filed Wednesday.

Attorneys for the former New England Patriots tight end, responding to a civil suit filed by 30-year-old Alexander Bradley, invoked Hernandez Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

“Defendant asserts his rights under the Fifth Amendment and, therefore, declines to respond to the allegations,” lawyers wrote in a court filing.

Pretrial conference for alleged Hernandez accomplice delayed

FALL RIVER — Alleged Aaron Hernandez accomplice Carlos Ortiz’ pretrial conference has been rescheduled to Jan. 9.

Ortiz, who is charged with being an accessory after the fact, was scheduled to appear today in Fall River Superior Court, but his lawyer, John J. Connors, requested the hearing be postponed because prosecutors had just recently given him 200 data discs of discovery.

“I have to go through all that,” Connors said. “There is a lot of material.”

Ortiz, 27, of Bristol, Conn., pleaded not guilty at his Oct. 18 arraignment.

Hernandez's lawyers request gag order, accuse prosecutors of arranging publicity stunt

FALL RIVER — Aaron Hernandez’s defense team is accusing the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office of “orchestrating a publicity stunt” in issuing a grand jury subpoena to a Miami Dolphins player at Gillette Stadium last month.

Hernandez’s lawyers said someone tipped off reporters to wait outside the visitors’ locker room when Dolphins center Michael Pouncey, a close friend of Hernandez, was given the summons on Oct. 27. The encounter between Pouncey and Massachusetts State Police detectives took place without the New England Patriots’ knowledge and in the presence of Sports Illustrated reporters, according to court documents.

Unnamed law enforcement sources then began telling several national media outlets — including Sports Illustrated and CNN — that Pouncey’s grand jury summons was related to a Bristol County District Attorney Office’s investigation into Hernandez’s alleged involvement with gun trafficking.

FALL RIVER — Aaron Hernandez’s next pretrial hearing in Fall River Superior Court has been indefinitely postponed.

Hernandez, 24, was scheduled to appear in court Dec. 13, but prosecutors requested the hearing be rescheduled to a later date to allow Odin Lloyd’s family to attend. Lloyd’s relatives are not able to make the Dec. 13 hearing, according to court documents.

Judge E. Susan Garsh allowed prosecutors’ request, but said the hearing will still be held Dec. 13 if prosecutors and Hernandez’s lawyers do not agree on a new date before then.

Police in Southington, Conn. continue to investigate the untimely death of Tabitha Perry, a 27-year-old woman from nearby Bristol with ties to former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez and associates from his hometown.

"We are still waiting on toxicology and medical examiner reports," a police spokesman said Thursday morning.

The police department received a 911 call at 2:56 a.m. on Monday and responded to 25 Darling Street in Southington. Perry was found unconscious and not breathing. Investigators believe that Perry was visiting a friend when she was found. Perry was transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut by ambulance and pronounced dead.

Several people with ties to Hernandez have died in the past six months.

Robert Valentine, a brother of Aaron Hernandez's mother, died in a crash in August. Singleton died June 30 when the car he and Perry were in went off a road in Farmington, went airborne and became lodged inside a country club building.

Police have ruled that both crashes were accidents.

Investigators have said that Singleton introduced Hernandez to Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, the two other defendants facing charges in Lloyd's death.

Judge seizes Aaron Hernandez’s home

By Travis Andersen | Globe Staff December 19, 2013

NEW BEDFORD — A judge put a hold Thursday on Aaron Hernandez’s mansion in North Attleborough while a wrongful death lawsuit is pending against the former New England Patriots player.

Judge Richard T. Moses issued the order in Bristol Superior Court at the request of the family of Odin Lloyd, the 27-year-old Dorchester man that Hernandez is charged with killing.

The action effectively bars Hernandez from selling the sprawling $1.26 million house before the lawsuit is resolved, because it could be used to pay a judgment. The Lloyd family filed the suit Monday.

~Snipped~

Charles Rankin, a lawyer representing Hernandez in the criminal case, did not object to Moses’s order, but asked that his client be permitted to revisit the matter at a later date when he retains counsel for the lawsuit. Moses granted that request during the brief hearing.

The lawsuit also seeks to block the Patriots from paying more than $3.25 million to Hernandez that the NFL Players Association, his former union, contends he is owed. The family argues that the money, which is the subject of a pending union grievance, could instead be awarded to Lloyd’s estate as part of a legal judgment.

Hernandez friend killed in crash was on drugs

AP / December 23, 2013

FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A friend of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez who died after crashing his car into a Connecticut country club in June had cocaine and oxycodone in his system, according to toxicology results released by police on Monday.

Thaddeus Singleton III, 33, also tested positive for PCP and two cocaine-related drugs, Farmington police said. Authorities said the accident remains under investigation, and no other details were released.

Singleton, who was married to a cousin of Hernandez, died after a car he was driving went off a road in Farmington, went airborne and became lodged inside the Farmington Country Club on June 30.

A passenger in the car, Tabitha Perry, 27, survived the crash, but died last week after being found unconscious and not breathing inside a Southington home. The cause of her death remains under investigation, with toxicology tests pending.

The case against former Patriot Aaron Hernandez and his alleged involvement in a 2012 double homicide in Boston came into clearer focus Tuesday when details from a search warrant application were released in Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, Conn.

Hernandez, 24, has already been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, an acquaintance, from last June, but police are also investigating Hernandez’s possible role in the killings of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, as well.

Aaron Hernandez isn’t allowed to watch the Patriots in the playoffs from jail

By MIKE FOSS January 14, 2014 7:11 am ET

The New England Patriots are one win away from reaching the Super Bowl. Aaron Hernandez was with the Patriots last year when New England lost in the AFC Championship to the Baltimore Ravens. This year the former tight end will be in a prison cell at the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth, Mass., away from the rest of the prison population permitted to watch an hour of the game.

“No,” Bristol Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson told the Boston Herald. “He’s not allowed to watch any TV.”

Man allegedly shot by Aaron Hernandez shot again

By DAVE COLLINS — Feb. 3, 2014 7:48 PM EST

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A man who alleges he was shot in the face by former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez in Florida was shot again, this time outside a Connecticut nightclub, where he then opened fire, police said Monday.

Alexander Bradley was part of a disturbance involving money Sunday that spilled outside of the Vevo Lounge Bar & Grill in Hartford's South Meadows neighborhood, police Lt. Brian Foley said.

After the 31-year-old was shot multiple times in the right thigh, he retrieved a gun from his car and tried to enter the nightclub, Foley said, before he opened fire.

Bradley was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and other crimes. His Connecticut lawyer, Robert Pickering, hung up the phone on a reporter without commenting Monday.

Detectives recovered 11 shell casings from outside of the club, Foley said, and Bradley's gun was reported stolen from Springfield, Mass. Foley said the investigation into who shot Bradley is ongoing.

Justice Upholds Gag Order In Aaron Hernandez Case

April 7, 2014 7:25 PM

BOSTON (AP) — A state Supreme Judicial Court justice has upheld the gag order on both sides in the murder case of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.

Prosecutors asked Justice Fernande Duffly to review the order by Bristol Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh. Duffly’s ruling Monday said prosecutors haven’t shown it interferes with their case, and they can go back to Garsh if they have a future problem.

Defense attorneys requested the order, accusing the state of allowing leaks and prejudicial out-of-court statements. Garsh said she didn’t find any ethical lapses by prosecutors.

Two Aaron Hernandez associates indicted on murder charges

By Crimesider Staff / CBS/AP / April 14, 2014, 11:23 AM

FALL RIVER, Mass. - Two associates of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez were indicted Friday on murder charges in last summer's shooting death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez is already charged with murder in the killing of the 27-year-old Lloyd. He has pleaded not guilty.

On Friday, nearly 10 months after Hernandez's murder charge was filed, a grand jury in Bristol County returned separate indictments against Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace in the June 2013 killing, District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter said.

Ortiz and Wallace, who are from Bristol, Conn., where Hernandez grew up, had been charged previously with accessory to murder after the fact and had pleaded not guilty. They had been ordered held on $500,000 bail on the older charges.

Oscar Hernandez (Video at link)

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Oscar Hernandez was arrested Wednesday night on federal charges amid allegations that he lied to a federal grand jury in a gun trafficking investigation that began after a June 2013 homicide in North Attleboro.

Hernandez was arrested in Florida on charges of obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and lying to a federal grand jury. Officials said his arrest is part of a gun trafficking investigation between Florida and Massachusetts.

Investigators allege Hernandez gave false testimony in response to questions about the ownership of a Toyota Camry. In a transcript of the interview, Hernandez is quoted as saying, "No, sir," when asked if he ever owned or purchased a Camry.

Officials allege Hernandez had purchased a Camry from a man identified as "KS." They claim the false statement was "material because the grand jury was investigating the interstate transportation of firearms from Florida to Massachusetts in, among other things, the Toyota Camry."

Aaron Hernandez indicted in 2012 Boston double murder

Last Updated May 15, 2014 3:35 PM EDT

BOSTON - Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was indicted Thursday in a double murder that took place nearly two years ago.

The 24-year-old Hernandez is already facing murder charges in the June 17, 2013 death of 27-year-old Boston semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

Daniel de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28, both of Dorchester, Mass., were gunned down July 16, 2012 as they sat at a traffic light in Boston's South End shortly after leaving Cure Lounge with three friends. A silver SUV with Rhode Island plates was reportedly seen speeding away from the drive-by shooting.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said Thursday that a grand jury voted to indict Hernandez on two counts of first-degree murder. He was also indicted on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez indicted in 2012 double-murder in Boston

Two men were killed in a drive-by shooting at a red light in Boston's South end in July, 2012, and cops believe Hernandez was the shooter. Hernandez is currently awaiting trial on another murder, the 2013 slaying of Odin Lloyd. He entered a plea of not guilty in that case.

BY  KEVIN ARMSTRONG IN BOSTON,  BILL HUTCHINSON  / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS /

Thursday, May 15, 2014, 11:23 PM

Aaron Hernandez spent parts of his NFL off-seasons working out, studying game film and committing three murders, authorities charged.

The former New England Patriots star was indicted Thursday for gunning down two men in a Boston drive-by on July 16, 2012. Prosecutors say Hernandez, 24, used a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson to blast two men at a traffic light.

The shooting followed a “chance encounter” at the Cure Lounge, officials said. Several shots were fired into Daniel de Abreu’s BMW, killing the 29-year-old man. Safiro Furtado, 28, was also killed. A third man in the car was wounded but survived.

The new indictment brings the body count for Hernandez to three. He was already facing a murder charge for the shooting of a man during the 2013 off-season.

I am not up on this case at all.
These lines stood out:

" ... While partying at a Boston nightclub last June, Hernandez became enraged at seeing Lloyd, 27, talking to people at the club that he “had troubles with,” prosecutors said.

Hernandez and two accomplices — Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, who have both been charged with murder — drove Lloyd to an isolated industrial park, where Hernandez shot him five times with a .45-caliber handgun, authorities said. Before he was killed, Lloyd texted his sister to let her know he was with Hernandez.

Police quickly zeroed in on Hernandez, whose rented Nissan Altima was caught by video surveillance cameras leaving the murder scene. Security cameras at Hernandez’s home in North Attleborough, Mass., also captured him carrying a pistol as he arrived at the house shortly after Lloyd was killed, police said.

While the murder weapon was never found, .45-caliber shell casings discovered in the Altima matched slugs removed from Lloyd.

After Hernandez’s arrest on June 28, cops got a tip linking the football player to the double homicide in Boston’s South End.

“From last June forward, there were a number of significant developments in the investigation,” Conley said.... "

Investigators seek help from tattooists in Aaron Hernandez case

BOSTON – Investigators are asking for help from tattoo artists who may have inked former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez's right arm between February 2012 and June.

The Suffolk district attorney's office stressed that the tattoo artists are considered witnesses only and are not suspected of any wrongdoing, but they "may have made observations of evidentiary value."

Hernandez is charged in three killings. He is scheduled to be arraigned May 28 on two counts of murder for allegedly shooting two men in Boston in 2012, prosecutors said Wednesday.

BOSTON -- A spilled drink in a Boston nightclub led former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to kill two people in a drive-by shooting two years ago, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Hernandez felt disrespected after a stranger bumped into him and spilled his drink, prompting him to follow the man and his friends, then open fire on their car at a red light.

"I think I got one in the head and one in the chest," Hernandez told a friend as they fled the intersection, prosecutors said at the former gridiron star's arraignment

Prosecutor: Hernandez killed 2 after drink spilled (Video)

BOSTON (AP) — Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez gunned down two men he did not know in their car because one of them bumped into him while dancing at a Boston nightclub, spilling his drink, prosecutors said in court Wednesday.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty in at the Suffolk Superior Court hearing to seven charges in the 2012 shooting that killed Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. A third man was wounded.

Hernandez's attorney, Charles Rankin, objected, saying the prosecutor's account of the shooting was an attempt to poison the jury pool. Clerk Magistrate Gary Wilson dismissed the objection.

Prosecutor Patrick Haggan said that in the months leading up the shooting, Hernandez had become increasingly convinced that people "had been testing, trying or otherwise disrespecting him when he frequented nightclubs in the area."

Aaron Hernandez short on money

May 31, 2014
ESPN.com news services

Aaron Hernandez apparently doesn't have enough of the $18 million he made in three years as a tight end for the New England Patriots to continue paying for the defense attorneys he retained for his legal proceedings.

Hernandez, jailed for nearly a year without bail in Massachusetts as he now faces murder charges related to the killing of three men, has filed a motion asking a Suffolk County court for two months "to make financial arrangements to retain counsel," according to legal filings, the contents of which were first reported Friday by Fox Sports and later confirmed by ESPN's Michele Steele.

The district attorney's PR department had no comment to ESPN's Steele, but said it is aware of the situation.
