Frozen vegetable recall expands to over 40 brands (Video)

A national recall of frozen vegetables first issued in April has now expanded to over 358 products under more than 42 different brands.

CRF Frozen Foods expanded the voluntary recall to include all of the frozen organic and traditional fruit and vegetable products manufactured or processed in the company's Pasco, Wash., facility since May 1, 2014, due to the possibility that these products may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

That organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

The affected products have best-by dates or sell-by dates between April 26, 2016, and April 26, 2018. A complete list can be found on the* Food and Drug Administration's website. Some of the brands include ByBee Foods, Columbia River Organics, Northwest Growers Select, Organic by Nature, Parade, Pantry Essentials, Safeway Kitchens, Signature Kitchens, Trader Joe's Organic, VIP, Wellsley Farms and Life Foods.

Potentially contaminated products include organic and nonorganic broccoli, butternut squash, carrots, cauliflower, corn, edamame, green beans, Italian beans, kale, leeks, lima beans, onions, peas, pepper strips, potatoes, potato medley, root medley, spinach, sweet potatoes, various vegetable medleys, blends, and stir fry packages, blueberries, cherries, cranberries, peaches, raspberries and strawberries.

Pharmavite LLC is recalling specific lots of Nature Made® products detailed in the chart below due to possible Salmonella or Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

We are initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution to protect public health.  Pharmavite is working closely with the FDA to implement this recall and we are notifying all retail customers and distributors to remove the product from store shelves immediately.  No other products are impacted by this recall. The recalled products were distributed nationwide to various major retailers.

Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
