The killing of a popular Estero doctor has left family and friends puzzled and saddened.

The body of Dr. Teresa Ann Sievers, 46, was found Monday morning at her Jarvis Road home after she didn't arrive at work.

"We don't know anything but that she was murdered," said Sievers' sister, Annie Lisa, 52. She said Sievers, her husband and children had come to Connecticut for a gathering and her sister flew home alone Sunday.

"She called her husband and told him she got there safely," Lisa said. "We don't know what happened."

Lisa said she and other family members were making preparations to come to Florida

The Lee County Sheriff's Office declined to discuss the case, saying it was an ongoing homicide investigation, but assured neighbors that there was no threat in the area, but they reminded residents to lock their doors.

Cadets assist in search at slain doctor's Bonita Springs home

MICHAEL BRAUN, MBRAUN@NEWS-PRESS.COM 8:08 p.m. EDT July 1, 2015

Dr. Teresa Sievers

More than 48 hours after Dr. Teresa Sievers was found slain in her Bonita Springs home, deputies, security company employees and training academy cadets scoured the property and home looking for clues.

The body of Sievers, 46, was found Monday morning at her Jarvis Road home after she didn't arrive at work.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office declined to say anything about the case Wednesday because it was an ongoing investigation. Officers assured neighbors that there was no threat in the area, but they reminded residents to lock their doors.

Wednesday afternoon, 30 cadets from the Southwest Florida Institute for Public Service were called in to assist in the search for evidence.

Todd G. Everly, director of the academy off Michigan Avenue in Fort Myers, said it is not uncommon for the academy's cadets to be used in this manner.

Teresa Sievers, 46, was found in her Bonita Springs home on Monday while her family was in Connecticut

Police are investigating after a Florida doctor was found dead in her home while her husband and children were away visiting family.

Teresa Sievers, 46, was found dead in her Bonita Springs home on Monday after staff at her Estero office became concerned that she didn't show up to work, despite having scheduled appointments.

Sievers had been in Connecticut with her husband, Mark Sievers, their children and sister Anna Lisa prior to her death, but flew home alone on Sunday.

'She called her husband and told him she got there safely,' Lisa told the News-Press. 'We don't know anything but that she was murdered.'

Police visited the home, owned by Teresa and Mark Sievers, after dispatchers received a call raising concern for Sievers's whereabouts at 9.45am on Monday. Her street was then blocked off.

Police have not provided information about the incident, nor have they confirmed details about the investigation.

But Lee County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Tiffany Wood said the neighborhood rarely has problems.

BONITA SPRINGS, FL - Our coverage continues four days after Doctor Teresa Sievers was found dead in her Bonita Springs home.

And all new Thursday, we're finding out where her husband has been.

Also, deputies are asking the people who live around the scene on Jarvis Road to be on the lookout for danger, and lock their doors.

We're still working to get many questions answered.

But we did find out that people who work near Dr. Sievers' office have seen her husband.

They say he has been there and appeared distraught.

We also confirmed with Florida Department of Children and Families officials Thursday that they are not involved in this case - nor have they ever been involved with the family.

And the family is in the process of planning Sievers' funeral services.

Meanwhile, there are new clues in the investigation. On Thursday, deputies removed the door of Dr. Sievers' home and loaded it onto a crime scene van.

ABC-7 saw them focusing on what appears to be a broken door handle.

We've also seen members of the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy combing through yards and hunting for evidence.

Also Thursday we spotted a deputy carrying a home computer to the crime scene van.

Lanka Spiska said she worked along side Dr. Sievers for four years.

Lee County Sheriff Scott breaks silence on Sievers murder case

By Sam Smink   •   July 7, 2015

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- For the first time, WINK News is hearing directly from Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott on a murder case that’s terrified the community.

Dr. Teresa Sievers was brutally killed in her home more than a week ago, and the sheriff’s office has been tight-lipped about the case ever since.

Tuesday, Sheriff Scott told WINK News this was not a random crime.

“Our detectives are literally working around the clock. This is all hands on deck, no stones unturned, serious stuff.”

Scott is finally answering questions the community, and the nation, has about Sievers’ murder.

Many residents wonder, are they in danger?

Neighbors have criticized the sheriff’s office, claiming Scott is keeping them in the dark when it comes to safety.

But the sheriff says the public isn’t in danger.

“Based on reason and the evidence we have to this point, and working it exhaustively, I’m very comfortable saying it’s not a random arbitrary situation and I do believe there’s some connectivity here.”

Sheriff: Murder of Florida doctor doesn't appear random

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - The murder of a southwest Florida doctor who was found dead in her Bonita Springs home last week isn't believed to be random, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott told CBS affiliate WINK.

~Snipped~

No arrests have been made and authorities have been tight-lipped on details surrounding the crime, including how Sievers was killed. Sources, however, tell WINK she was beaten with a hammer.

Sievers, her husband, and two daughters had traveled to Connecticut for a gathering, and Sievers flew home alone the night before she was found dead.

A neighbor told WINK she heard a shrill sound come from Sievers' home around 5 a.m. on June 29. Another neighbor told the station he heard a man's voice shouting.

"Within reason, based on the evidence we have to this point, and working it exhaustively, I'm fairly comfortable saying it's not a random arbitrary situation," Scott said.

4 weeks later and no arrest made in Dr. Teresa Sievers’ murder

By Sam Smink   •   July 27, 2015

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Four weeks to the day, and still no arrests have been made in the murder of Doctor Teresa Sievers.

Sources tells WINK News, the Bonita Springs mother was beaten to death with a hammer. We’re also learning investigators and forensic experts are still combing her property.

According to neighbors on Jarvis Road, the scene at the Sievers home on Friday looked similar to the scenes they saw during the first week of the investigation. Friday’s scene involved crime scene technicians and investigators.

Neighbors say they witnessed technicians take saliva and hair samples from the couple’s dogs.
Deputies were joined by Sievers’ husband, Mark.

Meanwhile, Mark Sievers sent a message to patients telling them they found a new doctor to provide phone consultations three days a week. The doctor in question is Sangeeta Pati.

She was one of FIVE doctors who mysteriously died during June.
Four are still missing.
ALL of them opposed the vaccination requirements (71 vaccines) for children.
This is from birth to age 18.
Congress is trying hard to appease big pharma by getting this into law...
One dr strongly advocated against vaccines after his own son was born autistic.

The two men, Jimmy Rodgers, 25, and Curtis Wayne Wright, 47, were arrested by authorities Thursday. Sievers' sister Annie Lisa told The News-Press Wright is a long-time friend of Sievers' husband Mark Sievers. It's unclear whether Rodgers knew either Sievers.

The arrests were announced within three hours of each other by Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott in two news conferences that lasted less than five minutes. He took no questions from the media.

Scott opens "envelope of suspicion" on HLN

Posted: Sep 01, 2015 9:43 PM CDT
Updated: Sep 01, 2015 10:50 PM CDT

By Michael Colaianni, Reporter

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott told HLN's Nancy Grace on Tuesday night that "no one is outside the envelope of suspicion" when it comes to the murder of Teresa Sievers.

Scott told Grace his detectives are continuing to comb through a "mountain of circumstantial and physical evidence," and that one of the men arrested last week - Curtis Wright - has a security background. He refused comment when Grace asked him whether there was a safe in the Sievers' home at the time of the murder.

Meanwhile, NBC2 spoke Tuesday to the owner of JV Contracting, the Missouri company where the other arrested suspect - Jimmy Rodgers - worked. Tyler Juliette said the 25-year-old Rodgers clocked out of work on Friday, June 26, and wasn't seen again until the day after Sievers was found murdered.

Lee County detectives have said Rodgers was seen on Walmart security cameras in South Fort Myers the day before Sievers was murdered. Rodgers' girlfriend told NBC2 that he claimed to be away on a construction job - one that would net him $10,000.

Intricate investigation of Sievers murder explained by Sheriff

BEN BRASCH, BBRASCH@NEWS-PRESS.COM 3:42 p.m. EDT September 1, 2015

(Photo: Andrew West/news-press.com, Andrew West/news-press.com)

When Lee County investigators flew to Missouri searching for the killers of Dr. Teresa Sievers, they packed for three days.

They were there three weeks.

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said Sgt. David Lebid and Det. Michael Downs came back not only with new clothes but a wealth of evidence.

Scott said the sheriff's office is thrilled the agency's investigation into the adored Estero doctor's June 29 murder led to the arrests last week of 25-year-old Jimmy Rodgers and 47-year-old Curtis Wayne Wright.

~Snipped~

A Missouri circuit judge set a Sept. 30 extradition hearing for Wright as a formality, said Alisha McKalip, with the circuit clerk's office in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Wright has refused to waive his extradition, according to a fugitive probable cause affidavit. But the court document dated Monday goes on to say that a Lee prosecutor will ask Florida Gov. Rick Scott for a warrant to involuntarily extradite Wright.

Sheriff Scott said he expects Wright to appear in Florida in the next 30 days.

Rodgers, whose legal situation is muddied by the fact that he is being federally held on a violation of probation, will take longer to face Florida charges.

“And that was by design, of course,” said Scott. “Once you arrest a person and charge (him), a clock starts ticking. We felt the timing — and the state attorney agrees — and the body of evidence to that point was right to level the charges against Rodgers."

He said getting Rodgers off the streets for violating his felony weapons charge was the first step in a well-orchestrated plan that ended with Wright, a long-time friend of Sievers' husband Mark Sievers, behind bars a day and a half later.

The two men, Jimmy Rodgers, 25, and Curtis Wayne Wright, 47, were arrested Thursday, according Scott Lineberger, spokesman for the Lee County, Mo., Sheriff's Office. They each face second-degree murder charges in Florida.

The two Missouri men accused in the death of Bonita Springs doctor Teresa Sievers hung out on at least two occasions in the weeks before she was killed.

Jimmy Rodgers, 25, and Curtis “Wayne” Wright Jr., 47, appeared together in a photo posted to Facebook on May 30 by Rodgers’ girlfriend, Taylor Shomaker, who called it a “pretty good night.”

Two Missouri men arrested for murder of Bonita Springs doctor

Two Missouri men have been arrested and charged with the murder of Bonita Springs doctor, Teresa Sievers.

Jimmy Rodgers and Curtis Wayne Wright were taken into custody and have been charged for Sievers murder, according to Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott. Wright has been charged with second-degree murder.

Sievers was found dead in her home on Jarvis Road in late June. The mother of two small children ran a hormone therapy and holistic healing practice out of Estero.

Sheriff Scott said they believe the murder was "a targeted set of circumstances."

Spotted in Lee County

We have confirmed Jimmy Rodgers was arrested in Missouri on a federal probation violation.

Through federal court documents, we learned Rodgers was seen at a Lee County Walmart on June 28. Sievers was found dead in her home on June 29.

Rodgers' prior convictions on weapons charges led to his probation, and he was not permitted to leave the state of Missouri based on that probation.

An investigator from the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit reported the findings to the federal court -- leading to Rodgers' arrest.

Hometown confession

While investigators were piecing the puzzle together in Florida, Rodgers’ neighbors tell us he was bragging about the crimes in Missouri.

Rodgers lived at a home 1,200 miles from Bonita Springs in the small town of Cadet, Missouri. Neighbors say Rodgers was well known.

When we visited the home, Rodgers' girlfriend’s family explained how they learned about the horrific murder. They say he confessed to the killings earlier this week, and even pointed her to where he hid the evidence.

"Evidently quite a bit of evidence. He brought it all here and threw it away and told Taylor where it was. I think they found the bloody jumpsuit he wore," said Cathy Gaston, a family member.

His girlfriend then told investigators when they moved in for an arrest.

Facebook connection

Curtis Wright, who goes by Wayne Wright on Facebook, is listed on the social network as a family member of Teresa Sievers' husband, Mark. According to Teresa Sievers' sister, Wright is Mark Sievers' childhood best friend.

Wright and Rodgers are also friends on Facebook.

At the time of the murder, Sheriff Scott told us this was not a random act.

Sheriff Scott shares more information in Sievers murder

By Corey Lazar    •   September 2, 2015

FORT MYERS, Fla.–Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott says they’re not ruling anything out when it comes to the potential of more suspects in the brutal murder of Bonita Springs doctor Teresa Sievers.

We asked Sheriff Scott if he believes anyone else was inside Sievers home when she was murdered.

“Well we have not ruled that out. We have not ruled out any other involvement at any level,” said Scott.

Sheriff Scott says they have a very large envelope of suspicion.

“You look at family, immediate friends, close friends, you look at business associates and things of that nature,” said Scott.

~Snipped~

There are now questions swirling about Sievers husband Mark.

Did he know these two suspects? WINK News is learning Wright and Sievers husband have been friends since childhood.

But a neighbor of Rodgers in Missouri tells WINK News she has seen Mark Sievers at Rodgers trailer before.

“Our team has put it all out and our foot is on the gas pedal, we want to get to the finish line, of course, where we think we have it wrapped up, but we are not there yet,” said Scott.

At this point in the case, Sheriff Scott could not confirm or deny if Sievers had a life insurance policy or if she had a new life insurance policy.

Suspect in Sievers murder will serve 6 months in federal prison

By Sam Smink/ AP • September 2, 2015

ST. LOUIS- One of two Missouri men charged with killing a southwest Florida doctor will serve six months in federal prison for a probation violation in an unrelated gun case.

A federal judge in St. Louis ruled Wednesday that 25-year-old Jimmy Ray Rodgers broke the terms of his 2011 guilty plea to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Rodgers’ attorney said in federal court Wednesday, her client did admit to going out of the State of Missouri, when he wasn’t allowed to. But she says he wouldn’t say where.

Deputies say he was in Florida, spotted at a Fort Myers Wal-Mart the day before Dr. Teresa Sievers’ death.

Murdered Bonita doctor's husband: "No comment" (Video)

LEE COUNTY, FL - Two months after Dr. Teresa Sievers was brutally murdered inside their Bonita Springs home, we're hearing from her husband for the first time.

Two men have been arrested for the crime, including Mark Sievers' childhood friend.

NBC2 has tried reaching Mark Sievers for nearly a week now. Since the news of two arrests in the murder case, Mark's cell phone has been shut off.  It's also the same phone his wife's former patients are directed to call.

It was just about a week ago that Mark's best friend, Curtis Wayne Wright, and another man, Jimmy Rodgers, were arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Both live in Mark's home state of Missouri.

In an effort to find out the latest in the investigation, NBC2 went to Teresa Sievers' former practice in Estero on Wednesday.

Suspect in Florida doctor's death violates federal probation

By ALAN SCHER ZAGIER, Associated Press
Updated 12:01 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2015

ST. LOUIS (AP) — One of two Missouri men charged with killing a southwest Florida doctor was sentenced Wednesday for a probation violation that investigators allege put him in the same county where the physician was killed — more than 1,100 miles from his eastern Missouri home — a day before her body was found.

Jimmy Ray Rodgers, 25, of Cadet, was sentenced to six months in prison for violating his probation in a 2011 case in which he pleaded guilty to being a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm.

Terms of his probation barred him from leaving Missouri, but his probation officer said he was seen at a Wal-Mart store in late June in Fort Myers, Florida. The Gulf Coast city is about 20 miles from where 46-year-old Teresa Sievers was found dead in her Bonita Springs home.

Rodgers admitted leaving Missouri during Wednesday's five-minute federal court hearing in St. Louis, but he waived his right to a more robust hearing on the allegations. Asked by U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh if he had anything to say, Rodgers replied: "No, not at this time."

Rodgers' court-appointed attorney, Joan Miller, said after the hearing that Rodgers told her "he didn't know the people in Florida." She declined further comment, and Rodgers hasn't entered a plea in the Florida case.

Assistant federal prosecutor John Bird made only a vague reference to the Florida case during the hearing in St. Louis, referring to the "rather significant" case for which Rodgers had been arrested. He declined comment after the hearing.

Wrongfully accused,” says attorney for Sievers murder suspect

By Sam Smink   •   September 3, 2015

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The attorney for one of two Missouri men accused of killing Dr. Teresa Sievers says his client was “wrongfully accused.”

Wayne Wright is currently being held in the Jefferson County jail on no bond. Lee County deputies arrested him last week on second degree murder charges.

Wright is the childhood friend of Teresa Sievers’ husband, Mark Sievers.

Wright’s attorney Daris Almond says he believes in Wright’s innocence, saying “evidence will clearly show Wright did not participate in the crime.”

He added, “the state cannot prove any involvement beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Wright is due in court on September 15 for a bond hearing.

Little insight offered from will of slain Bonita Springs doctor Teresa Sievers

By:  Jessica Lipscomb

Updated: 3 hours ago

While the motive in the killing of Teresa Sievers remains under wraps, a will filed with the Lee County Clerk’s Office provides few details about the doctor’s financial situation.

Sievers’ will, which was drafted in 2009, designates her husband, Mark Sievers, as the personal representative of her estate. In the event that Mark Sievers is also deceased or otherwise unqualified, Teresa Sievers asked that her brother be appointed as her personal representative and also as guardian of the couple’s children.

Laird Lile, a wills, trusts and estates attorney in Naples, agreed to review Sievers’ will for the Naples Daily News. Lile did not prepare the document for the doctor and has no relation to her estate.

Sheriff Scott reveals how Sievers murder suspect was linked to crime

By Sam Smink  •   September 4, 2015

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott revealed for the first time how law enforcement linked Missouri man Wayne Wright to the murder of Bonita Springs Dr. Teresa Sievers.

Wayne Wright and Jimmy Rodgers are both currently sitting behind bars in Missouri, accused of killing Doctor Teresa Sievers.

Rodgers was caught at a Wal-Mart on Six Mile Cypress Parkway in Fort Myers, the night before Sievers’ murder, setting his arrest in motion.

For the first time, we are hearing he wasn’t alone. Sheriff Scott says Wright was with him.

Sheriff Scott says evidence, including surveillance, helped deputies pin them down.

“We know precisely what they purchased and again it’s part of the ongoing investigation,” said Scott.

Husband Charged with Plotting Murder of Prominent Florida Doctor: 'We Got Our Man,' Says Sheriff

By Jeff Truesdell @jhtruesdell

Mark Sievers
Lee County Sheriff's Office

Authorities on Friday arrested a Florida man for allegedly plotting the murder of his wife, a prominent doctor and mother of their two children who was found bludgeoned to death in their Bonita Springs home last June.

"We were after Mark Sievers," Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott told the media at a news conference after the arrest. "We got our man and we're very happy for that."

Mark Sievers, 47, was away from the home at a family reunion when Dr. Teresa Sievers, 46, was killed.

The allegation against Sievers follows the arrest last August of two Missouri men, including Curtis Wright Jr., a childhood friend of Mark Sievers who has pleaded guilty in the case and accepted a 25-year plea deal in exchange for helping prosecutors, CBS News reports.

Prosecutors allege Sievers, who has maintained his innocence despite being publicly identified as a suspect last December, "had direct involvement in the planning and execution" of the crime. Prosecutors allege Wright, 47, and Jimmy Rodgers, 25 – both charged with second-degree murder – were hired to carry out it out.

Sheriff Scott said the trio allegedly put "a great deal of effort and energy into covering the tracks, into throwing us off on their track."

"The decision of Curtis Wayne Wright to accept responsibility and plead guilty to second-degree murder will hopefully begin to answer many questions and bring closure to the family of Teresa Sievers," Wright's attorney, Elizabeth Parker, said in a statement obtained by the Naples Daily News.

The husband of Dr Teresa Sievers, who was bludgeoned to death with a hammer in her Bonita Springs, Florida home in June last year, has been charged in her murder by police.

Mark Sievers has been accused of commissioning two men — his childhood friend Curtis Wayne Wright Jr and Jimmy Rodgers — to kill his wife while he and their two children were visiting family in Connecticut.

Rodgers and Wright were arrested in August last year, and officials released a probable cause affidavit linking Sievers to the pair in December, but an arrest was only made on Friday, the same day that Wright co-operated with police.

Evidence: Teresa's body was found next to the hammer (pictured) in her Florida kitchen. Mark Sievers is accused of paying two men to murder her while he and his daughters were in Connecticut visiting family

An eight-month investigation culminated Friday with Mark Sievers in handcuffs and a red jail jumpsuit, arrested in Lee County on a murder charge in connection with the killing of his wife, Dr. Teresa Sievers.

The arrest comes after Sievers' childhood friend, Curtis "Wayne" Wright Jr., 47, pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge in connection with the killing.

"We were after Mark Sievers. We got our man, and we're very happy about that," Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said on the steps of the Sheriff's Office moments after Sievers was perpwalked in front of local media.

Deputies arrested Sievers, 47, on a second-degree murder charge. Prosecutors will now decide whether to convene a grand jury to seek a first-degree murder indictment. If Sievers is indicted, he would face a mandatory life sentence if convicted and could face the death penalty.

Sievers has long been suspected of orchestrating the June 2015 killing of his wife, which detectives have said was carried out by Wright and Jimmy Ray Rodgers, 25, who was extradited to Lee County this week and faces a murder charge.

Mark Sievers responds to custody petition for daughters

Mark Sievers is against giving custody of his two daughters to his mother-in-law amid allegations that his actions have caused the girls to be subjected to emotional, physical and mental harm.

Mary Ann Groves, the mother of Teresa Sievers, the holistic doctor investigators say was killed in June 2015 by two men hired by her husband Mark, filed a petition March 21 to gain temporary custody of her granddaughters.

The girls — ages 11 and 9 — have been living with Groves in Estero since March 11, but she has not been granted official custody.

Teresa Sievers' mother seeking custody of grandchildren

Mary Ann Groves, the mother of slain Bonita Springs doctor Teresa Sievers, has petitioned for temporary custody of the two children her daughter had with her husband, Mark Sievers.

The petition, filed in the Circuit Court of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, contends that Mark Sievers has "abused, abandoned or neglected" the two girls -- aged 11 and 9 -- by his incarceration in connection with their mother's death.

~Snipped~

Groves indicated she has relocated from Connecticut to Estero to care for her grandchildren, and that they've been in her exclusive care since March 11. They are home-schooled, and her petition suggests enrolling them in a public school at this time would be "traumatic and harmful."

In a response to the petition filed on Friday, Mark Sievers denies the murder/abuse-related accusations and requests the court both deny the petition for temporary custody and schedule a hearing on his behalf.

Mark Sievers keeps lawyer, cannot afford legal fees

April 28, 2016 10:06 PM EDT

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The husband accused of killing his wife, local doctor Teresa Sievers, cannot afford to fully pay lawyers who are representing him.

The Faga Law Group is still representing their client Mark Sievers, who in late March entered a written plea of not guilty for the death of his wife. However, he does not have enough money to pay them for running dispositions and subpoenas, among other tasks for trial, said his lawyer Michael Mummert.

The law group has filed a motion asking the state to pay for the costs, which would mean taxpayers could pick up the bill. The motion declares Mark Sievers indigent. It was previously determined that Mark Sievers could not afford a lawyer but instead of agreeing to a public defender, his mother, Bonnie Sievers, hired Faga Law Group.

I haven't been following this case, just read about it today. As I read about the search for the killer, crystal ball my suspicious mind   kept jabbing me with the thought that the husband was involved. , and he, coldly, without mercy, without compassion, planned this bloody murder. Why? The life insurance money usually motivates a whole lot of spousal killings $$$$$.

I truly feel sorry Sad for the two young daughters who will be deprived of the rest of their innocent childhood, thanks to  daddy dearest

He is a coldblooded killer who doesn't deserve to live, but I hope that he spends the rest of his life behind bars, the vertical ones.

Mark Sievers' friend flipped on him - making deal to save himself

Posted: April 21, 2016

By Jacob Carpenter of the Naples Daily News

The lead investigator in Mark Sievers’ murder case confirmed Thursday that Sievers’ longtime friend has flipped on him, telling investigators that Sievers offered to pay him money from life insurance policies in exchange for killing his wife.

Testifying at a motion to reduce Sievers’ bond – which was denied – Lee County sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Downs said co-defendant Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. has confessed to taking part in the murder-for-hire plot to kill Sievers’ wife, Teresa. Sievers planned to pay Wright using money from $4.43 million worth of life insurance policies taken out over a several-year period, Downs said.

The life insurance money “was the motivation,” Downs said, for Sievers to employ Wright and another man, Jimmy Rodgers, to have his wife killed at the couple’s Bonita Springs home in June. She was found bludgeoned to death while Mark Sievers was in Connecticut with the couple’s two children.

Downs’ testimony came amid Sievers’ unsuccessful request to have his bond on a second-degree murder charge reduced from $4.43 million – equal to the maximum life insurance payouts – to $250,000. In response to questions from his lawyer and Assistant State Attorney Hamid Hunter, Sievers testified that he has few assets and can’t afford the $4.43 million bond, but his family could help him post a $250,000 surety bond.

“I would rely on my family to pool their resources and see what they can come up with,” Sievers said.

Mummert argued that Sievers wouldn’t be able to receive any life insurance money or use his house as an asset until the completion of his criminal case. But Hunter argued Sievers could indirectly receive funds from payouts made to other family members.

Hunter also noted that Sievers has ties to Missouri, where he still owns a condominium, and that the bond is reasonable “in light of the facts of the case.”

Lee Circuit Judge Bruce Kyle agreed with prosecutors, citing the nature of the case as a primary reason for denying the request.

The resemblance between Mark Sievers and Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. is uncanny.
